Chapter 75 - Shadows in the Dark

Qin Hao stood motionless, staring at his phone screen. The call had ended, but the stranger's words still echoed in his mind.

"You're not the only predator in this city."

His instincts screamed that this was no empty threat. Black Tiger had been dangerous, but he was nothing more than a small boss in a much larger game. Someone was watching, waiting for the right moment to strike.

Wu Gang nudged him. "Boss, what's going on? Who was that?"

Qin Hao's gaze flickered. "A new player."

Bao Lei frowned. "Someone worse than Black Tiger?"

Qin Hao didn't answer right away. Instead, he took a deep breath and looked around. The chamber still smelled of blood and gunpowder, and the men who had survived were either unconscious or too weak to fight back.

"Let's move," he finally said. "We can't stay here."

Wu Gang and Bao Lei nodded. They worked quickly, gathering anything useful—guns, cash, and files that might contain valuable information. By the time they were done, the place looked like a warzone.

As they stepped outside, the cool night air hit them. The city's neon lights flickered in the distance, but the streets here were quiet. Too quiet.

Qin Hao's instincts flared. Something was wrong.

"Get in the car," he ordered.

They piled into a black SUV, and Wu Gang started the engine. The tires screeched as they sped off into the night.

The silence inside the car was heavy.

Bao Lei finally spoke. "What now?"

Qin Hao stared out the window. "We need to find out who's behind that call. Black Tiger might be dead, but the people above him won't just let this slide."

Wu Gang smirked. "Let them come. We'll handle them the same way."

Qin Hao shook his head. "This isn't just about brute force. If we don't know who we're dealing with, we're walking blind into a trap."

Bao Lei hesitated before asking, "Do you think it's the Shadow Syndicate?"

The Shadow Syndicate. A name whispered in fear throughout the underground world. No one knew exactly who led them, but their influence ran deep. If Black Tiger had been connected to them... then killing him had just made things worse.

Qin Hao's eyes darkened. "Maybe. We'll find out soon enough."

Wu Gang turned the wheel sharply, taking a hidden route to avoid being followed. "So, where to?"

Qin Hao thought for a moment. "We need information. And there's only one person who might have it."

Bao Lei immediately understood. "Old Ghost?"

Qin Hao nodded. "He hears everything that happens in this city. If someone new is moving in, he'll know."

Wu Gang whistled. "Didn't think we'd have to deal with that crazy old man so soon."

Old Ghost was a legend in the underground. No one knew his real name, but he had been around longer than most criminal organizations. He didn't pick sides—he simply sold information to the highest bidder.

If anyone could tell them who was behind that call, it was him.

Thirty minutes later, they arrived at a run-down teahouse in an abandoned alley. The building looked like it hadn't been touched in years, but appearances were deceiving.

Qin Hao stepped out first, scanning the surroundings before knocking twice on the wooden door. A small slot opened, revealing a pair of sharp eyes.

"Password," a rough voice demanded.

Qin Hao smirked. "The wind carries secrets to those who listen."

The slot closed, and a few seconds later, the door creaked open.

Inside, the air was thick with incense. Dim lanterns cast long shadows on the walls. In the center of the room, an old man sat on a wooden chair, sipping tea. His hair was white, his face lined with age, but his eyes were sharper than any knife.

Old Ghost.

He looked up and grinned. "Ah, Qin Hao. I was wondering when you'd come knocking."

Qin Hao walked forward. "You know why I'm here."

Old Ghost chuckled. "Of course. The whole city is buzzing about Black Tiger's death." He took another sip of tea before adding, "And the people behind him are... very interested in you."

Qin Hao's expression remained calm. "Who are they?"

Old Ghost set down his cup. "The ones pulling the strings from the dark. The ones who never show their faces but control everything."

Bao Lei's fists clenched. "The Shadow Syndicate?"

Old Ghost nodded. "You've stirred a hornet's nest, my boy."

Qin Hao's eyes narrowed. "Tell me everything you know."

Old Ghost chuckled again, but this time, there was no amusement in his eyes. "It's not that simple. You see, information is valuable... and the price for what you're asking is very high."

Wu Gang smirked. "Money? We've got plenty."

Old Ghost shook his head. "Not money." He leaned forward, his voice lowering. "I need a favor."

Qin Hao remained silent, waiting.

Old Ghost continued, "There's a certain man who has something that belongs to me. A small item, but very precious. I want it back."

Bao Lei frowned. "Who is he?"

Old Ghost's smile widened. "His name is Liu Zhen. He runs an illegal casino in the east district."

Qin Hao's mind worked fast. Liu Zhen wasn't just a small-time crook—he was connected to the bigger players. If Old Ghost wanted something from him, it had to be important.

"What's the item?" Qin Hao asked.

Old Ghost's eyes gleamed. "A jade ring."

Wu Gang raised an eyebrow. "A ring?"

Old Ghost nodded. "Not just any ring. It holds... certain secrets."

Qin Hao didn't like mysteries, but he also didn't have time to waste. If this was the price for information, then so be it.

"Fine," he said. "We'll get your ring."

Old Ghost leaned back, smiling. "Good. Then I'll tell you everything you need to know."

As the old man began to speak, Qin Hao listened carefully. Every word, every detail. Because he knew for sure - this was only the beginning.

The real war was about to start.
