Rebirth: Revenge of the abandoned heirress-Chapter 39: Meeting at the office
Chapter 39 - Meeting at the office
"What nonsense!" Rosaline slammed her fists on the table, scrunching the newspaper before throwing it away angrily.
"You old fool! Do you have no brain in you? Why would you allow them to bring this filthy newspaper to me?! Are you trying to provoke me?! It must be—" she seethed. "You've always liked that bitch! You must have done this on purpose!"
The butler remained calm. "Youngest Miss, this is the routine newspaper they deliver daily."
"Then why do I see that bitch's face on it?! I don't want to see her disgusting face ever!"
"Miss, I'll be more cautious from now on."
He quietly took away the torn newspaper.
On the front page, there was a large image of Jazmine Harrison.
The article praised her for her charity work—how she had opened a small shop in the slums to feed the homeless and provide medical aid for orphans.
Page after page was filled with people admiring her actions.
The butler smiled inwardly but kept his face neutral.
"Tian'er, rest easy," Scarlette Whites consoled her daughter. "We will get back at her for what she did."
"I won't rest easy until that bitch disappears from the face of the earth!" Rosaline hissed.
"It won't take long. We both know about the bad investments she's made. Sooner or later, she'll destroy herself. Then she'll have nowhere to go but to us."
Scarlette smirked.
"And when that day comes... we'll have our revenge."
Rosaline's rage cooled slightly.
"You're right. After all, she doesn't have a single shred of talent. Just a pathetic novice. And yet, that senile old man gave her the entire enterprise?" She laughed cruelly. "I can't wait for the day she falls. When she begs for my mercy, I will watch her suffer."
"That day will come soon."
Just then, her brother, Damien Harrison, walked down the stairs, his face pale.
"Little sister..."
Rosaline frowned. "What happened?"
Damien hesitated, gripping the banister tightly.
"Jazmine Harrison... the shares she bought."
Scarlette and Rosaline both turned to him sharply.
"Her total investments have exceeded fifty percent in profits... in just fifteen days."
He swallowed hard.
"We were completely wrong."
On the highest floor of the Tang Enterprise twin skyscrapers, Jazmine Harrison sat in her luxurious office.
"Take a seat, Mr. Smith."
Lucian Smith walked across the spacious office and sat in the chair before her.
The woman facing him had a confident, small smile—warm but unreadable.
Her green eyes were resolute, calculated.
She knew what she wanted.
And she would get it.
Lucian had never trusted corporate elites.
"Mr. Smith," Jazmine began, "I assume you know why I invited you here."
"I received a letter from Tang Enterprise."
He intentionally kept his voice low and timid.
He never revealed his true self until he had properly assessed the situation.
"And... have you decided?"
"I'm afraid I must decline."
Jazmine tilted her head.
"Well..." A fleeting smile passed over her lips as she rose from her chair.
Lucian froze.
Something about her felt off.
New novel 𝓬hapters are published on ƒreewebɳovel.com.
Something dangerous.
"Would you care to explain," she asked, "why you're rejecting such a good offer? It's a well-known fact that people would do anything for a position at Tang Enterprise. So why refuse?"
"I don't think I'm qualified to be a secretary here. I have no degree, no experience."
His eyes darkened slightly.
"The real question is... why would President Harrison even consider me?"
The entire situation was suspicious.
Lucian wouldn't have even shown up if it wasn't for the power Jazmine held.
She was a formidable force.
Not someone he could simply ignore.
Jazmine chuckled softly.
"Why do I not believe you?"
She stepped around the desk and stood directly before him.
"You're not declining because you think you're unworthy, Lucian Smith."
She paused, her brilliant green eyes glinting.
"You're declining because you're afraid. Or should I say... Cyber Knight?"
Lucian shot up from his seat.
His eyes widened.
She knew?
Which meant—
His heart pounded.
He shouldn't have come here.
He had to leave.
Now.
"You want to run?" Jazmine's voice was amused.
She took her seat again, completely at ease.
"My guards are stationed right outside. And there are dozens of them. You won't get far."
Lucian's fingers twitched.
His timid act vanished.
His true self surfaced—his gaze sharp, his voice cold.
"What do you want?"
Jazmine leaned back, smirking.
"Is this why you bought my mother's shop?" Lucian demanded. "Is this why you offered her a job? Was this all a scheme to lure me out?"
Jazmine laughed.
"You think too highly of yourself," she mused. "My acquaintance with your mother has nothing to do with you."
Lucian's fists clenched.
"Is it my Heng family behind this?" His voice was sharp. "I already relinquished my inheritance. I told them I wanted nothing to do with them. Is this their way of dragging me back?"
Jazmine simply gestured for him to sit.
After a moment's hesitation, he did.
"As I said," she continued, "your mother has nothing to do with this. And I have no connections to your Heng family."
Lucian narrowed his eyes.
"Then why am I here?"
Jazmine smiled.
"I want you in my company because I recognize your potential."
Lucian went silent.
"You have suffered at the hands of your family," Jazmine said calmly. "They chased you out. They will never stop hunting you."
Lucian's jaw tightened.
"And as Cyber Knight, you've made powerful enemies."
Her gaze gleamed with amusement.
Lucian couldn't tell if she was mocking him or admiring him.
"But how long can you go on like this?" Jazmine pressed.
"You are one.
They are many.
You and your mother will always be vulnerable."
Lucian stiffened.
His mother...
She was his greatest weakness.
He could put himself at risk.
But not her.
"And who will protect us?" His voice was low. "You?"
Jazmine didn't hesitate.
"Yes. I will. If you accept my proposition."
Lucian exhaled sharply.
"I accept your offer."
Jazmine smiled.
"Good."
