Rebirth Immortal-Chapter 26: The Woman from the Past
Chapter 26: The Woman from the Past
A cold wind swept through the temple gates. The woman's eyes were calm, but Ye Chen could sense a storm behind them.
Her black robes swayed slightly, revealing a glimpse of a silver emblem on her belt-a symbol Ye Chen did not recognize.
The guards remained tense, their hands gripping their weapons. Mei Ling, Lin Xia, Zhao Ming, and General Wu had also gathered nearby, watching cautiously.
Ye Chen studied the woman carefully.
"Who are you?"
The woman's lips curled into a faint smile.
" told you. You may not remember me, but I remember vou."
Ye Chen's eyes narrowed. He had lived two lives. Was she from his past before he reincarnated, or did she know him in this lifetime?
"State your name," he said.
The woman hesitated for a moment before speaking. "Su Lan."
Zhao Ming's eyes widened. "The Silver
Shadow?"
Everyone turned to him.
"You know her?" Lin Xia asked.
Zhao Ming nodded. "Su Lan... She's a top assassin. No one has ever survived after being marked by her."
Mei Ling's grip on her sword tightened.
"Then why is she here?"
Su Lan sighed. "Relax. If I wanted Ye Chen dead, do you think I would walk through the front door?"
Her words were calm, but her confidence was dangerous.
Ye Chen remained unfazed. "Why are you looking for me?"
Su Lan looked at him, her expression unreadable. " came to warn you. You are in danger."
Ye Chen let out a short laugh. "I already know that. The ancient clans want me dead."
Su Lan shook her head. "Not just the ancient clans. There's someone else. someone more dangerous than you realize."
Ye Chen's expression darkened. "Who?"
Su Lan hesitated again. "Not here. Too many ears."
Ye Chen glanced at his allies. They were loyal, but he understood her caution.
"Follow me," he said.
Ye Chen led Su Lan to a secluded hall within the temple. The stone walls were thick, blocking all sound from outside. He sat down across from her, waiting for answers.
Su Lan took a deep breath. "I was hired to kill you."
Ye Chen's expression remained calm. "By who?"
Su Lan shook her head. "That, I don't know. The client remained anonymous. But here's the strange part--the request wasn't just to kill you. It was to erase all traces of you, as if you never existed."
Ye Chen frowned. This was different from the usual assassination attempts. The ancient clans wanted him dead, but they wouldn't go this far.
Su Lan continued. "At first, I accepted the mission. But the more I investigated, the more I realized something was wrong.
Someone is trying to hide a deep secret about you, Ye Chen."
Ye Chen's fingers tapped lightly against the wooden table. "And what made you change your mind?"
Su Lan's gaze softened slightly. "Because I don't kill blindly. I need to know my targets before I take action. And the more I looked into you, the more I realized... you are not the enemy."
Ye Chen smirked. "And what if I was?"
Su Lan's lips twitched. "Then you'd be dead by now."
He chuckled. "Fair enough."
Su Lan leaned forward. "Whoever wants you erased has immense power. I had to kill three other assassins who were sent after you just to reach this place."
Ye Chen's eyes sharpened. "So they already know where I am."
Su Lan nodded. "Yes. And they won't stop coming."
Ye Chen's mind raced. Someone powerful, hiding in the shadows, wanted to erase him completely. This wasn't just about revenge, it was about covering up something important.
' I need more information," Ye Chen said.
Su Lan sighed. "I can only tell you what I know. But I do have one lead. The person who hired me was using a hidden sect in the Northern Wastelands to send messages."
Ye Chen's eyes darkened. The Northern Wastelands... a place filled with rogue cultivators, outlaws, and hidden dangers.
"If we want answers, we need to go there," Su Lan said.
Ye Chen stood up. "Then we leave at dawn.
Back in the main hall. Ye Chen called for his allies. Mei Ling, Lin Xia, Zhao Ming, and General Wu gathered once more.
"We're going to the Northern Wastelands, Ye Chen announced.
Zhao Ming frowned. "That place is a death trap. Why are we going there?"
Ye Chen's expression was serious.
"Because the person who wants me erased is hiding their tracks there."
Mei Ling crossed her arms. "Then we're coming with you."
Lin Xia nodded. "You're not going alone."
Ye Chen shook his head. "No. This time, I can't bring too many people. The more of us there are, the easier it will be for the enemy to notice. I need a small team."
Mei Ling frowned. "Then who's coming?"
Ye Chen looked at Su Lan. "She leads the wav."
Then he turned to Zhao Ming. "I need your knowledge of hidden sects."
And finally, he turned to Lin Xia. "Your ice techniques will help us in the wastelands."
Mei Ling scowled. "And what about me?"
Ye Chen placed a hand on her shoulder.
"Someone has to protect the temple while
I'm gone."
Mei Ling sighed but nodded. "Fine. But if you don't return, I'll kill you myself."
Ye Chen chuckled. "Noted"
General Wu spoke up. "How long will you be gone?"
Ye Chen glanced at Su Lan.
"At least a few weeks," she said. "Maybe longer."
General Wu nodded. "We will hold the temple until you return."
Ye Chen's eyes softened slightly. "Good."
Before dawn, Ye Chen, Su Lan, Zhao Ming, and Lin Xia set off on their journey. The path to the Northern Wastelands was long and dangerous.
As they rode through the mountains, Lin Xia asked, "What do you think we'll find there?"
Ye Chen's gaze was distant. "The truth."
Su Lan, riding beside him, glanced at him.

"And if the truth is more dangerous than you expect?"
Ye Chen smirked. "Then I'll deal with it."
Su Lan chuckled. "You really don't fear anything, do you?"
Ye Chen's expression grew serious. "I fear losing the people I care about."
Su Lan fell silent.
Ahead, the mountains stretched endlessly, leading toward the unknown.
The truth about Ye Chen's past, his enemies, and the forces moving in the shadows-everything waited for them in the Northern Wastelands.
