Rebirth: Leading Families to Survive in the Apocalypse-Chapter 324 - : Water Ghost
Chapter 324: Chapter 324: Water Ghost
Su Jin looked at her family, now rekindled with fighting spirit, and smiled as she walked in.
Regardless of whether they could find any clues or not, she felt relieved.
Even Mao Qiqi began searching earnestly; the family searched as if on a treasure hunt, not even sparing the contents of a parked truck on the roadside.
“Let’s go, let’s look over there,” Lu Hao said to Su Jin.
Su Jin nodded and walked with Lu Hao into a shop that bore the sign “Traditional Chinese Medicine Established Brand.”
They had just entered this shop, and it was also empty, even the rows of medicine cabinets along the wall had been cleared out.
...
“I think Liang Jiuhui should give an award to his subordinate Space Element Ability Users, they’ve cleared it out so thoroughly, not even leaving any dregs behind,”
couldn’t help but comment Su Jin, however, ever since she knew that the herbs might have been taken by the base, she didn’t feel as regretful, since at least they could be fully utilized in the base.
“Yeah, no worries, if we don’t find anything today, maybe we’ll stumble upon something on our way to E city in a few days,”
Lu Hao said while flipping through a promotional leaflet in his hand.
But he still admired Mao Zhihang; Zhihang had easily found a location where they might be able to grow medicinal herbs.
Meanwhile, the other family members also found some useful information, so they sat down near the bulletin board to go over it, of course, occasionally zombies would wander in, but they were easily dealt with by Lin Xiuyuan and Mao Qiqi, who were on standby.
“Here, this should be the closest,”
Mao Zhihang said, pointing to a spot on the map.
Combining the promotional leaflet Lu Hao had found with a delivery list from one of the shops, he had located the closest place that might have cultivated medicinal herbs, a farm marked on the map.
The promotional leaflet that Lu Hao found announced a “Joint Medical Cultivation” initiative, offering not only land contracted to various herbal merchants but also services like herb recycling and processing businesses. And right at the bottom of the contact information was the address of the herbal cultivation farm.
From here, the address seemed close, just across a river.
“That close? What are we waiting for, let’s go!” exclaimed Lu Guanhai, delighted.
Lin Cheng once again couldn’t help praising Mao Zhihang.
“Let’s first go and see, whether there are any seeds is still uncertain,”
laughed Mao Zhihang; this wasn’t anything remarkable, something anyone with business experience would think of.
“Auntie, no wonder you always say uncle is smart,” said Su Jin, linking arms with Lin Tianzhen.
“Well, he’s just quick-witted when it comes to business, but in other areas…”
Lin Tianzhen gave Su Jin a look, suggesting she grasp the meaning on her own.
“Mom, dad is really awesome,” said Mao Qiqi, who was walking by the side, her homework had always been coached by Mao Zhihang, so in Qiqi’s heart, her father was even more knowledgeable than her school teachers.
“Alright, alright, your dad is super awesome,”
Lin Tianzhen conceded, knowing her daughter was sincere in her words.
“Qiqi understands me the best,”
After getting into the vehicle, Mao Zhihang also gave Mao Qiqi a thumbs-up; his daughter was just too adorable.
Lu Hao felt a wave of warmth watching the scene; he too wished for such an adorable daughter.
…
As before, Su Xiangzhe was driving, with Mao Zhihang seated in the passenger seat, navigating for Su Xiangzhe by checking the map, while Lin Cheng followed closely behind.

After hitting countless zombies, the group finally saw a not-so-wide river in the distance.
Driving along the riverbank filled with Dark Blood and zombie corpses, they came upon a stone arch bridge.
But as they drew closer to the bridge, everyone’s hearts sank.
The middle of the other side of the bridge had collapsed, apparently hit by something, leaving the center of the bridge with a narrow path just wide enough for one person to pass through.
“Shall we pack up the car and walk across on foot?”
Su Xiangzhe turned his head and asked.
“There is something under the river; it’s a mutant animal,”
Mao Qiqi’s statement directly nullified Su Xiangzhe’s idea, which sounded not too bad. If they were attacked by an unexpected mutant animal while crossing the bridge, it would indeed be very dangerous.
“Damn, a mutant animal in the river, could it be a fish monster?”
Lin Xiuyuan’s voice came through the walkie-talkie.
Could the mutant animal be responsible for knocking down that section of the bridge?
“Uncle, is there another route?” Su Jin asked.
“There is one; it’s not a bridge, but it will take about an hour or two to get there,”
Mao Zhihang replied while looking at the map.
An hour or two, huh…
Considering the only mutant animal below, everyone unanimously thought that this route would be safer, especially since it was getting late.
But how to lure out that mutant animal?
“Let’s get out of the car and wait to see if it comes out,”
Su Jin suggested, taking the opportunity to kill some zombies as well.
Mao Qiqi watched everyone from the side of the car, killing zombies. To keep an eye on the mutant animal’s movements, she decided not to join in on the zombie slaughter. However, the mutant animal under the bridge seemed to be staying still in its original position.
Could it be a turtle?
Mao Qiqi couldn’t help but think to herself.
But after about 10 minutes or so, Mao Qiqi noticed the spot started to move slowly towards the shore.
There weren’t many zombies by the river, and to prevent the possibility of the mutant animal in the river suddenly lashing out, the family quickly cleaned up the surrounding zombies.
“It seems like it’s at the shoreline,”
Mao Qiqi pointed to a spot and said. She used the term “seems” because she couldn’t see anything with the naked eye.
The shoreline?
Could that thing climb?
“Where? I don’t see anything,”
Lin Xiuyuan peered over the railing, looking down where the railing joined the river’s edge. All he could see was a stretch of muddied, stranded riverbank—nothing else.
“Lin Xiuyuan, step back a bit,” said Lu Hao.
Since Qiqi said it was there, it couldn’t be wrong. Lu Hao condensed a fireball in one hand and smashed it down towards a spot below the railing. A muffled groan followed by the ground’s trembling came up to them.
The crowd finally saw a lump of the so-called mutant animal, as it arched itself up from behind the railing.
“What is that thing?”
Lin Cheng showed a look of indescribable bewilderment.
“I also… don’t know,” Su Jin murmured, looking at the creature.
Before their eyes was an animal lying on the riverbank. It wasn’t very large, about the size of two adult elephants. When it turned its face fully towards them, there was only one thought in everyone’s mind.
Hideous…
Its limbs were still sprawled on the ground, looking like a person crawling. Perhaps because its back was covered with aquatic plants and mud, it hadn’t been noticed earlier while lying on the muddied riverbank.
“Is this… a water ghost?” Huang Yunxiang said.
