Chapter 194: Chapter 188 Who Should I Be Good to, If Not to You? (Two Chapters Combined) _2
"Auntie, you’re so amazing!" Li Si didn’t forget to plant a loud kiss on Mrs. Su’s cheek. There was something about the maternal warmth she exuded—Li Si loved it!
With both of them chiming in like that, they managed to coax a beaming smile out of Mrs. Su.
Long Wu had his gaze fixed on Su Meng the whole time, sneaking glances at her repeatedly. But after making such definitive declarations earlier, now, even if he wanted to say something, he just couldn’t find the words.
Su Meng, however, was happily chatting and laughing with Li Si, without exchanging even a glance or a word with Long Wu.
After a pleasant meal, Li Si pulled out some handcrafts she’d bought in Wushi. She gave Su Meng a set of pink wooden cat carvings—adorable and full of charm! Just looking at them could lift anyone’s mood.
For Mrs. Su, she had prepared some beautifully dyed batik fabric that Mrs. Su instantly adored. On top of that, she brought essential oils and silver jewelry for both of them.
Long Wu, who had been watching all of this for quite some time, teased, "Don’t tell me Brother Wu gets the same kind of gifts as well?"
"Of course not!" Li Si took out the largest wooden carving from her bag—a lion figurine. "This one’s for you!"
Long Wu happily accepted it. Being a Leo, he instantly fell in love with the carving at first sight. "Not bad! Let me guess, was it Leng Er who told you I’m a Leo?"
Li Si secretly stuck out her tongue. Actually, Leng Mochen hadn’t mentioned it at all. It was purely by chance—when she first saw the carving, she just felt it fit him perfectly. A lucky coincidence, as it turned out.
As they were seeing them off at the door, Leng Mochen, who had barely said a word all evening, suddenly reached out, possessively wrapping an arm around her from behind. He leaned close to her ear and murmured, "Rest well tonight. I’ll come pick you up tomorrow."
Li Si deliberately brushed it off and avoided overthinking, pretending to be casual as she bid them farewell. But the shyness in her eyes when she looked at Leng Mochen was impossible to hide.
It was already late by the time Mrs. Su retired to her room for the night, leaving Li Si and Su Meng chatting alone in the living room.
"The shop’s trial opening is the day after tomorrow. How’s the prep work coming along?" Li Si wasn’t too worried, knowing Jiang Feng was also involved. She was simply asking out of casual curiosity.
"Everything’s ready—don’t worry about it! Sisi, how was your trip? What did you think of traveling there?" Su Meng couldn’t help feeling envious. If she had the chance, she’d love to go out and explore too.
Li Si perked up and started sharing all the fun and interesting highlights of her trip. She added a lighthearted complaint about how she struggled to adjust to the numbers on the price tags there—paying for a simple meal often included way too many zeros. Swiping her card without triple-checking left her feeling uneasy and insecure! Her story had Su Meng laughing uncontrollably.
The next morning dawned bright and sunny. After sleeping soundly through the night, Li Si woke up feeling much better—no longer as warm and flushed as before. She let out a sigh of relief. Thinking about it, she buried her face in her pillow. He truly belonged to her now, didn’t he?
After freshening up and changing into her outfit for the day, she sat at the breakfast table. Mrs. Su had lovingly prepared a spread of xiaolongbao, mung bean porridge, and crisp, flavorful pickled radishes.
Mrs. Su sat beside her, watching her eat with a face full of affection. "Is it good?" Seeing Li Si’s hearty appetite while eating made her feel happy from the bottom of her heart. This girl had such a pleasant personality; she deeply liked her.
Li Si swallowed a mouthful of baozi, smiled, and nodded. "So good! Auntie, ever since you’ve been here, I’ve gained weight!" she joked. "Has Meng Meng eaten yet?"
"Gained weight? What weight? Girls look better with a bit more flesh on them. Not only is it better for childbearing in the future, but it also looks more blessed!" Mrs. Su chuckled. "Meng Meng left early for the shop; she ate before going. Sisi, Auntie wants to ask you something."
"Hmm? Go ahead!" Li Si set down her chopsticks, looking at her seriously. She had a hunch it might have something to do with Long Wu and Su Meng.
Mrs. Su hesitated for a while before finally summoning the courage to ask, "Has my Meng Meng ever mentioned to you what she thinks of Long Wu these days?"
"Um... She’s probably focused on building her career right now. She hasn’t brought up anything else to me," Li Si answered diplomatically, finding it hard to give a definitive response.
"I see. Yesterday, I noticed that Meng Meng was so cold toward Long Wu—completely ignoring him. As you know, Auntie only wishes for her to find a good partner."
"But now that the kids are grown, they have their own thoughts. It’s not something an old lady like me can interfere with. Oh well, they’re not young anymore. Let them work things out naturally."
Mrs. Su had noticed yesterday how interested Long Wu was, but unfortunately, her daughter showed no interest at all. She didn’t dare say too much; in the end, it was Meng Meng who had to live her own life. Ever since that humiliating experience at their relatives’ place during New Year’s, she could tell that Meng Meng was holding onto some kind of determination.
"Auntie, each generation has its own destiny. Matters of the heart aren’t something we can get involved in. Don’t worry—Meng Meng knows what she’s doing."
