RE: Perverted Sugar Daddy System-Chapter 332: Bait
Chapter 332: Bait
Unfortunately, unlike those monsters I picked up on while in Detroit, individuals who could stretch their senses past the landmarks of a city, my best activated Echo was somewhere between 3–4 km.
I couldn’t keep track of what was happening throughout the whole city. The broadcasted video of the police chase was my most immediate source of information on the three women.
Driving my Maserati as fast as possible toward the eastern side of the city, I entered an area I had never been to before.
Los Angeles’ Far East Side was a region that touched on both the main hub of LA and its outskirts.
It had once been a booming neighbourhood, with investors erecting tall residential buildings, but sometime during the city’s growth, it had somehow been forgotten, ignored by both investors and the government.
Some people blamed this unfortunate occurrence on the rapid rise of crime in the area, while others pointed to the steep competition from other regions that offered a more exclusive appeal.
The basics of Los Angeles’ deep East Side were all I needed to know. The truth, and any other hassle, did not concern me.
Parking at the side of a highway, close enough to my target, but far enough that no one would dare make a connection, I activated Echo and inspected a small Catholic church.
The church was located about 3.2 km from my position, situated in a compound with a very low wooden fence, filled with low-cut grass.
At the moment, aside from a nun sitting on a bench outside, the church was devoid of any other life. After about three minutes, I picked up my phone and dialled Nadia.
"Where are you guys now?"
"We just passed Langsten turn. We’re about to reach the intersection.
Should we continue with the plan?"
"Yes. Drive as fast as you can and crash straight into the building through its front entrance.
Because of the hostages you’re carrying, the police will hesitate for a while. That will be your escape window.
Make sure not to reveal any of your identities during this period—especially Valera’s."
"Yes sir."
Though we kept the call going, for several minutes no words were exchanged between Nadia and me.
Several sounds came through the device, crashes, even curses, but I remained unfazed, only reacting when Nadia spoke again.
"Sir, we’ve arrived at the spot, but we have a problem."
"Which is?"
"It’s sealed tight. The metal’s too thick. Martha can’t....."
Bam!!
Bam!!
"I’m guessing Martha is breaking it?"
"Yeah... she’s smashing it in with her foot."
A few more heavy sounds rang out through the phone, and then there was the unmistakable noise of something exploding.
"It’s open, sir."
"Go in. Just follow her. Don’t say a word."
At the start of the whole chase, though Martha had managed to make it to the outskirts of the city, she’d unfortunately been a tad too late—as the existing highways had already been blocked off by police barricades.
While the protective mother had been able to avoid getting boxed in by the police, her knowledge of every road in LA was quite shocking, considering the closest she had ever been to a car was my BMW. She had now been locked in a chase that was bound to end in victory for the police.
Killing off hospital personnel and then kidnapping children, Martha’s actions had enraged every enforcement agency in the state. Even those off-duty were up and volunteering, civilians not being left out.
While the hostages in the vehicle protected Martha and Nadia from any of the police’s harsher tactics, they did nothing for their fuel tank.
The plan from the city now was to either safely box in Martha or wait for the car to run out of fuel.
I doubted it was the latter option, because even the police should have considered the possibility that Martha had started with a full tank.
The two women were doomed the moment they failed to leave the city, they were bound to be caught.
And looking at things more critically, I could see this actually being part of Martha’s plan.
Without a doubt, I knew the reason for Martha’s brutal actions had to do with the secret Valera had shared with me weeks ago.
Given Martha’s decisions regarding Valera, it was no surprise that the mother would know how different her daughter was from the rest of the world. And considering I had been told Valera had been hit by a truck, yet had gotten no mention of her being in critical condition over the phone from Nadia or Martha, several conclusions could be made. And one thing about all these conclusions—they were abnormal.
Though I hadn’t asked for the details, with everything that had happened so far, I could already draw up the story I hadn’t been told.
Valera had been involved in an accident earlier in the morning, but Martha found out about it in the afternoon.
No official release had been made regarding the list of people killed in the hospital, but I strongly believed many of its higher-ups were now dead.
As a woman I strongly believed to be on the run with her daughter from forces as resourceful as the government or perhaps even those within it, it came as no surprise that Martha had readily massacred people who might have studied and known the uniqueness of her daughter.
Lest I forget to mention, my PA, Nadia, was well on the list of people to be killed.
Had I not intervened, I could see Martha killing herself and Nadia, burning their bodies in a fire that would leave them untraceable.
After all, the main goal here was to save Valera.
To the eyes of those who would come upon her and the other children, she would just be another victim.
Whether Martha would have gone for this ending was very shaky to me though, because as things progressed, I felt that for the level of brutality she had shown, not even Nadia’s relationship with me should have kept her alive.
I could and have always been able to feel the obsessive protection Martha had for her daughter.
As minutes passed after my last words to Nadia, I was more and more convinced that my innocent and ignorant PA was bait.
