Chapter 66: All Of Us Will Die Here Today

Zero struggled to his feet with low grunts. His arched back and sickly skin trembled as he stood against the wall. His neck hung at a weird angle before Lorelei snapped it into place.

She hoisted his arm over her shoulder and carefully walked to where the struggle for internal dominance was happening. To satisfy her curiosity, she asked Zero how he survived.

"The Void... Is a useful tool," he replied slowly as he crouched at the edge of the miniature crater Aden’s struggle had created.

Lorelei didn’t press any further. The issue at hand was too dangerous to be having an enlightening lecture.

She crouched next to him, her eyes never leaving Aden’s body that was thrashing around the ground with such a feral expression it reminded her of the wildest beasts that resided in the most dangerous parts of the Void Realm.

’Just hold on for a little longer, Aden,’ she pleaded internally.

Her head turned to Zero who currently had a strange expression and she asked, "What are we going to do?"

Zero didn’t change his position. His eyes remained fixed on the internal strife happening below and his eyes flickered with unspoken conclusions.

After a minute, he turned to her, his sickly face carrying something else besides pain. "We need to seal it."

Lorelei bit her lips. She had a faint premonition that it would eventually come to this.

Sealing a being or any living entity was an extremely dangerous operation, and at the very least, it demanded a person’s soul to be sacrificed for it to be carried out. For stronger beings, two souls in perfect sync with each other’s would be the bare minimum.

"But there’s a... Problem" Zero added with a strange expression.

Lorelei’s eyes furrowed. Her body trembling from the tremors caused by the continuous collision of Aden’s body against the ground.

"There’s already a seal placed on his memory."

Her heart skipped a beat. "Another seal? But how?"

Zero stood up. "That’s beyond my knowledge. But my perception picked up a range of inactivity in the lower part of his brain. Which means only one thing."

"The nerves and Resonance channels in that area were severed with surgical precision," Lorelei interjected.

Zero nodded with a solemn expression. "We can’t place two seals on his mind and soul. It’ll slow his cultivation progress and he might never break through again."

Lorelei’s face turned grim. A look of devastation slowly crept onto her face as she watched with great dissatisfaction the ongoing battle with no physical opponent.

"So... There’s nothing we can do?"

"... Sadly, yes. Our Lord will have to face this battle without us."

Those words hung heavy in the air. A drop of crimson dripped from Lorelei’s nose. Her hands automatically touched her nostrils with a pale expression.

Zero turned away from the battle with a confused look. "Third Vassal?"

Lorelei wanted to say something but she spat out another mouthful of blood. The sudden wave of nausea nearly caused her to fall into Aden’s range of destruction if Zero hadn’t caught her.

"Third Vassal! What is going on?" Zero questioned as he studied Lorelei’s face drained of colour.

A line of crimson traced down the corner of her lips, her beautiful eyes threatened to close if not for Zero’s fingers holding them open.

Her voice came out in gargles, the strain from the technique she used finally breaking past the wall of willpower at the worst possible time.

"Don’t... Worry about me. I just need to..."

Zero’s eyes hardened as Lorelei’s voice trailed off. Her eyes were still forced open by his fingers, but the firmness that usually indicated consciousness in a person’s face was gone.

His hands moved to touch her heart. It was still beating, faintly, but constant enough.

"Third..." He whispered.

Without wasting time, he lifted her up awkwardly and walked to a corner of the cave where the other Vassals had huddled up.

They were still very weak, but that didn’t deter them from taking Lorelei’s body from Zero’s grip.

She was fixed in their centre. The sickly bodies placed their hands on every part of her body and a dark aura thinly surrounded Lorelei’s body.

Watching this, he let out a low sigh. "At my command, you will evacuate this place. Is that understood?"

"Yes... Fifth," they replied with dull, synchronized voices.

"The Lord might—"

"YOU DID WHAT?!"

Aden’s voice, filled with endless rage enveloped the entire atmosphere so heavily Zero and the rest struggled to breathe.

"YOU WON’T SEE THE LIGHT OF DAY! I PROMISE YOU!!"

Zero’s body moved alarmingly fast, urgency laden in his steps as he ran to observe what was happening.

He skidded at the edge of the crater and his eyes reflected a view so strange that he was left speechless.

Below him, in the center of the crater, Aden’s body was no longer thrashing. His left hand had buried itself deep into his heart and a mix of red and black blood was leaving out of it at an alarmingly fast pace.

"How dare you touch my Vassals?! What in the world gave you the right to do that, huh?!"

Aden’s face twisted in pain, at least half of it. The other half was a cold, almost emotionless contrast to the stimuli passing through his senses.

"I do what I want, when I want," Aden’s other half replied, a faint, cold smile tugging at his lips.

Something snapped inside Aden. Those words were something far more precious to him than anyone could ever imagine. The Entity had clearly known that was Kaelthorn’s first words to him after saving him from the jungle attacks and yet, he used them against him.

Aden’s hand clenched around his heart. Their expressions had become singular. There was no sign of pain, no sign of discomfort, the adaptive feature granting him an advancement over the internal pain, but the rage in the left side of his eye was unmistakable.

"Fuck it all."

The Entity’s half changed from its cold exterior to reveal a flicker of confusion. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
