Chapter 28: Chapter 28 Unable to Feel

Zhen Yu lowered her head, pondering. Her system currently can only work on herself and cannot assist others.

But she saw options for a system mall and a trading platform below, just not sure if they could be used before Bai Xue graduates from junior high school...

Thinking of this, Zhen Yu lifted her head and said to the three people in the room, "I'm going now."

"Where are you going?" Bai Xue was the first to reach out and grab her.

"Reading! If you don't study, I will!" Zhen Yu's tone revealed a hint of helplessness.

Bai Xue didn't take it seriously and laughed out loud, "Then go ahead! I'll count on you to take care of me when you're successful!"

"Okay!" Zhen Yu didn't say much, but she silently resolved to find a way to help Bai Xue get into high school and college.

Fu Yu, however, was more concerned about summer homework and struggled to ask again, "Zhen Yu! Are you going to let me copy your homework or not?!"

Zhen Yu left without looking back, "No."

"..." Zhen Yan looked at Fu Yu jumping with anger and suddenly realized his sister's personality had really changed a lot!

In the past, she would've agreed the first time Fu Yu asked; how could she now be so adamant about not lending her homework?

Hiss~~ Could it be that she's become rigid and stubborn from hanging out with the bookworm Han Mingyue?

That's not good~~~

-

Having been delayed at the Fu Family for a while, Zhen Yu arrived at the Han Family's house much later than usual.

Although Han Mingyue had guessed to herself, when she heard the knock on the door, she let the girl in as usual.

Returning to her spot with the book she'd just been reading, Han Mingyue pursed her lips and didn't plan to ask too much.

Unexpectedly, just as she lowered her head, the girl spoke.

"Where's Han Jiaoyang?"

Han Mingyue looked up in surprise, "Are you looking for him?"

"Not looking for him. Where is he?" Zhen Yu said as she took her usual seat.

Han Mingyue hesitated, "He should be in his room, I guess?"

"You don't know?"

Han Mingyue shook her head.

"My brother said that he hasn't started on his summer homework at all," Zhen Yu bluntly ratted out Han Jiaoyang.

Han Mingyue's eyebrows lifted slightly, "Really?"

"I'm not sure," Zhen Yu honestly replied, casually pulling the book she hadn't finished the day before off the shelf.

Han Mingyue stood up, setting her book back on the table, "You sit here, I'll step out for a moment."

"Okay," Zhen Yu agreed without even looking up.

Han Mingyue stared at the top of Zhen Yu's head for a second, opened the door, and walked out.

Han Mingyue came to her brother's door and knocked, "Knock, knock!"

"Come in~" Han Jiaoyang's voice sounded inside, obviously at home.

He was lying on the bed, fiddling with a model airplane. Turning to see his brother Han Mingyue coming in, he couldn't help teasing, "Bro~ your little daughter-in-law didn't come looking for you today?"

"Stand up when you talk!" Han Mingyue didn't reciprocate his banter.

Han Jiaoyang got up, sat against the wall on the bed, and asked, "You need me for something?"

Han Mingyue took a seat at Han Jiaoyang's desk, facing him and said, "Show me your summer homework."

Han Jiaoyang obviously startled, and then casually replied, "It's only the 6th, there's plenty of time before school starts~"

"Have you written it?"

"Uh~ written, kind of..." Han Jiaoyang hesitated in his response.

"Let me see it."

"No need, bro!" Han Jiaoyang hopped down from the bed, crouched in front of Han Mingyue, and began to act spoiled.

```
Just like a large pet dog through and through, only lacking a tail to wag behind him.
"I'll tell dad if you don't let me see it!" Han Mingyue made as if to stand up, but Han Jiayang quickly grabbed hold of him.
"Here, here, I'll give it to you right now!" Han Jiayang said as he got up and started searching, quickly pulling out a booklet and tossing it onto the table.
Han Mingyue picked it up and flipped through it, and though it wasn't entirely blank as Zhen Yu had described, nine out of ten pages were empty.
"Put on your clothes and come to my room," Han Mingyue said, holding the booklet and walking towards the door, standing at the threshold to add, "If you don't come in five minutes, I'm telling dad."
"Okay, okay, I'll be there!" Han Jiayang, his scheme uncovered, agreed impatiently.
-
"Zhen Yu~"
"Hm?" Zhen Yu didn't pay attention to the door sound, but when she heard Han Mingyue call her, she looked up.
She saw Han Mingyue holding a booklet that, judging by the cover, was clearly identical to Zhen Yu's summer homework.
Han Mingyue's expression was subtle, "You can sit on the bed and read."
After a pause, he explained, "I'm going to supervise Jiaoyang doing his homework at the desk."
"Okay." Zhen Yu quietly stood up, holding her book and moved to Han Mingyue's single bed.
Han Mingyue couldn't help stealing a glance in that direction; the girl was sitting properly on the edge of the bed, head bowed.
In a moment, Han Jiayang barged into the room without knocking, all loud and brash.
Seeing Zhen Yu sitting on the bed, he immediately shouted, "Ha! So my brother has gone mad today! Is it because of you? Did you tattle on me?"
Zhen Yu looked up and gave him a cold glance, "Yes, it was me."
Han Jiayang felt a shiver from her look, suddenly not daring to utter another word.
Even though she hadn't done anything, he felt like the girl was fierce, as if she would beat him up at any second.
Han Jiayang cried silent noodle tears inside, quietly turning to sit at the desk.
Just study on your own! Why drag me into this? I really don't want to study, okay!
The joy of being a top student is beyond my reach!
Zhen Yu spent the entire day at the Han Family, except for lunch and a nap.
-
Mr. Han was used to this.
One was in middle school, the other had just finished elementary school.
His eldest son was always dependable, and Mr. Han never had any doubts about the authenticity of their studies.
Moreover, he kept calling her his future daughter-in-law, and Ming Yue showed no reaction at all – the kid is just clueless!
-
In the evening, Zhen Yu went home early and cooked dinner, waiting for Mrs. Zhen and Zhen Yan to come back home.
After dinner, as usual, Zhen Yu didn't watch TV; just as she was about to go back to her room to study, Mrs. Zhen stopped her.
"Your father, he came to the shoe store today," Mrs. Zhen spoke of Mr. Zhen with awkwardness, "He said he would pick you two up tomorrow to go to your grandpa's. Wait at home tomorrow!"
Zhen Yan was focused on the TV and agreed with enthusiasm.
Zhen Yu lowered her head and softly replied, "Okay."
-
In her past life, she spent six or seven summer and winter vacations at her grandfather's house, a serious old man of few words, his most frequent utterance to her being "Let's eat!"
Her five aunts would occasionally bring food and clothing, but none of them ever gave money.
Especially after she moved in.
The old man had no income, living only on the support from his only son – Mr. Zhen, managing to buy daily necessities, leading a life without worries for food or clothing.
But extra cash was something he never had.
Thus, Zhen Yu lived with the old man, sharing those summers and winters.
In middle school, she studied diligently, too young for anyone to hire. From her freshman year in high school, during the summer and winter holidays, she started to work outside.
Every evening, returning home, the dim light in the house would shine through the window glass, casting long shadows on the figure at the courtyard gate. His slim shadow always made him seem exceptionally lonely and desolate.
