Rebirth as The Vampire Lord's Wife-Chapter 49: Use Protection!
Iris didnβt reply to him right away. Her mind was busy remembering something. ππβ―π¦ππ¦π£πππππ.πβ΄π
βHuh!?β Iris was puzzled by Justinβs offer. βDidnβt Xavier say thereβs no food in his house? Why did Justin say otherwise?β
It wasnβt just Iris who was confused, but Justin as well.
βDid Lord Xavier tell her already about our identity? Really!? That fast?β Justin narrowed his eyes, looking at Iris in awe. How could this girl drastically change their Lord?
Just before Justin wanted to explain to Iris, Xavierβs voice echoed in his mind.
βWhy are you offering her something we donβt possess?β Xavierβs tone conveyed his displeasure quite clearly.
Justin scratched his head. βMilord, I just wanted to help you impress her. I planned to ask the chef from your hotel to prepare it. I believe this innocent Iris will believe it if we prepare the food, especially for her. How is my idea milord?β
βJust be honest with her!β Xavier took another long sigh.
Justin, "..."
Didnβt want to put Xavier in a lousy mood he immediately responded, βY-Yes, Milord, consider it done.β Then he looked at Iris. "Well, we donβt have any food in stock now because we usually order from restaurants." Justin grinned when he saw Iris shake her head.
"No need, Justin. Xavier and I stopped by the restaurant; I was still full. Just give me some hot coffee if you have," Iris said.
As she saw Justin leave her alone, she started to wonder, βDo they have a chef or housekeeper to take care of this big house?β
Iris set her curiosity aside and swiftly retrieved her cell phone, dialing a number with a hint of urgency. She needed to check on her grandmotherβs safety. As the phone rang on the other end, each echoing ring seemed to stretch time itself, but her grandma didnβt pick up.
βWhatβs going on? Why isnβt she answering?β Iris muttered to herself, her eyes fixed on the cell phone in her hand.
Growing more worried by the moment, she stood up from her seat, her nervousness becoming clear. She re-dialed her grandmotherβs number, fingers tapping impatiently on the phone. Her pacing in the room reflected the anxiety now consuming her thoughts.
βPlease answer, Grandma!β
Just as she was about to consider reaching out to Maya or Kevin, Gray Cafe staff, a familiar voice finally came through the line.
"Grandmother," Instantly, Iris felt relieved. "Why did it take you so long to answer my call? Are you okay there?" she asked, her voice filled with panic, leaving Cassandra confused on the other end.
"Oh, dear, why do you sound so panicked?" Cassandra laughs, attempting to reassure her. "My dear Iris, your grandma is fine here. Why do you sound so frightened?"
Iris secretly let out a long sigh. "I was just worried because it took you too long to answer my phone call. Howβs everything over there?"
"Still busy, we still have a few customers enjoying their coffee. Oh, Iris, a friend from your university is here. She said her name is Ruby Winters, your best friend... You know her, right?" Cassandra asked.
Irisβ heart tightened at that. βWhy is that bitch Ruby talking to Grandma and lying? Best friend? How sly!β
"Of course, I know her. Sheβs my classmate, but weβre not really close. Grandma, is she still there?" Iris asked, attempting to sound composed despite her growing panic.
"No, sheβs already left the cafe with her friends," Cassandra replied. She paused for a few seconds before continuing, "Ah, Niles also came. Earlier, I saw him chatting with Ruby..."
βNiles? So Xavier really sent someone to check on Grandma!β Iris was relieved to hear that.
"Send my hello to him, Grandma."
"I will. He still enjoys his coffee in the corner. Are you still with Xavier?" Cassandra asked curiously. She had heard from Niles that after class, Iris went to lunch with Xavier and would probably stop by their house. This excited her because her granddaughter and Xavierβs relationship seemed to be getting serious now. Xavier keeps his promise and does not play with Irisβs heart.
"Yes, I might be home late, Grandma, because heβs helping me master my driving skills," she casually said, using it as an excuse. She was afraid her grandma might scold her for going to Xavierβs house again.
"Grandma is so happy for you, my dear Iris. Mmm... No need to rush to come home..." Cassandraβs face broke into a mischievous smile before she continued, "Just enjoy your time with him butβ"
"But what, Grandma?" Iris couldnβt help but be curious about what her grandmother would say.
"Donβt forget to use Protection... Youβre too young to give birth," Cassandra warned in a playful yet panicked tone. She didnβt want to have another baby to take care of if Iris suddenly became pregnant.
Cough! Cough!
Iris started coughing uncontrollably, choking at her grandmotherβs words.
βHow could she even think that far?β Iris wondered, feeling utterly embarrassed.
"Why? Youβre coughing!? Ohβ" Cassandra panicked on the other end. "Iris Gray, donβt tell me you guys already did it. Without Protection!?" Her voice sounded both curious and worried.
Cough! Cough! Cough!
Another series of coughs echoed from the other end of the line. Iris felt even more embarrassed, her face growing hotter by the second.
"Grandma, no. Weβre not! Oh, God... please donβt think like that," She paused to collect herself. "Ugh, Grandma, I have to go now. Byeβ"
Beep!
After speaking with her grandma, Iris still stood by the glass wall, her gaze fixated on the frozen lake. Her hand instinctively reached her chest as if trying to soothe the embarrassment that still lingered there. Her grandmotherβs words had undoubtedly stirred something inside her, something unexpected.
βWhy do I feel this way? These emotions are supposed to belong to young Iris, not me! But, why do I find myself starting to like him too? Gosh, this is annoying!β
Iris couldnβt help but question herself, her confusion increasing as she grappled with this unfamiliar sensation. Taking a few deep breaths, she eventually returned to her seat, opting to distract herself by scrolling through her cell phone.
