Rebirth of the Super Battleship-Chapter 547: The Last Night
In fact, everyone knew very well in their hearts that so-called war preparations were actually a very laughable matter. The reason was simple. In the earlier preparations for escape, all spaceships with long-voyage capability, whether military, commercial, or civilian, had all fled with the populace after undergoing appropriate refits. Left behind here were only some small craft with only intra-system navigation capability. Even so, the number of such small craft was not large, only around thirty thousand, and most were generally not equipped with weapons.
The type of engines determined that such spaceships had inadequate maneuverability. The energy supply and storage modules were too small, which determined that such spaceships had extremely poor range. Their defensive power was low, and the weapons hastily added were mostly ordinary light-beam weapons. They could not even mount negative matter weapons. The combat power of these small spaceships did not even measure up to that of the fully armed spaceships of a Level 4 Civilization.
This was all the interstellar war power the Pegasus Civilization possessed at this moment. Oh, perhaps one should add those space gun turrets operating in geosynchronous orbit around the planet, as well as the scant interstellar mine clusters.
Only five months remained until the Arboreal Race Alien Beast and that unknown presence following behind it arrived. What could five months accomplish? Even for Xiao Yu, with Xiao Yu’s formidable executive ability, to construct a complete interstellar fleet would still take dozens or even hundreds of years. How much more so for the Pegasus Civilization, whose various essences had been utterly depleted?
People understood this fact in their hearts, yet they still used the greatest enthusiasm to build their military strength. Under this astounding capacity for action, all planetary engines on this planet were fully repaired, the super negative matter cannon and the planetary shield were repaired, too, with even some improvements in performance.
This planet was the Pegasus Civilization’s only, and also last, piece of high-power weaponry.
People kept busy. Amid their busyness, time slipped by bit by bit, and the final moment of judgment finally arrived. Detection showed that the Arboreal Race Alien Beast was only one day away from reaching this planet.
The Pegasus Civilization’s requests for communication were once again ignored. The few remaining detection instruments beyond the star system that attempted communication met extremely poor outcomes. Any instrument that tried to communicate with the Arboreal Race Alien Beast was inexplicably destroyed afterward.
Everything that could be done had been done, and everything that could not be done had also been done. At this moment, on a night that very likely was the last of their lives, many people could not sleep. People finally gave up their busy work and at last had time to walk the streets, to enjoy the feeling of gathering with their own kind for one final evening.
This was the last night, the final banquet. Various supplies began to be provided freely. The city blazed with lights. People vented themselves with a frenzy as if experiencing a festival. Countless people fell drunk on the streets, and countless others returned to their homes to spend this last night with their relatives, or lovers, or friends.
On this last night, no violent crimes or disorderly incidents occurred. “Even if we die, let us die with some dignity. When our descendants speak of us, they can tell of our deeds with faces full of pride, not faces full of shame.”
The final day finally passed. At this time, people could even see with small telescopes the massive silhouette of that terrifying existence in the sky. The interstellar fleet set out to launch a proactive attack on this Level 6 Alien Beast. The interstellar mine clusters began to converge upon that giant, and the interstellar fortresses began to attack it… but regrettably, none of these attacks could even break the skin of this monster.
Despair filled people’s faces as they watched the interstellar fleet destroyed by that giant Alien Beast like flies. All the attacks from the interstellar mine clusters and interstellar fortresses were in vain. Even the super negative matter cannon mounted on the planet could not leave so much as a noticeable mark on this giant.
Boundless despair began to spread in people’s hearts.
“Our most powerful weapon is our planet. If we could accelerate our planet to ten thousand kilometers per second and ram that thing, then even with that thing’s toughness, it would not withstand it. But this thing moves too fast, while a planet’s movement is ultimately far too slow. We will not have the chance to ram it. What should we do, what should we do…” the highest leader murmured.
Those words were the truth. The Continent-Class spaceship Xiao Yu previously used to destroy this planet’s planetary shield had a mass of only twenty billion tons. Even an impact with a mass of twenty billion tons could release such a vast amount of energy. How much more so a planet? A planet’s mass is how many billion times that of a single Continent-Class spaceship?
