Chapter 49 -49 Performance
Performance time had arrived.
Forty contestants were divided into eight teams for a group competition.

The final scores comprised two parts.
The organizing committee invited well-known professional singing and dancing teachers as judges to score, accounting for half of the total marks.
The other half came from live broadcast voting, with the top thirty-two contestants advancing to the next round of live performances and shows.
The bottom eight were eliminated directly from the stage.
The order of appearance in the performances was also determined by drawing lots on site.
On stage, the host asked each team to select a person to draw lots.
Shan Zhen and the other four unanimously looked at Luo Ning with a smile and said, “Teacher Luo, please do us the honor.”
Luo Ning chuckled, “Okay.”
She dressed youthful and vibrant that day, full of bright and bubbly energy.
She drew number five for the show order, which wasn’t bad.
Seeing this, other teams asked their mentors to draw lots; Bo Xiangxiang drew number four.
Chai Jing looked helplessly at the ball he drew, “My luck seems a bit off today.”
He drew number one, which carried considerable pressure of opening the show.
Wei Yao showed the ball he had drawn and said, “We’re quite alike; I drew number eight. Looks like our middle-aged group will be both starting and ending the show.”
For the first group, judges and the audience tend to be conservative with their scores and votes. For the last, everyone’s patience is nearly exhausted, so neither are ideal situations.
“Then we must give it our all,” Chai Jing encouraged Wei Yao, and they boosted each other’s morale.
After the lots were drawn, the first group quickly took the stage.
The song they performed was fairly on-theme, but the chosen dance was too gentle, lacking a bit of passion. Overall, it was just fine.
As a result, the first group didn’t score very high.
Next, Tong Jia’s group followed with a standard performance that adhered to the theme quite well, scoring and receiving votes that were better than the previous group.
The third group was Su Qinglan’s, where one contestant was so nervous they broke their voice singing, and another missed two beats in the dance out of nervousness, leading to low scores.
When Bo Xiangxiang’s group performed, she took the center position as expected, belting a high note to start, instantly heating up the atmosphere.
Then, wearing a short skirt, she made a very charming opening move, and the other five danced ardently around her.
Luo Ning languidly sat in her chair, watching the fervent dance on stage.
Bo Xiangxiang, rightfully the protagonist of the story, had a superior vocal range and timbre, and her technique was quite adequate.
However, her voice tended toward the softer side; immediately starting with a high note indeed drew attention, but from a professional standpoint, it seemed slightly tense.
Her movements were supple in dance, playing to her strengths to display a soft elegance. Individually she had no issues, and one might even say she truly shined.
But their dance incorporated elements of energetic moves, so the overall performance made it seem like Bo Xiangxiang was a beautiful swan shining alone on stage.
The five beside her were the ugly ducklings, on the stage solely to highlight the swan.
Moreover, Bo Xiangxiang sang one-third of the main vocals and even some of the chorus, turning this team’s performance into her solo, with the other five relegated to backup.
This muddled the primary and secondary roles, leading the judges to lean in and whisper among themselves in discussion.
The program had enlisted five professional teachers as judges, two of whom Liu Shaoxian had approached privately to look out for Bo Xiangxiang; consequently, they both gave high scores.
After all, Bo Xiangxiang’s performance really wasn’t bad; what was lacking were the five students following her.
The other three judges, who were more straightforward, felt that Bo Xiangxiang completely overshadowed her group. She stood out brilliantly, but the students were cast into dull obscurity, so their scores were not particularly high.
However, after averaging the scores, Bo Xiangxiang’s group still achieved the highest so far.
Then it was time for Luo Ning’s group to take the stage.
The song they had composed was very lively. Several young men took turns singing as they entered the stage, with Luo Ning coming on last, singing the chorus.
This time, when she started singing, her voice had a sweet clarity that cleverly joined in with the five boys’ melodies and harmonies, giving it a carefree and light feeling that matched the theme of this edition perfectly.
The choreographed dance was light and lively with added fast beats, very engaging, soon lifting the whole venue’s atmosphere.
During the final section, Luo Ning joined everyone in the finale and belted a high note. Her breathing and voice were very stable and had a particularly clear and ethereal quality.
“High notes are the same, but how can Luo Ning’s sound so ethereally melodious.”
“Luo Ning’s voice is so beautiful; I’m amazed once again.”
“Previously, when she was singing that song in the workroom, her voice seemed more on the ethereal side, but today she really brought out that light-hearted sweetness, impressive.”
“Yes, yes, when she sang about cherries, her voice was really sweet to the point of being irresistible.”
“This song is too cheerful, such a strong rhythm, so pleasant to hear!”
“Originally, I thought the songs from Luo Ning’s group would be soft or slow-paced, but listening to it, it’s quite energizing.”
“Just like Luo Ning said before, a light-hearted song can truly shine, and their group really did dazzle.”
“Not bad, and the best part is that each person in their group has their own unique qualities, it’s especially balanced. No one stands out too much, nor does anyone seem inferior, which is actually quite difficult to achieve.”
“I just listened to Bo Xiangxiang hit the high notes, and I told my friend it was pretty good, but now after hearing Luo Ning’s high notes, I take back what I said.”
“Ningbao and the brothers are all so awesome!”
Luo Ning’s group’s song and dance matched the theme perfectly, combined with their firm singing and dancing, those two judges couldn’t find a reason to give low scores; in the end, they had to settle for above-average scores.
The other three judges really liked it, all giving high scores.
Thus, Luo Ning’s group scored higher than Bo Xiangxiang’s and temporarily took first place.
The next group to perform was Ji Xinghang’s. Their singing and dancing were fiery, and Ji Xinghang did not take the lead vocals or the central spot in the dance.
But since they were all boys, with handsome and cool expressions, and had the best height and figures, on top of being top influencers, it was impossible for Ji Xinghang not to stand out.
Many girls in the audience couldn’t help standing up and screaming, shouting out Ji Xinghang’s name.
Their singing and dancing were good, and their performance was stable, but they only slightly touched on the theme, so their final score was a few points lower than Luo Ning’s group, placing them second for now.
Then came Lu Xun’s group. He didn’t dance much, mainly providing support by singing about one-fifth of the song.
Lu Xun, with his jade-like face and extraordinary elegance, tall and straight stature, exuded a restrained nobility that was impossible to overlook.
His voice was also particularly magnetic and pleasant. Even Luo Ning felt as if her ears were about to get pregnant when she heard him sing.
Therefore, the scene was equally energized, with nearly everyone standing up to shout his name.
Their group’s singing and dancing fit the theme, and their stage presence was quite stable. Given Lu Xun’s popularity and status, the judges all gave high scores.
As a result, they received the highest score of the entire event.
The last group to perform was Wei Yao’s. Their performance didn’t particularly stand out—nothing bad but also not dazzling.
