Chapter 85: 85. Power Surge

85. Power Surge

High in the cascading nets of trees the flames continued to roar and surge. The houses made of wood and leaves that was nestled on the many branches there were all burnt up and reduced to ashes. Asides from the crackling of wood under the rising flames there was silence.

In all the chaos there was a low whistling tone that carried an ominous aura, this sound came from the only lone structure that still stood in the trees.

It’s was unlike the other structures that was made of wood, it’s was a huge steel cage in the shape of a semicircle. It’s had hundreds of steel gates with small gaps between them, the base of it was also made of metal but was covered with a bed of leaves.

At a corner of it was a bundle of wood that acted as a bed and on it lay a lone figure. The figure was a young male with long pointy ears poking out under red hair, his eyes was closed and he lay there unable to escape his predicament. He continued to whistle his strange tune and a moment later he grinned as the words escaped his lips. "I see it now."

Merylin climbed up to her feet and clutched tight to her injuries which was hard to do when all of her was hurting and her clothes were damp and sticky in her own fluid. She held her mouth and coughed up blood, she withdrew her hand and looked at the red liquid with trembling eyes.

It only took one hit for her body to lose all power, had the elf boy not attacked the ogre she would have been in an even worse condition. Merylin knew a fair amount about ogres, they were huge dumb creatures similar to trolls only that trolls had a more complex sense of intelligence. Trolls hunted in the wild and did not have any sense of intelligence and most especially not to the extent of leading a mercenary group in a well planned attack. She remembered the ogre saying that he had been chosen for a higher purpose, did that mean that someone gave him this level of intelligence.

This sounded preposterous to her, perhaps it was possible to make an ogre more intelligent to the extent it could be capable of such a feat. But it was impossible for an ogre to be able to wield magic if this extent. Though it seems to use it as a body enhanced it still surpassed the level that an ogre should be able to exhibit.

"Where is that damned thing?" She looked around, her eyes darting with great speed. She sighted the ogre walking in the direction of a young boy with white hair laying in the ground and hesitated. "He was taken out too? He’s going to die."

She felt the urge to help him since she was indebted to him. As she took the first step forward her legs gave out and she fell on her knees, this caused her rips to shatter even more and pierced into some of her orange causing her to bleed internally. Merylin’s mouth opened up as a loud scream escaped from it, it made the bones of whoever heard it to shudder.

It was at this moment that her screams reached Eryndor who lay defneseless on the floor. He gritted his teeth and hissed out in rage. He had promised to save her people and look at the state he was in,"Master, please give me your power. I want to win."

There was a strange silence his master was often fond of before he spoke.

["I might be a bit selfish here but I want to watch you win"]

It had always amazed his master on how many strange situations his disciple always found a way to get into and he was eager to see him conquer these problems with his own strength. He would usually not interfere but he could sense a strange aura emanating from the troll and it was not something normal. It had a more primal essence something he felt was familiar.

["Just this once I will help you conquer your enemy, my little phoenix— win!]

Eryndor’s body exploded in a radiance of light as his body burst into flame. His eyes turned red and all of his joints, all of his pain turned to fire. He had become one with fire. The ground beneath him shattered for their and started to reach out to the approaching ogre who stopped and looked at the massive cocoon of fire in awe.

"What!" Merylin gasped as she laid there on the floor looking at the bright radiance. She could feel her body burning despite her being far from the fire. "Is this mana—"

The entire of the village and the remaining mercenaries all ceased their actions and ran away from the strange energy that threatened to burn their skin off.

The elder of the beast tribe dropped his jaw in shock and said. "—Primal mana? It can’t be?"

In that moment on the trees within the cage, the young red haired elf smiled even deeper and mumbled to himself. "A little phoenix has been born from dragon mana, the world will tremble in chaos."

Karlok trembled for a moment before screaming. "You think your power is remarkable? Face the power bestowed unto my by my lady, the queen of curses." With that he sends all of his aura rushing forward.

"Haa~" , Eryndor sighed as he Roseto his feet his body enveloped in an orange radiance, his hair head dyed a deep orange and his eyes now incandescent with red shade that betrayed their once ivory glimmer. "Trash talking trash that’s new." His voice had now been transmogrified, and was now grotesque and now had two sounds. One was his and the other was that of his master. It was clear that Eryndor had become an entirely new being at the moment. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

Karloks skin started to pulse with his muscles wriggling like moving snakes. His eyes started to glow like white ivory and his body pulsing with electricity. "That’s a bit of a bold say coming from someone who had to get a power boost to even stand before me."

Eryndor hissed and said. "Who cares how I beat you, as long as I’m the one who gets to do this."

"Then let’s quiet this idle chatter and break some skull." Karock boomed.

Eryndor said with a straight face. "My point exactly."
