Rebirth: CEO's Sweetheart Reaches the Life Pinnacle!-Chapter 173 - 170: Saying One Thing and Meaning Another
Chapter 173: Chapter 170: Saying One Thing and Meaning Another
Su Meng nodded in agreement, "My dad is the only child in the family. When I was very young, both my grandparents passed away, so we’ve always been very close to my grandmother’s side of the family! I only have one uncle, and he’s been incapable of doing much all these years—until I met Long Wensong...
My whole family benefitted because he’s wealthy and willing to spend money on me! Maybe I wouldn’t have admitted it back then, but when I was with him, I had a lot of vanity driving me.
But now, my biggest regret is ever meeting him. If there were such a thing as a regret pill in this world, I’d take it without hesitation. I don’t ever want the chance to know him in this life again!"
"Just now, my mom was still trying to persuade me, saying the past is the past, and it’s no big deal—people have to look forward! But I can’t let it go; at least in my heart, I can’t move past it! I don’t even dare tell her the whole truth!
She’s only just recovered, and I’m scared of upsetting her! Right now, all she’s focused on is matchmaking the two of us! Sisi, tell me, am I not caught in the middle here? I feel like I’m dying inside, and yet I have to smile on the outside!" At this point, tears were already streaming down her face.
Li Si quickly pulled out two tissues and handed them to her. "If you want to cry, just let it out! Once you cry, you’ll feel some relief! Meng Meng, let me say this—Auntie doesn’t know the truth, but her intentions are for your own good! You don’t have to carry such a heavy emotional burden.
If you truly can’t get past it yourself, you can avoid those situations or frankly explain your feelings. Maybe she’ll understand!"
"You don’t know my mom. Deep down, she can be incredibly stubborn. She’s the kind of person who won’t stop until she achieves what she wants. Sigh, just talking to you about it feels so much better! Tomorrow we’re heading to my grandmother’s place for the New Year, and we’ll be staying for a few days. Will you be okay on your own?" freēnovelkiss.com
Su Meng wiped her tears away, thinking about how lonely it’d be for Li Si to spend the New Year alone. They say holidays make people miss their loved ones more, and if Li Si could go with her, Su Meng would truly love to take her along for the celebration.
"Don’t worry about me, you go on your trip. I’ll be spending New Year’s Eve at Mochen’s place!" Li Si’s eyes twinkled with a smile. How could he bear to let her be alone?
Early the next morning, after seeing off the worried Su Meng and her mother, Li Si began grooming herself, determined to present her best side.
She tried on nearly every outfit in the walk-in closet before settling on a new pink dress from the C Family, paired with white knee-high boots and a short white fur coat over it.
Her hair was styled in a high updo, exposing her slender neck. With a touch of light makeup, she admired her beautiful reflection in the mirror and playfully winked at herself.
Since Leng Mochen hadn’t arrived yet, she stepped into her private space.
The little monkey clutched its partner, Big-Mouth Monkey, excitedly baring its teeth. "Aww... oh..."
"Xiao Guai! Happy New Year!" Li Si picked up the now much bigger little monkey. "So heavy! Just how much have you eaten?"
She glanced around the space. Aside from a few simple structures that remained the same, the previous vegetables and fruit trees had all turned into green organic compost. Near the small river, though, the fish, shrimp, and crabs were still thriving.
The Bone Marrow Cleansing Tree near the riverbank had grown vigorously. Upon closer inspection, it now bore a fully bloomed light pink flower. A delicate fragrance greeted her, faintly reminiscent of the multi-fruit scent of the Bone Marrow Cleansing Fruit she had eaten before.
"Aww..." Xiao Guai gestured, pointing at itself and then at the Bone Marrow Cleansing Tree.
Li Si observed it closely, her curiosity piqued. After some thought, she finally got a clue. "Are you saying that the dent on your forehead is related to changes in the Bone Marrow Cleansing Tree?"
Xiao Guai seemed to understand and nodded excitedly, gesturing more wildly with exaggerated arm movements.
"I don’t get it!" After puzzling over it for some time, she still couldn’t figure it out. "Xiao Guai, help yourself to the fruits and vegetables in the warehouse. I’ll come check on you when I have time!"
Reluctantly, Xiao Guai waved goodbye. It understood she couldn’t stay, but it felt comforted knowing Big-Mouth Monkey would always keep it company.
Li Si left the space and tidied up the disorganized closet.
Suddenly, the doorbell rang.
Her eyes lit up—Leng Mochen must have arrived.
When she opened the door, there he was, dressed in a black leather jacket, a blue striped shirt underneath, and slim black pants. It was exactly the style she loved. In a great mood, she stood before him and spun in a circle, nervously asking, "How do I look?"
He looked her up and down with a teasing glint in his eyes. "Not bad!"
She pouted in protest, "How could it just be ’not bad’? I spent the whole morning deciding!"
He realized he had a wicked sense of humor—he just couldn’t resist seeing her pout. Pinching her soft pink cheek, he said, "Just teasing! You look gorgeous!"
"There you go again!" she grumbled. She had noticed that he always spoke this way—never directly getting to the point.
He lightly rapped her on the head as she grumbled, "What are you muttering about now?"
"Nothing. Oh, by the way, do these gifts on the coffee table suffice for visiting your house?" She pointed at the four boxes of cordyceps and health supplement gift sets.
He glanced over and nodded. "They’ll do." Then he followed her back into the closet, surveying the room. "The others aren’t here?"
"They’re visiting relatives for the New Year and will return in a few days! Has Brother Wu contacted you?" As she continued putting away the clothes she had tried on earlier, she chatted with him.
"Yes. We’re meeting up this afternoon—I thought I’d bring you along for some fun! There might even be fireworks!"
She lit up, clinging to his arm, her eyes sparkling. "Really? Hehe, you’re the best!" She had thought she’d end up staying in the old mansion all day—getting out would be a treat!
"No need for flattery! Now, how will you thank me?" His gaze drifted to her pink, pouting lips.
Understanding his hint, she mumbled shyly, "The usual way!" Slowly, she leaned closer, her eyes catching the reflection of her face in his bright ones just before their lips met.
He cupped the back of her head, deepening the kiss until both of them were breathless before pulling away.
"I could eat you up right now," he murmured in a low voice, his hand tracing the curve of her lower back as he whispered into her ear.
Blushing furiously, she playfully hit him. "Are we still going to your house or not?"
He tightened his embrace. "Nervous?"
"A bit!" she admitted, even though she’d met them before. She still felt a little anxious.
"Don’t worry! I’m here." He reassured her, gently stroking her back.
She looked up from his arms, "Is there anything I should keep in mind when spending New Year’s at your place?"
"Just be yourself!" he said. "Remember, no matter what happens, I’m here for you."
He’d initially thought to tell her to listen more and speak less, but then worried it might make her even more nervous and decided to reword his advice.
"I don’t want to rely on you for everything! It makes me feel useless!" she said earnestly, wanting to do her part and assert her presence.
He lovingly tapped her tiny, scrunched-up nose. "How could you be useless? After we’re engaged, you’ll be my fiancée. Everything that’s mine will be yours, and what’s yours will still be yours! After all, we’ll be living together!"
"Living together? You mean in separate rooms?" she teased, pretending not to understand. That line of his—"what’s yours will still be yours"—warmed her heart. Most men had at least some selfishness, but she hadn’t seen any trace of it in him yet.
He reached out to pinch her face. "Playing dumb? Could you really bear that?"
"Mm!" she replied softly, her eyes not daring to meet his.
"You little troublemaker!" Chuckling, he pinched her rosy cheeks again. "You say one thing but mean another!" (To be continued.
