Re: Elf Prince—A Degenerate's Second Chance-Chapter 47. Lost From Light
47. Lost From Light
The last rays of light vanished and world of blackness swallowed him up, there was a rush of hot air inside the beast, the space within its throat large enough to hold more than half a dozen men in it. As he fell deeper his nose got clogged with the repugnant smell of its insides, his body recieved deep cuts from the rows of sharp teety as he fell, the only thing keeping him alive was his thick wool clothing and also his bag that seemed to take a lot considerable level of impact as he went down it’s gullet.
He grunted and screamed as he felt his skin cut open, his arms and legs did not suffer serious injuries but his face recieved deep cuts on the cheeks and almost losing both his eyes had he not covered them up as he fell. The pain of each cut burned into his memory causing his brain to blur out repeatedly.
After a short while he eventually reached the bottom as crashed into a pool of acidic water that burned into his skin. Hot smoke sizzled and hissed off the impact as he sank deeper into into the liquid, he let out an exasperated gasp as the hot acid filled his lungs and burned through his clothes. He closed his eyes and prayed for death, he wasn’t just waiting for it— no he was begging for it.
As he sank even deeper and found it hard to breath he panicked and started to claw his way to the top. Wanting death and facing death were two very different things, Eryndor could not just ask for a second death. He swam to the top and gasped for air, the rush of hit steamy air filling his body caused his lungs to burn from the inside out.
After a few moments he finally took in his surroundings, looking up he could see the wide funnel of red running for several meters, thick blobs of blue stuck around the insides of the ice serpent. He was swimming in a pool of thick blue fluid, Eryndor guessed that the beast would shred the body of its prey with its rows of sharp teeth then it would proceed to devour them by melting off their skin and organs in its acidic insides but he did not care much about the details because he was already in it.
But for some reason the vat of acidic blue water did not burn his skin, at least not actively. He could feel the heat on them but it seemed his flame body tempering art seemed to keep him free from the heat at least it did for the moment. He could not begin to imagine how truly painful it would have been had he taken the full force of the heat head on. The fact that his clothes were fine meant that the acid was only a threat to human skin.
Eryndor cursed at himself and hissed. "Damn my cursed attribute, always ruins everything."
Just as he was beginning to fall into deeper despair the voice from his left eye called out:
["You poor boy, losing all hope are we?"]
A dark chuckle followed.
Eryndor gritted his teeth and screamed at the top of his lungs which caused him to feel more pain inside. "Why don’t you shut the fuck up if you’re going to mock me you shitty master."
The only sound that followed was the bubbling of the acidic water, moments later the harsh words of his master sounded.
["Losing our grit young brat? Where is all the spunk you have been showing for the past few months?
I don’t see the fire I have come to admire about you. It pains me"]
Eryndor could barely suppress his rage as he barked out causing him to go into a fit of heavy coughs. "Shut the fuck up!" Afterwards he went into a moment of quiet rage and pulled at his hair like a madman.
Expecting his master to keep his silence but his master continued to pester him:
["You know I always love this moment, to watch the hero fall of his perch
To watch them realise they are nothing more than insects scurrying in the dust. With your pitiful flaw and cursed attribute did you really think you could ascend to the pinnacle of power?"]
Eryndor said nothing, he paused and looked around him for a way out. There was nothing but the walls of the ice worms inner belly. He then thought of an idea. He ignited a flicker of flame expecting it to catch fire in the stomach acid vapour but nothing happened. What he recieved in return was more jests from his master. For some reason he remembered that always worked in the movies he had watched in his previous life. To think even movies were lies
["Lost from the light and alone, why don’t you just give up and die?"]
Eryndor remembered one of his uncle’s teachings. "The real world is full of unknowns you can only best prepare for it and adapt to what comes with it." He gritted his teeth once more and reached for the bow still on his back, it had suffered a few scratches but the bowstring was still intact. He reached for any arrow he could find around him and pulled on the bowstring and aimed up with the aid of the golden eye, he traced the lines and veins and aimed for where it’s heart would be. He could see the mass of energy accumulating there and running across it’s body, without wasting a second he let the string loose and the arrows cutting through the air.
His eyes steeled with resolve as the arrow hit it’s mark sending small streams of blue ooze flowing down. The mark was not deep enough to kill it but it was enough to make the beast trash it’s head wildly. The insides of the the beast stirred as it moved violently, Eryndor rode on the wave of acidic water and approached the place where he had impale it’s heart and struck his foot into it with a loud battle cry.
"Give up and die!? I already did that in my first life, I’m done with that shit!" He screamed out with a feral to whoever would hear in the world. Veins popped on the sides of his head as he made his declaration and his eyes were red with maddening fury.
The arrows tip dug in even deeper and struck the veins within the still beating heart was. The beast thrust around like a raging bull and trashed it’s head on the side of a tree repeatedly before coiling it’s neck and giving it’s last last pained cry. Moments later it started to freeze just like the ice serpent earlier had done at the time of its death.
The legacy materialised before him in it’s ancient text:
[You have slain a normal beast "Ice Serpent"
You have recieved a soul essence
You have recieved an "item"]
Eryndor’s eyes beamed with shock. "An item, what’s that?"
