Re: Elf Prince—A Degenerate's Second Chance-Chapter 82. Just A Bit Of Luck And Hardwork
82. Just A Bit Of Luck And Hardwork
The crackling of flame, the canopies of red, the smell of blood and burnt flesh mixed with the tick smell of smoke. The screams of the beast people was slowly reducing as the tide of the battle had changed everything so slightly. The mercenaries were not losing but they were losing more of the upper hand they had.
The leader of the mercenary group growled in an inhumane manner and said. "Fine the village chief and village will be mine, is that too hard for me to ask for?" He looked down at his bodyguards causing them to tremble in fear.
A moment later a mercenary stumbled to them and cried to his master. "There’s a problem?"
The towering leader of the group of mercenaries looked down at him frowned. "Problem, I hate that word. It’s always never right. Do you know what is even more amusing here, instead of solving my problem you brought it back me. What an insult."
"No! It was just that we were overpowered in the slave caravans." He cried.
Their brute leader sighed and said. "Surely a few dozen of these damn beasts are retaliating." The words his subordinate would say next would be something very unpleasant to and hard to stomach.
"No sir, it was just one kid."
Their leader played the words over in his head a multiple times as he thought. "He did say one kid? Are you telling a kid beat my mercenaries. Is he alright or in his sound mind." The tyrannical leader growled. He turned and started to walk in the direction of the carriages, this was supposed to be an easy task and now somehow thing got complicated.
He came to an open space where he could see the area where the carriages were parked and to his surprise their captives had been freed. In all the chaos he could see one figure fighting back his men with ease, disabling them and restciting their movements. The leader of the mercenary group could tell that whoever this person was he was not a beast person.
"Interference." He growled as he stared to march towards the carriages.
Meanwhile Eryndor was just knocking out the last of the mercenaries in the area, the beast girl helped to escort the people from the carriages. None of them took a moment to stop and thank him but he did not put his mind on that. Just then he felt a massive energy spike from ahead causing his skin to crawl, he looked forward to seeing billows of thick smoke covering the area and the flashes of red light from the fire.
The only sound he could hear was a loud and heavy sound like a sledgehammer had been dropped on the ground repeatedly, it seemed similar to a footstep but was slow and coming in his direction.
Eryndor clutched tight to his sword and said. "What the hell is that?"
The beast girl finished sending off her people that had been taken captive and stood behind the elf boy, she opened her mouth to speak but words failed to come out. What was she supposed to say? Thank him or ask him to leave? It was a complex situation she was in and what made it much harder was the fact that he did not argue with her in anyway and simply complied with whatever she said like a slave.
She would have been in an even worse shape had the human healer from earlier not come to her rescue, she had no reason why these two chose to do this but gratitude was far from what she was feeling. She clutched tight to her wound that was reopening and bit back the rising pain.
The sound of loud thumping drew her attention to the billow of smoke ahead, she could see the shadows of a towering figure through the light of the flames all around them. A second later she was assaulted by a massive energy spike, "What’s this horrendous mana, is that thing even living?"
Mana had a certain energy that could to said to be life force, brimming and full of energy. What they both sensed was something much more different, it was dark and hollow like a chasm sucking something from them rather than filling them with energy.
Eryndor had never felt such an aura even from his uncle, his legs threatened to tremble beneath him but he commanded it not to. "Pull it together, it’s just another enemy. The moment you tremble, you’re as good as dead. Sharpen your instincts, more and more, you’re alone in this fight. It’s just you and no one else."
The beast girl who had been standing behind him and was shaking herself heard the words he was saying and cast him a questioning side glance. Her body steeled itself and thought to herself. "Why is he even helping us--?" In his eyes she could see a determination as well as fear, he must have known that whatever was before them was stronger than him but why did he stay. He had no obligation to fight that thing whatever it but he still chose to, she made up her mind to ask him— that is if they perhaps survived this dreaded ordeal.
The thumping sound stopped and they could see a huge shadow looking down at them from within the smokes of the rising fire. A moment later a voice spoke and it was deep and dark. "You, you have no reason to interfere in this matter. The beast folk are not tied to outsiders so I am intrigued on what your stake here is."
Eryndor bit his lower lip with force as he acknowledged that he might have bitten off more than he could chew. This was a foe that surpassed his expectations, despite training on the mountains for so long he knew his limitations, he was no genius or exception. Catching up to his peers after being defected for so long might have been considered genius to some but to him it was all luck and hardwork. So maybe this time too he would scale through it with just a bit of luck and hardwork.
