Rebirth: CEO's Sweetheart Reaches the Life Pinnacle!-Chapter 171 - 168: Whoever Ties the Bell Should Untie It
Chapter 171: Chapter 168: Whoever Ties the Bell Should Untie It
After dinner, Li Si and Leng Mochen left home, leaving Long Wu alone to chat with the elderly lady.
"Where are we going?" Li Si asked as the car drove farther and farther away from the city center.
Leng Mochen focused intently on driving but spared a moment to glance at her and chuckle, "I’m selling you off!"
"Pfft, selling me won’t fetch much! Selling you might be more worth it!" She looked out at the scenery. It was just past 3 p.m., the streets crowded with pedestrians, and traffic jammed everywhere—likely caused by people shopping for New Year’s goods.
The streets of Beijing were adorned with red lanterns, festively decorated to exude the warmth of the New Year. The weather was splendid, with clear skies and sunlight streaming through the windshield, warming them.
"No way! You’re priceless! Selling by the pound would make you worth even more," he teased shamelessly, loving the sight of her puffing up in anger.
Li Si angrily glared at his profile, annoyed that even his side profile looked so attractive. "If you keep this up, I’m not talking to you!"
"Alright, alright, I’ll stop teasing! Don’t worry; you’ll know soon enough once we get there!" Leng Mochen toned down his teasing and focused on driving.
"Good, at least you’re sensible!" Li Si waited patiently, thinking she’d find out soon anyway.
Thinking of Long Wu, she smiled and remarked, "Mochen, Brother Long might finally have a chance now, right? Auntie supports him! Maybe they’ll reconcile and return to what they once had!"
"Perhaps not," Leng Mochen said, recognizing the deep emotional ties Su Meng held inside—it wasn’t going to be resolved easily.
"What’s with you today? Everything I say, you brush it off!" she protested. He was being unusually prickly today, constantly out of sync with her.
Leng Mochen dotingly ruffled her hair. "Little one, instead of fretting over other people’s matters, why not focus on what we need for our engagement, hmm?"
Li Si blushed and lowered her head. "How would I know!" She’d never been engaged before, and the idea both thrilled and unnerved her.
"No worries, I’ll help you figure it out!" As they continued their playful back-and-forth banter, the car came to a stop in a vast, open, and barren area.
"Where is this place?" she asked after stepping out of the car, gazing curiously at her surroundings. It was eerily quiet, with excellent air quality. Breathing the fresh air was refreshing and invigorating.
Taking her hand, he looked deeply into her eyes and declared, "This is the land I’ve purchased. One day, our business empire will rise right here!"
"Oh my goodness!" she exclaimed, scanning the area all around her. "Why choose this place?"
"After the New Year, I plan to venture into real estate. This is merely the beginning!" What he didn’t share was that, in several years, this land would become incredibly valuable.
He had previously studied Beijing’s successful real estate tycoons, one of whom had once owned this very piece of land. From that early accumulation of wealth, the tycoon had snowballed their business into greatness.
"Real estate? You’re amazing!" She admired him with starry-eyed wonder. As someone reborn into this time, she had foreknowledge of how explosive the real estate market would someday become—but for him to foresee it so precisely was astonishing!
He smiled smugly, clearly reading her mind but refraining from making any comment.
"It won’t just be Mo Si Real Estate Company. We’ll also establish Mo Si Decoration Company and Mo Si International Home Plaza—a complete industry chain! But don’t worship me too much!"
"Pfft, you’re like a peacock showing off! Who’s worshiping you? Besides, why didn’t you tell me about this earlier?" Li Si staunchly denied her little inner thoughts. This man’s brain worked on another level—no wonder it was practically a crime if he didn’t become filthy rich.
"I wanted it to be a surprise! Sweetheart, marry me, and you’ll have the happiest life!" He grasped her shoulders and made promises about their future.
Touched, she nodded. "I trust you!" Then she playfully added, "But whether I’ll be happy or not remains to be seen!"
"Deal!" He nodded fervently, gazing resolutely into her eyes, glimpsing his own reflection in them.
She pouted. "That’s acceptable, I suppose!"
He pulled her into his arms, gently stroking her long hair, and whispered tenderly into her ear, "You can’t wait to marry me!"
She angrily wriggled free from his embrace. "Who said that? I don’t want to! Marriage is the graveyard of love; I still want to have fun for a few more years! And it’s not like you’re my only option!"
"Ha, I’m teasing you! Besides me, who else could you possibly marry? You’re claimed—your wings are clipped! You’re bound to me forever in this lifetime!"
"So bossy?" she quipped on purpose, though her heart felt as sweet as honey.
He gently kissed her forehead, then her cheeks, and finally her flushed lips. "Why don’t we just get married right away?"
She shook her head. "No way! We’ve already discussed this—I still have school! The earliest would be after I graduate. And I haven’t even decided whether to marry you yet. It depends on how well you perform!"
"Then let’s get engaged first, and marry after you graduate. I’ll take that as an agreement!" He couldn’t wait to keep her by his side; everything about her was so endearing, he felt like devouring her whole.
Just as Li Si was about to respond, his phone rang. Checking the caller ID, she whispered, "Who is it?" "Long Wu," he answered.
After speaking, he picked up the call. "What’s up!" Long Wu sure had a knack for ruining the mood—interrupting such an intimate moment.
On the other end, Long Wu seemed excited, speaking rapidly about something. Li Si quietly leaned closer to eavesdrop on snippets of the conversation.
Leng Mochen hung up and turned to her. "Looks like something happened. Long Wu was kicked out by Su Meng. We need to head back and take a look."
"Alright!" Li Si was growing concerned too. Just as progress seemed to be happening between the two, trouble had sprung up again.
Back downstairs at Li Si’s apartment, Long Wu stepped out of his car and into the back seat of theirs as it parked. Rubbing his temples in frustration, he said, "Leng Er, I’m losing my mind!"
"What happened?" Leng Mochen and Li Si turned to look at him, waiting for an explanation.
"Ugh, I just called Heizi, and he said that while hypnotizing Meng Meng, he uncovered some bad things about me."
Long Wu was filled with regret—if he had known this would happen, he would have stopped it at all costs, not letting Heizi take her away. He had assumed Heizi simply wanted to learn something about Meng Meng. Who could’ve expected hypnosis?
"Brother Wu, what’s the deal with you and Meng Meng?" Li Si asked curiously. She knew there was a story beneath it all, but couldn’t pinpoint what it was. Perhaps understanding the details would make the problem solvable.
Leng Mochen also looked at him. Clearly, resolving this issue required Long Wu himself to confront it—no one else could help.
Long Wu leaned wearily against the seat, sighing deeply. "I might as well tell you everything! It’s all my fault! Years ago..." He drifted into memories of the past, recounting his history with Meng Meng.
As it turned out, Long Wu and Su Meng had met at a friend’s birthday party. Over time, he had used every tactic to win her over, eventually succeeding in capturing Meng Meng’s heart.
Back then, she was still a student at the Art College, as pure as a lamb. Despite his own history of dating several girlfriends, he was a seasoned player.
Soon enough, he had sweet-talked Su Meng into giving herself to him, and they began living together. The more he got to know her, the more he felt that she was perfect for him—she devoted herself to him entirely. She even learned to cook, despite never having cooked before, just so he would return home to delicious meals. (To be continued.
