Rebirth: I Am Not the Movie Queen This Time-Chapter 247: The Secret Room Mechanism
The commotion had somewhat dissipated the atmosphere that had just settled down.
It left Zheng Yun and her daughter very upset, yet they couldnโt say anything because of Old Sir Zhong. ๐ป๐โฏโฏ๐ค๐๐๐๐ฐ๐๐๐.๐ธ๐๐ฎ
Aunt Zheng gave a smile and continued, "Old Master, no matter what, today Iโve brought Zheng Yun here to apologize to you and Chuchu. You can discipline her as you please, scold her, and beat her. As an uneducated widow, I donโt even know how to properly manage her."
Then she nudged Zheng Yun forward.
Zheng Yun stood with her head bowed before Old Sir Zhong and said, "Grandpa Zhong, Iโm sorry, I was wrong."
Old Sir Zhongโs expression was grave. He said, "Over this long period, you should know my temperament. I really dislike anyone causing trouble under my name.
In the past two years, I havenโt paid attention to outside matters, yet I never expected that Zheng Yun could so easily influence the decisions of a school, and so casually pin the label โimproper conductโ on an innocent person.
Even I have never done such a thing. Itโs simply ludicrous!"
Hearing this, Wan Chuer was on the verge of bursting out laughing.
Good job, Old Man Zhong!
She was pleased that neither Zheng Yun nor her daughter had managed to fool him with their sob story.
Old Sir Zhongโs words were very harsh, even using phrases like "causing wanton trouble" and "ludicrous behavior". Aunt Zheng was terrified upon hearing this, and Zheng Yun was also extremely nervous.
Zheng Yun "thudded" to the ground, kneeling in front of Old Sir Zhong, crying, "Grandpa Zhong, I was wrong. I wonโt do it again in the future."
Li Shan and Wan Chuer both had dark expressions on their faces.
Wan Chuer walked over and coldly said, "Are you here to mourn? If you want to cry, cry at your own home. My grandfather is fine, who are you crying for!"
It was really bad luck.
Zheng Yunโs wailing was abruptly choked off.
Even Aunt Zheng was taken aback; they hadnโt expected Wan Chuer to be so heartless.
After all, Aunt Zheng had lived for several decades longer. She said, "Chuchu, are you still holding a grudge against Yunโer for what she did to you? To be honest, if you blame her, I donโt blame you. If you have any demands from Yunโer, just say it, and Iโll definitely ensure that Yunโer apologizes to you."
Wan Chuer said with a stern face, "Iโm sorry, but I donโt like to wrongly claim relatives. I donโt have an aunt like that.
As for Zheng Yun, I already slapped her twice the day before yesterday. I said I wouldnโt care about past grievances as long as she doesnโt appear before me and become an eyesore.
When I say something, I mean it, unlike some people."
"I really wonder, my grandfather made himself very clear that day. He told you to behave yourselves and not to create trouble when thereโs none. Yet you just have to be persistently troublesome. What exactly are you trying to achieve?
Are you trying to let Zheng Yun continue, as before, to rely on my grandfatherโs relationship to throw her weight around?
Thatโs ridiculous!"
Wan Chuerโs words were extremely impolite, filled with overt and covert sarcasm, making Zheng Yun and her daughter look even more unsightly.
Unfortunately, Old Sir Zhong didnโt show any reaction, meaning he didnโt see any issue with what Wan Chuer said.
"Old Master... you see... our intentions with Yunโer... arenโt as unbearable as what Chuchu claims," Aunt Zheng stammered.
Old Sir Zhong frowned and slapped the desk with his hand, saying sternly, "Enough, I donโt like to speak of baseless things. From now on, lead an upright life and donโt engage in shady dealings."
Zheng Yun faltered and said in a low voice, "Grandpa Zhong, I will lead an upright life. I was just impulsive with regards to Wan Chuerโs matter this time, I wonโt do it again.
Grandpa Zhong, can I still come to visit you in the future?"
Old Sir Zhong said, "No need."
His refusal was blunt and straightforward, leaving no room for Wan Chuer to add any further comments. She smiled at Zheng Yun and her mother.
In the end, Zheng Yun and her mother left the old residence, reluctant and without gaining anything from their visit.
After Zheng Yun and her daughter had left, Wan Chuer asked, "Did you bring me back here to see if your house needs any renovations?"
Old Sir Zhong laughed and shook his head, "Youโre so impatient. Donโt worry, your grandfather is not a foolish and soft-hearted person. He wonโt let Zheng Yun have the chance to bully you again."
Wan Chuer huffed and muttered under her breath, "Mainly because those two are such good actors."
"Come, Chuchu, go inside with grandpa," Old Sir Zhong called Wan Chuer over.
Wan Chuer helped him inside, but Li Shan stood still without moving an inch.
"Although this house may look old, it is very stable to live in. Itโs warm in winter and cool in summer. If you grow to like it, you can come back and live here," Old Sir Zhong said as he walked inside.
"This house was left to me by my mother, a courageous and resourceful woman. Unfortunately, I didnโt spend much time with her; much of what I know is from what others have told me."
Wan Chuer remembered the legendary story of that woman from the history books and nodded in admiration.
Old Sir Zhong continued, "A few years back, when the house was being renovated, I found a letter hidden in a crack in the wall that my mother had left for me. The letter was written over sixty years ago, and many of the characters were already too damaged to be read clearly. It was only then that I learned she had a premonition of her arrest. To protect her comrades, she chose to face the enemy head-on.
She felt sorry for me, so she buried some of our ancestral belongings in the ground. If it werenโt for that letter, I guess those items would have remained buried."
While speaking, they entered a study.
The old master opened the bookshelf, moved all the books on the second shelf to one side, and then removed a wooden panel behind the books. He reached into the empty space, fumbling around the backside of the bookshelf.
Then Wan Chuer heard a "click" sound, and another bookshelf slowly moved aside, revealing a smooth wall.
There must be something special about this wall, and Wan Chuer looked at the wall curiously, trying to find the mechanism.
Old Sir Zhong, seeing her interest, did not rush her but simply smiled patiently, waiting for her to have her fill of looking.
However, Wan Chuer looked for quite a while without finding any flaws.
She pouted, "Itโs better if you do it."
Old Sir Zhong laughed, "If itโs a mechanism, itโs not going to be so easy for you to spot."
He approached the wall, raised his left hand and, about a palmโs width from the bookshelf, pushed hard against it.
To Wan Chuerโs astonishment, the wall was pushed inward.
"This is so unexpected, how did you think of it?" Wan Chuer exclaimed.
Old Sir Zhong shook his head with a smile, "Your grandfather used to work in espionage. Many spies, for the sake of information security, naturally come up with various mechanisms. This one is just childโs play. If youโre interested, there are many books about such mechanisms on the bookshelf; you can take a look."
Upon hearing there were books specifically about these mechanisms, Wan Chuer eagerly said, "I want to read them, definitely."
