Rebirth: My Reclusive Husband Helps Me Get Revenge!-Chapter 75: Where was this so called father when she needed him before
"With all due respect, Miss, Master Nangong’s intentions are to ensure Madam Leili’s comfort and health," Butler Chao replied, his tone unyielding. "If you wish to discuss this matter further, I suggest speaking with him directly."
The call ended abruptly, leaving her staring at the screen in disbelief. The car rolled to a stop in front of the Mo family estate, but Lixue remained frozen for a moment, her mind racing.
Her grandfather had reappeared in her life, and now he was taking control of her mother’s care? Without her consent?
She stepped out of the car, the chill of the night air doing little to cool her rising anger. By the time she reached the door, her emotions were a storm threatening to spill over.
"Oh..young Madam welcome back, the young master has been waiting, dinner is almost ready, how is your mother?"
Lixue gave a slight smile as she bowed at auntie Feng "She’s doing fine Auntie Feng, where is Mo Ran?"
She asked she changed into her indoors slippers as auntie Feng pointed to the stairs
"He’s in the study."
Lixue nodded as she headed upstairs, as her back faced auntie Feng, her expression fell as worry too place.
She took a deep breath when she got the study, raising her hand she knocked on the door gently.
Mo Ran looked up from the documents on his desk as the door opened. Lixue entered, her expression tight and shoulders rigid, as if she were holding back an explosion.
"Lixue?" he called, concern lacing his voice. He rose to meet her. "What happened?"
Lixue clenched her hands at her sides, her voice trembling with frustration and disbelief. "The hospital called—they’re taking my mother away tomorrow."
Mo Ran frowned. "Who’s taking her?"
"They said... her father," Lixue replied, the words foreign on her tongue. "A grandfather. I didn’t even know I had one until today."
Mo Ran’s eyes sharpened. "What else did they say?"
"They didn’t give me a choice," Lixue continued, pacing as she spoke. "The butler—his butler—called to inform me like it was already decided. They’re transferring her to some estate where ’her care will be managed better.’ "
"Did they say where this estate is?" Mo Ran asked, his tone calm but firm.
"They didn’t. But it doesn’t matter. They can’t just take her away like this Mo Ran!" Lixue stopped, turning to him, her eyes filled with anger and helplessness. "She’s my mother. I’m the one who’s been by her side all these years. Where was this so-called father when she needed him before?"
Mo Ran placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "This doesn’t add up. Why would someone who’s been absent for decades suddenly want to interfere now?"
"I don’t know," she admitted, her voice quieter now. "The only thing I care about is making sure my mother stays safe. I won’t let him take her away from me." 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
"And you won’t have to," Mo Ran said, his tone resolute. "You’re her next of kin. You have every right to decide her care. If they’re planning to move her tomorrow, I’ll make sure they can’t."
Lixue looked at him, her resolve hardening. "Thank you, Mo Ran."
He nodded and closed the laptop, standing up he placed both hands on Lixue’s face and cupped them together.
"You’ve lost weight, you have a bit of dark circles..have you been skipping sleep?"
Lixue placed her hands on Mo Ran’s wanting to remove it, but he didn’t bulge.
"You can’t escape this, you have a music career to handle, you have an upcoming gig, you have to sleep and rest your voice.."
"But my mother..."
"She’s also my mother-in-law, leave her safety to me and focus on your work..."
Lixue shook her head, she couldn’t unless she made sure her mother was safe, she couldn’t focus on anything.
Mo Ran’s eyes softened, but there was a firm edge to his voice. "Lixue, listen to me. I understand your worry. But you can’t pour everything into this—your body needs to rest, your mind needs to recharge. If you break down, how can you fight for your mother? How can you protect her?"
Lixue felt a weight settle in her chest. She knew he was right. But the thought of letting go, even for a moment, felt impossible. Her mother had always been there for her, and now, when she needed to stand strong, Lixue couldn’t bring herself to take a step back. She didn’t even know what she was fighting against yet—this strange, unknown grandfather, the hospital’s sudden actions, and the overwhelming pressure of it all.
Mo Ran noticed the conflicted look in her eyes and gently lifted her chin, bringing her gaze up to meet his. "Lixue, I promise you—I will take care of this. I won’t let anyone take your mother from you, not without your consent. But you have to trust me. You can’t win this battle if you’re exhausted. I’ll make sure everything is in order while you take the time to rest and focus on your work."
Lixue closed her eyes for a moment, taking a steadying breath. "I don’t know if I can just rest while all of this is going on. I need to protect her. I need to make sure they don’t do something irreversible."
"You will protect her," Mo Ran said, his voice filled with quiet assurance. "But right now, you need to be at your best. And that means taking care of yourself. Leave the rest to me."
Lixue hesitated, but the concern in Mo Ran’s eyes, the steady presence he provided, was hard to ignore. She wanted to fight, to immediately take control of the situation, but she knew he was right. She couldn’t help her mother if she was running on empty.
With a deep sigh, Lixue finally nodded. "Okay," she said softly. "I’ll trust you."
Mo Ran smiled, his hands gently brushing her hair from her face as he pressed a soft kiss to her forehead. "Rest, Lixue. I’ll handle everything. You’re not alone in this."
