Rebirth in Journey to the West: Sun Wukong-Chapter 848 - 849: Rushing Through the Passage (Second Update!)
"These guys were formidable fighters when they were alive. Who would’ve thought they’d end up as just a pile of bones?"
Walking along the road leading into the Ancient God Ruins, Zhao Jun couldn’t help but sigh softly as he looked at the scattered bones on the path beneath his feet.
"People die for wealth, birds die for food. It’s always been this way since ancient times!"
Sun Wukong’s mind flashed with a phrase that he naturally recited. It surprised him, though it seemed to be a memory from Lin Yi, the former master of the Time-Space Life-Death Talisman.
Since arriving in the Yuan Realm, the residual memories of the former master within the Time-Space Life-Death Talisman seemed to have been activated, continuously integrating into Sun Wukong’s divine soul. Unconsciously, many words and actions that he had never encountered before would slip out, yet felt unusually familiar, as if it was natural to say and do them.
"What a great saying—people die for wealth, birds die for food! I never expected you to be so talented, Brother Wukong!"
This phrase had never been heard in the Yuan Realm. Zhao Jun’s eyes brightened as he looked at Sun Wukong with a different gaze.
Sun Wukong gave a wry smile. He couldn’t possibly say that this phrase was inherited, could he?
The Time-Space Life-Death Talisman was even more mysterious than the Wall of Time-Space, and it was his greatest secret, one that he could never reveal to anyone!
"Rustle, rustle!"
A strange sound rang out. Sun Wukong’s heart tightened, and his eyes flashed with dark golden light as he looked towards the statues on either side, shouting sharply, "The statues are alive! Brother Zhao, be careful, let’s speed up and rush out!"
He sped up, taking advantage of the fact that the statues hadn’t fully transformed into living beings, and rushed forward as quickly as possible.
Zhao Jun dared not delay, following Sun Wukong closely. These statues were no weaklings, as it didn’t take long for them to tear apart other experts in mere seconds. These statues’ cultivation strength was at least at the Realm General level, making it impossible to disentangle from them quickly.
Just now, Zhao Jun and Sun Wukong clearly saw that once the statues transformed into living beings, the Fire-Armored Devouring Divine Insects would appear. They simply didn’t have time to get entangled with the statues here!
Roar~!
The transformation of the statues into living beings didn’t take much time, only a brief moment. When Sun Wukong and Zhao Jun had already rushed into the depths of the passage, the statues let out earth-shattering roars and stepped towards the two of them. Each stride compressed space, equaling several strides of an ordinary person!
"Space Law! These statues can actually use the Space Law! No wonder those people weren’t a match!"
Zhao Jun glanced back out of the corner of his eye, his pupils suddenly tightening. He noticed the Space Law swirling around the statues’ legs, which was why they were so fast, quickly catching up in just a few steps.
"If they can use the Law, so can we!"
Sun Wukong said in a deep voice, already activating the Space-Time Law. The Shrinking Earth into Inches Divine Skill was deployed, instantly accelerating his speed several times as he rushed towards the end of the passage. The Fire-Armored Devouring Divine Insects previously emerged from beneath both sides of the passage, but not at the end, so as long as they rushed through, they would be safe.
Crack, crack!
Zhao Jun also activated the Great Dao Law, speeding up to follow him. At the same time, a sound that made both faces change drastically arose as numerous palm-sized red figures emerged from both sides of the road - the Fire-Armored Devouring Divine Insects!
"Damn it!"
The Fire-Armored Devouring Divine Insects still appeared. At this rate, they wouldn’t make it through the passage before being covered by the insects swarming from both sides!
"Chaos Fire!"
"Heaven-Breaking One Stick!"
Despite Blue Spirit and others saying that the Fire-Armored Devouring Divine Insects could absorb flame power and were highly resistant to other powers, Sun Wukong had no other choice now.
Better a live dog than a dead lion!
He swung out a stick, creating a monumental shadow of the stick, which slammed fiercely into the Fire-Armored Devouring Divine Insect swarm converging ahead in the passage, stirring a powerful energy fluctuation that made the ground tremble violently.
Following that, a terrifying shockwave mixed with Chaos Fire spread out, hitting the Fire-Armored Devouring Divine Insects charging from all directions.
The swarm’s advance halted abruptly. Though the Fire-Armored Devouring Divine Insects were known to absorb all flame energy, they found it far less easy to absorb the Chaos Fire. After absorbing just a tiny bit, their color changed, turning from red to dark black.
The next moment, all the Fire-Armored Devouring Divine Insects with dark black shells screamed in pain, each one turning around and fleeing back along their original path, colliding violently with those still charging forward and exploding fiercely.
Bang, bang, bang, bang!
The massive explosions extended deep into the passage. Zhao Jun looked in shock as the apparently invincible Fire-Armored Devouring Divine Insects exploded one by one, clearing a large section of the passage ahead. The swarm that was just about to close in was blasted open, leaving a significant gap.
"Brother Zhao, let’s go!"
Sun Wukong didn’t expect such an outcome. It seemed that the Fire-Armored Devouring Divine Insects couldn’t entirely absorb the Chaos Fire, or at least couldn’t do so perfectly, resulting in an explosion when they collided with other Fire-Armored Devouring Divine Insects like kindling.
Sun Wukong didn’t dare to be careless. His Chaos Fire was limited, while the number of Fire-Armored Devouring Divine Insects seemed endless. Once his Chaos Fire was exhausted, he wouldn’t be able to counter these insects!
Accelerating, Sun Wukong’s figure turned into a phantom light as he darted towards the gap in the Fire-Armored Devouring Divine Insects’ swarm. Zhao Jun had no time to marvel, following as fast as he could, and the two of them raced through the gap, finally stepping onto the stairs at the end of the passage.
Rustle, rustle!
Crack, crack!
The statues and the Fire-Armored Devouring Divine Insects chasing at full speed behind them suddenly stopped. The next moment, the statues turned around and returned to their original positions, while the Fire-Armored Devouring Divine Insects retreated into the ditches on either side of the road, disappearing quickly as if they had never appeared.
"Phew!"
Sun Wukong let out a long breath, stumbling weakly and almost collapsing to the ground. Zhao Jun quickly supported him.
"Brother Wukong, are you alright?"
"I’m fine, just overexerted. A little meditation and I’ll be good." Sun Wukong’s face was pale as he sat down to meditate. He had not held back at all earlier, nearly exhausting ninety percent of his Chaos Fire, leaving his body extremely depleted.