If a planet were to impact a star at ten thousand kilometers per second, it could completely destroy that star. This mode of destruction was different from using a stellar cannon to destroy a star. The stellar cannon’s destruction was a shortcut. It was like a massive mountain made of building blocks. Remove a specific block, and the entire peak collapses. A planet impacting at ten thousand kilometers per second meant the head-on destruction of the star. The two could not be compared.
It could be asserted that an impact at such a speed by a planet could not be withstood even by a Level 6 Alien Beast.
But… how could they make this planet collide with that Alien Beast?
The leaders were at their wits’ end until they received a message.
“Beings of the Pegasus Civilization, I am very sorry that I ultimately failed to stop this Alien Beast’s mad scheme and could not make it give up the intention to destroy your home. I truly did my best. Please forgive me.”
“I do not know whether you still possess the ability to launch an attack. I am willing to join forces with you to oppose this evil and insane creature. As for who I am, you do not need to know. It is enough for you to know that I have no malice toward you.”
“Who is this fellow?” The leaders of the Pegasus Civilization looked at one another. After a moment, the highest leader said, “This fellow seems to be that unknown presence that has been following closely behind the Arboreal Race Alien Beast. Could it be that… this fellow has been tailing the Arboreal Race Alien Beast in order to stop it?”
“We need to know your current combat strength.” the Pegasus Civilization sent in reply.
“I am not a match for the Arboreal Race Alien Beast.” the Specter companion replied. “Although I possess speed not inferior to its own, that speed is something I obtained by other means. In a frontal fight, it would take about twenty of me working together to fight it to a draw.”
The last shred of hope that had arisen in the hearts of the Pegasus Civilization’s leaders was extinguished. However, during this period they had already endured enough trials, so they did not react to this problem.
“Then… we need to know whether you have the ability to pin down the Arboreal Race Alien Beast and keep it from moving for at least three hours. If you can do that, we will, at the cost of completely ruining the crustal structure of our planet, accelerate our planet to ten thousand kilometers per second within three hours and ram it at that speed…”
The highest leader of the Pegasus Civilization replied.
“I can try.” After a moment of silence, the Specter companion replied.
The Arboreal Race Alien Beast had not paid any attention to the exchange between the Specter companion and the Pegasus Civilization, because with its strength it was simply too lazy to bother with such little ants. Its goal was only to search for the Divine Ark Civilization. Upon discovering there was no trace of the Divine Ark Civilization here, it already intended to leave and continue tracking Xiao Yu.
After receiving the Specter companion’s last sentence, the Arboreal Race Alien Beast snorted coldly in its heart and was about to turn and leave, never to return here again. But the moment it merely stirred, it found it suddenly could not move. The Specter companion had somehow used a certain method to hold it in place. Then, that planet still at a distance began accelerating continuously, charging toward it.
A planet’s impact contains such awe-inspiring power. Even a Level 6 Alien Beast would inevitably be injured under such a collision.
“Damn it, damn it. How did this Specter unite with the Pegasus Civilization, and how could the Pegasus Civilization be so insane? They must know that by using a planet to ram me, I may indeed be injured, but their planet will be completely destroyed. That is their capital planet. Are the beings of the Pegasus Civilization all a bunch of lunatics?”
“I did not come here intending to destroy your planet.” Unable to move, the Arboreal Race Alien Beast finally sent out its first message. But what came next was the Specter companion’s second message, “This is our last chance. I am paying with my own life force to hold the Arboreal Race Alien Beast in place. If we lose this opportunity, we will all die. He is deceiving you. Do not be fooled by him.”
“I came here only to search for traces of the Divine Ark Civilization. It has nothing to do with you. That is your capital planet. Abandon this insane act at once. I will soon break free of the Specter’s restraint. Once I regain my freedom, I will leave immediately and absolutely will not harm you.”
“This Alien Beast Civilization is the most insidious, crafty, and cruel existence in the universe. This is his lie. Remember, this is our only and last chance. If we miss it, we will all die. No one can escape.”
Driven by the planetary engines, the speed of this planet was slowly increasing…
