Re-Awakening: I Became a Pay To Win Boss Monster-Chapter 209: Potion Shop
Chapter 209: Potion Shop
The city was covered in dozens of coral, and most houses resembled huts. Yet despite all that, the farther he walked toward the center, the more the houses seemed like the ones outside the river.
The architecture resembled a distinct blend of all the continent’s countries combined, and if Rael recalled, that was because this river had once run through the entire continent.
Only after the war against the barbarians did the river shrink and pass through just Aztera and Drivania.
As for the buildings that were destroyed, they sank into the river, and some people who were desperate enough for freedom collected those buildings, set up magical barriers underneath the river, and began living there.
That had been the case for the last couple of centuries, and since it was so remote, most people didn’t even know these underwater cities existed.
Though… I kinda found out by accident. Rael scratched his cheek.
Whenever a player died, their body disintegrated into particles. However, their vision still remained for a few minutes as a sort of death timer.
Therefore, when Rael died over the river while he was on his way to look for the Duke’s daughter, he accidentally sank deep enough to see the lights of this city.
And all that he needed to do from there was simply get the right equipment and go down.
But this time around, he was a bit more sturdy, so Rael simply walked through the streets, earning strange glances from the people around.
While they looked the same as normal humans, the only difference was the fins on their chests that helped them breathe outside the barrier.
Rael ignored most of the people present as he made his way to the center.
Once he finally arrived, he looked for a particular potion shop that went by the initials ‘A.V,’ which, of course, stood for Anath Valentine.
He soon found the potion shop, and after a brief look around, headed inside.
Immediately, the scent of several herbs entered his nose. And behind the reception was a somewhat familiar face.
She had dark violet hair and captivating red eyes. She looked as intense as her father, but it took a while for her to notice him, almost as if she was in deep focus.
But once she did, she put on a serious look and spoke.
“Hello, dear customer. What potions can I get for you today?”
“You got one of those sex potions? I think they’re called aphrodisiacs or something,” Rael asked flatly.
Anath’s brows twitched. “Sir… we only stock health potions, mana potions, utility potions… nothing miscellaneous like that.” fгeewebnovёl.com
“Pity…” Rael sighed as he leaned over the front counter, meeting Anath’s furrowed brows.
“Anyways, do you wanna get out of here? I came here to rescue you.”
“Rescue me from what?” Anath asked, avoiding his gaze as she suddenly stepped back and grabbed a random potion vial.
She began cleaning it, and from her slightly trembling hands, he knew he was on the right track.
“Rescue you from here, I guess,” Rael said. “But I can’t really do that if you’re not willing. Though you should know your father is very worried about you.”
The moment he finished his words, she froze, nearly dropping the empty potion vial to the ground.
She turned to him with widened eyes.
“My father…? I thought he stopped looking for me?”
Rael tilted his head. “Now why would he do that? You’re his daughter, and you were kidnapped. His affection wouldn’t fade for you that quickly.”
“I understand… but they told me he stopped looking for me,” Anath replied, shifting her gaze to the floor.
“Who?” Rael asked with a slight frown. “The organization who kidnapped you?”
She shook her head. “The people who live here. I told them about what happened… and they said my father forgot about me since it’s been so long.”
“Hmm… I guess even if their bodies look human, they have fish brains,” Rael remarked with a sigh as he walked over to the other side of the counter and tilted Anath’s chin up.
“He’s been looking for you for the last nine years, and not a single day went by when he didn’t think about you. I can promise you that much, Anath,” Rael stated.
Yet it seemed like his motivational words had the opposite effect as her cheeks suddenly flushed and she avoided his gaze again.
She brushed his hands off her chin and took a few steps back before clearing her throat.
“V-Very well… but you should know I can’t just leave this place whenever I want,” Anath added, her voice cracking. “I-I never really learned how to swim, and whenever I looked up, I could barely see the sun… I don’t think I’d even make it to the very top.”
“Well, the fish might help,” Rael commented. “They’ve been the ones who sold your potions to the outside world, right?”
She slowly nodded. “Yes… I always make another batch that these people swim up to sell. They use the money to buy some resources for us so we can live more comfortably, if that makes sense.”
“Totally,” Rael replied with a tilt of his head. “But what exactly is your cut in all of this?”
“Hmm…?” Anath fell into thought. “Five percent? I get the mythical sweets called macarons… their crispiness and chewiness, their jam filling…”
Noticing that she was slowly losing herself, Anath coughed and straightened her back before looking at him with a flustered expression.
“A-Anyways… I don’t get much, but I don’t really ask for much. I get free housing, free herbs, free food… free clothes…” Anath trailed off, her expression turning serious. “But that’s all going to change now, isn’t it?”
“On paper? Not really,” Rael replied with a chuckle. “Your father is so rich he can probably build you a house out of those macarons. And as for the essentials? You don’t have to worry either.”
With those words, Rael extended his hand with a smile.
“So? Should we go now—”
“Anath Valentine, where’s the potion batch?” A deep voice rang out from behind him, and once he turned around, he noticed a burly-looking man with scars riddling the fins on the side of his chest.
And once their eyes met, the man didn’t hesitate to take out a sword and aim it directly at Rael.
“Who are you?”
