The next day, the two of them went to Wushi. Located in the center of Bali, it feels even more humid and hot, far away from the coast. This place has everything in terms of wood carvings and various handicrafts.
Their first stop was the Imperial Palace. At first, they didn’t realize it—it was very small and had a rather primitive vibe. There were many tour groups at the entrance, making it quite crowded. Li Si also noticed a lot of lizards scurrying on the ground, and Leng Mochen took a lot of photos for her.
Right across from the Imperial Palace, there was a shop selling roasted suckling pig rice that was incredibly delicious. Li Si felt the trip was well worth it for this alone.
Afterward, they went to the Wushi market. Every narrow street and alley there was filled with tasty treats and boutique shops. From silverware, wood carvings, and batik fabric to clothing, leather shoes, souvenirs, and musical instruments—it was all here, thoroughly comprehensive.
They stayed there for two days. Li Si was especially obsessed with those handmade crafts and bought a lot. If Leng Mochen weren’t there to restrain her spending, she would have bought even more and looked for an opportunity to stash them secretly in her magical space.
Their final stop was the Monkey Park. At first, Leng Mochen didn’t want to enter because he’d heard the monkeys there were quite aggressive and would snatch tourists’ glasses and food. But Li Si insisted, so he accompanied her in the end.
Why was Li Si so determined to visit? Her magical space’s monkey, Xiao Guai, had been acting unusually strange. Ever since she arrived in Bali, it had been overly excited and constantly wanted to come out. But with Leng Mochen around all the time, how could that work? She hadn’t yet figured out how to tell him about the space’s existence.
The two of them had been inseparable during their travels, so how could she suddenly produce a monkey out of nowhere?
She’d heard that the reason for the forest park’s popularity stemmed from the presence of a temple on its outskirts, which wasn’t open to tourists. It was said to have been built exclusively for the Bali Macaques living in the park. Only they could freely enter and leave it.
According to legend, the macaques here frequently harassed the nearby villages, damaging crops and causing trouble. So, a temple was constructed to subdue them. At the same time, Bali residents believed these charming monkeys were the subordinates of the Divine Monkey Hanuman and thus deserved to be worshiped.
With these factors in mind, the macaques in the park lived freely and carefree, with dedicated staff feeding them.
Therefore, besides exploring the towering ancient trees, nutmeg groves, and admiring the various monkey statues and unique temple architecture, Li Si also wanted to use this visit as an opportunity to let Xiao Guai out for some fun.
Imaginings are always perfect, but reality tends to be cruel.
As soon as she arrived, Li Si noticed an issue—why did the monkeys here look so different from Xiao Guai? Xiao Guai weighed at least 60 pounds now. Among the local monkeys, there wouldn’t be a second one like him. He could easily be crowned the Monkey King.
Furthermore, their facial features didn’t even remotely resemble Xiao Guai’s. It gave her a headache. She was terrified that letting him out would draw suspicion and blow her cover.
While she hesitated, both she and Leng Mochen heard a young girl scream. Following the direction of the sound, they turned to see a girl in an orange floral dress being grabbed by a mischievous Bali Macaque, which was tugging at her skirt and demanding the food in her hand.
Li Si couldn’t help but facepalm. What a coincidence, huh? It was the same young couple they had encountered the other night! The girl, scared out of her wits, threw her food to the ground—it turned out to be peanuts. Unfortunately, the monkey still wouldn’t let go of her skirt, eliciting another wave of screams until the boyfriend finally distracted the monkey with peanuts and got it to let go.
Ling Wei, pale-faced and looking terrified, bolted away. When she noticed Leng Mochen and Li Si, her eyes lit up, and she ran toward them, her face still showing signs of distress from the ordeal. "What a coincidence! You two are here too!" she exclaimed.
"Yeah! Are you okay?" Li Si asked politely.
Unexpectedly, Ling Wei started sobbing, "I was scared to death just now!"
Seeing Li Si wearing cropped pants, Ling Wei couldn’t help but look at her enviously. "You’re so smart not to wear a skirt!" she added.
Li Si forced a dry laugh and glanced at Leng Mochen. This had entirely been his brilliant suggestion.
Wang Zhe walked over to comfort Ling Wei, and when he noticed Li Si and Leng Mochen, he seemed genuinely happy to see them. After all, meeting fellow nationals abroad—and twice at that—was proof of fate, wasn’t it?
But with macaques being so aggressive, Li Si felt her enthusiasm wane and decided to leave the Monkey Park. As they walked out, Ling Wei curiously asked Li Si about their plans, though her gaze kept drifting toward Leng Mochen. "Where’s your next stop? We’re heading to Blue Dream Island tomorrow. Wanna join us?"
"Sorry, but we’ve already been!" Li Si responded with hidden relief, inwardly grateful that they’d gone earlier. The intensity in Ling Wei’s gaze at Leng Mochen was unmistakable. If she hadn’t already had a boyfriend standing right beside her, Li Si would’ve believed Ling Wei was outright smitten with Leng Mochen.
Sure, they’d encountered other fellow Chinese travelers during this trip, but this was the first time something like this had happened.
