Re: Timeless Apocalypse-Chapter 120: Gamble
Some time ago, as he went through his plethora of rewards while at Ayah’s house, Uriel had gotten two strange rewards alongside his Abode Mark.
——
[Item: Encyclopaedia System Modifier
>Grade: Diamond
•Details: A tool that fuses into the user’s system, evolving it and allowing one to garner greater information from the world, as well as possess a System-borne inspection skill, limited in various ways.]
...
[Item: Nourishing Swirl Modifier
>Grade: Diamond
•Details: A tool that fuses into the user’s digestive system, evolving it and allowing them to consume any and all materials for sustenance, up to Diamond Grade contents.
•It allows the user to survive off of any material they can physically consume, though the nutrients provided fluctuate and may be inefficient.]
——
Encyclopaedia System and Nourishing Swirl modifiers.
Back then, when he’d assimilated the two modifiers, nothing special had happened and in fact, he’d found them rather underwhelming.
As a mage, why would he be impressed by an...inspection skill? He quite literally had an entire mage ring dedicated to such matters.
And if not, with his skills in arcane formations, spontaneously forming one using the sentry would be as easy as breathing.
Worse still, with his abode mark, the nourishing swirl became entirely irrelevant since at all times, he carried tons upon tons of food.
What did he need either of them for?
But his hell of memories had recontextualised a lot.
In all evidence, during his moment of enlightenment while facing the Emperor, he’d comprehended the core of resonance to be Change as a whole.
And from that, he’d immediately found that timeless resonance was the ability to make the impossible possible.
That was what his Twilight Sky Resonance Talent did, atop the strange changes it caused to his elements and natal aether.
So, if that was the case, back then, when he’d tested his talent on the rock he’d conjured...how had he extracted all its information?
In hindsight, he knew he’d done so by switching the position of the rock’s information using resonance, but back then, he hadn’t known that to be possible because his understanding of resonance had still been surface level.
So, how?
The Encyclopaedia. That was how he’d done it.
It had fused into him and his weave, guiding his every movement and naturally steering his hand to comprehend resonance methods linked to inspection.
Knowing this, while building his Mage Tool, Uriel made a gamble.
He already wanted his Mage Tool to be analytical in nature due to the future mage circle project he’d start, but he didn’t know just how specialised he wanted it to be.
He could’ve had one inspection enchantment with all others being life-saving measures meant for the harsh times to come.
But he hadn’t, all in hopes that his Mage Tool would somehow resonate with the modifier fused into him and evolve a step further.
It was incredibly risky and was more of a shot in the dark than a gamble, but at this point, foolish decisions defined him.
And in the end, it worked, so what did it matter?
WHOOOOSH!
The cave, dark and faintly lit by an eerie crimson glow, suddenly burst with light coming from Uriel.
The dark tunnels, once filled with opaque dark smoke, found their mystery snatched away, their gigantic winding paths revealed.
Each tunnel was strange, with incredibly smooth circular walls of silver, covered in glowing runes of amethyst. The tunnels were so strange they seemed more like world-sized surgical tubes than actual paths of travel.
The stark change from rough stone and igneous rock to sudden smooth and silvery walls of engineered runic work was shocking.
...
Uriel’s body shook and from his glabella, sharp angular lines of white and blue tore free, snaking across his skin then sinking deep into his flesh and across bone alike.
The lines continued, bypassing the physical and entering the spiritual, etched across his Heart Realm and Mind Palace, and across his soul and mind.
The lines pulsed, a sense of oneness suddenly consuming Uriel and in the next instant they faded from sight, his body returning to normal, having fully bound the Tool.
The radiance coming from him died down, and the light drowning the cave faded. He found himself back in the eerie and dark crimson landscape of the cave.
But by now, he was used to it.
"Mm. That felt good for some reason," Uriel muttered as he stood to his feet and walked back over to his mini camp.
He lit his fire, gaining a source of light, and sat on his stool.
’Status.’

~Crypt Note(II): Truth often remains the most lethal of poisons. The sun, a blinding core in the skies, was said to once be the shield to the palace in the depths of the heavens, one so grand it drove any mortal mad.
~The Radiance of the Sun blinded mortals, yet the divinity of the palace drove them mad. A lesser evil, in place of eternal agony.

Uriel nodded to himself.
’Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Diamond and now Chrome, and then Jade. Seven grades,’ he noted.
Though now he finally knew what lay beyond the Diamond Grade, for some reason, when he thought back to his access grade, he instinctively felt like even the Jade grade wouldn’t be an accurate gauge.
He was almost convinced of it.
