Chapter 30: Hunters association

Dink!

Evans placed the glass of wine on the table, his legs crossed with his arms resting beside him.

Adonis was seated at the side, calm and collected, while reading the mood at the same time.

"This is my personal space, by the way. None of my guild members are around, so we are free to speak as much as we want," Evans began.

"Sure."

"I’m well aware you have something you need from me. I do too. That is why I’ll let you start, see where it leads us," Evans said with a smile.

Smiling back, Adonis responded, "Oh no, you should do the honors. I’m a guest. Please, begin from your end."

"Hmm..." Evans sighed. "Very well then. My question goes as follows: what is your class? According to the information I got from Yuri, she said you summoned beasts and also healed, far surpassing hers. Not only that, but she also claimed you could perform outstanding magic. All these contradict your class."

Adonis was quiet for a while.

"That is going to be hard to answer..."

Evans squinted his brow a bit.

"I began as a healer class. During my reawakening, I unlocked my Necromancer class. While I don’t fully understand it, I don’t think I’m bound by the same laws everyone else follows," Adonis uttered.

As he sat there, he thought to himself, ’I shouldn’t be saying this much. But if it’s Evans, it should be fine.’

He knew what type of person Evans was. He was not the type to exploit others. This was the only reason Adonis went to him first despite there being other Hunters in the city.

"Are you saying you have multiple classes?" Evans asked.

"Something like that. Two might be my limit, but seeing as I can fight, it’s safe to say I might already possess the fighter class too."

Evans glared. "Such abilities are unheard of. You either have a class or a greater class. Hunters, for example—Hunters who are fighters far outclass adventurers who have the same class. Having multiple classes is another issue on its own."

"Hunters have unusual powers that often supersede the norms. Isn’t there a chance that I might be one?" Adonis asked.

"That is a possibility. So, is that why you came here? To use me as access to the Hunter’s Association?"

Adonis replied, "Are you angry at that? Many people try to see if they’re Hunters, and they mostly aren’t. If I should end up being a Hunter, the Hunter’s Association would try to keep me close to them. I don’t want that."

"You want to have your own guild? Even if you were a Hunter and you did get your own guild, you’d still be under the Hunter’s Association."

"I am fully aware of that." Adonis had a serious look on his face. "Still, if you were the one to bring me in, I know they would have restraints before trying to use me for their own profits."

Evans suddenly sighed, scratching the back of his head. "It’s been so long since we’ve had another Hunter in the kingdom. This is honestly surprising, considering Hunters are quite rare."

Adonis was quiet.

"Very well, I’ll handle your evaluation. I guess it wouldn’t hurt to try."

Hearing Evans’s response to his request, Adonis smiled, clenching his fist.

"Great, I knew I could count on you."

"Not like I have a choice. We need as many Hunters as we can get." Evans stood up and stretched his hand forward for a shake. "Hopefully, your rank is just as impressive as your abilities."

Adonis shook his hand.

"I hope so too."

They stared at each other for a while.

"Why don’t you join my guild instead? I could make you the second-in-command, and we could be the only guild in all of Evergreen with two Hunters," Evans suggested.

"Eugh... I... I don’t think I’d want that, sorry. I already have my own party," Adonis replied.

"Oh? May I ask for the name?"

"Sure," Adonis uttered. "Dancing Corpse."

---

The next day.

Somewhere in Evergreen was the second building designated for the Hunter’s Association.

It was three times as big as every building in the city and took on the majestic design of a king’s castle.

Unlike the public guild association building, which would usually be crawling with people trying to get in for one thing or another, the Hunter’s Association was more civilized, having only guards standing at the entrance and all around the corners.

The only part of the building that was swarming with people was the entrance, and even then, people stood in a straight line.

Meanwhile, inside the building, Adonis and his friends had found their way in, following behind Evans.

It was easier to get in with him since he was a famous Hunter.

The inside of the building was quite majestic, with floating orbs that acted as security cams. Tables and chairs were set at the side, with a red rug that trailed all the way from the entrance of the building toward the main table where the attendants were present.

At the two opposite sides, two stairs were present, leading to other places in the building.

One of which was the office of the Director of Hunters, Richard Townsend.

The office was just as impressive, having a long table with a single wooden chair just for the director himself.

And at both corners of the office stood royal knights for security.

"Evans, it’s been a while since you’ve visited us. Are you in need of new members? I heard you lost a few in your last raid," Richard spoke, his red hair packed behind him.

Evans, seated on the chair with Adonis, replied, "No, that’s not why I’m here. See, there’s someone I’d like you to test for chances of being a Hunter."

Richard looked at Adonis.

"Is that to say you think we may have another Hunter in this kingdom?"

To which Evans replied,

"Call it a hunch. But I think my friend here might be the next Hunter we need in this kingdom."
