Chapter 107: Make me

In the eldest prince’s manor in Gloryland, Luciana’s face looked ashen at the news she had just received from Amirion.

Amirion had woken up three days earlier, and he had been very supportive of her, unlike that insufferable Adam.

Even James, who had begun to treat her well recently and made her think he had finally accepted her, stared at her with suspicion and distrust.

Luciana was beginning to think he also believed she had done something to Nick due to those baseless accusations Adam had labeled against her.

"Are you saying the emperor and the empress dowager are currently on their way here?" Luciana asked again.

"Yes, your Highness, they had just entered the carriage bound for the prince’s manor when I hurriedly came here to report to you," he said.

Luciana paced back and forth as if she were about to have a heart attack.

’Five days...It’s been five days, and Nick was still in "slumber," as the physician had said.

And as if Nick being in deep sleep wasn’t bad enough, the emperor and the empress dowager had found out thanks to that witch, Evelyn.

She had no idea how Evelyn had found out Nick was in deep sleep and not waking up in the first place because she had made sure to not let anyone find out.

Even though Adam was against her and suspected she was the cause of Nick’s problem, he had agreed to her decision to hide from the emperor that Nick was in "deep slumber" since it would be bad if his enemies got wind of it.

Luciana knew she couldn’t keep it hidden forever and had been delaying the inevitable, but she still wasn’t ready to face them.

The emperor has been sending eunuchs every single day to ask if Nicholas had returned ever since that morning five days ago when he didn’t report to the palace like he was supposed to.

"The eldest prince left the capital earlier today when he received news about some spies spotted in the mountain areas. We will inform the eldest prince about the emperor’s summons as soon as he returns."

James had told the eunuch. They kept repeating the same lie every day after that fateful day, but their lie had come to light now, and the empress dowager and the emperor had found out.

Luciana paced back and forth as if she were a husband waiting on his wife, who was in labor.

After a while, she turned and glared at the cat.

"It’s all your fault. You didn’t tell me it would take so long. Now the emperor is going to have my head, and it’s all thanks to you," she whisper-yelled.

"How was I going to know he would sleep for five days straight? I didn’t know this was how it was going to be," Lord Algrith said, looking aggrieved. But unfortunately, due to the fur on his face, no one could tell.

"Ha! You gave the idea but didn’t know the outcome? What to do, what to do?"

Luciana kept mumbling under her breath as she continued to pace back and forth.

James and Adam were also standing at the door with solemn expressions on their faces.

Luciana walked towards the bed and held Nick’s hand, intertwining their fingers together and gently squeezing it.

"Nick, please, can you hear me? I’m getting worried; please wake up. I’d do anything you ask, no questions asked, just wake up...please?" She begged, and a hoarse voice, barely audible, replied to her words.

"Anything?"

Luciana’s eyes bulged, and she felt like she had just received a royal pardon after she was about to be sentenced to 20 years in prison.

"Nick!"

James, Adam, and Amirion also turned to look at Nick in shock, too frozen to speak, but before they could come back to their senses,

"His Royal Majesty and Her Grace, Empress Dowager, have arrived," a eunuch loudly announced as soon as Nicholas’ eyes flew open.

Luciana bit her lips in trepidation, her heart still drumming in her chest at the near-death experience.

She hurriedly made her way forward and bowed to show her respects to the emperor and empress dowager, not before whispering the words, "Please act along" to Nick.

"You may rise," the emperor said and added after a beat,

"The eldest prince is bedridden and has been unconscious for days; why did the princess consort not report such a grave matter to me?" The emperor’s voice was stern.

"Yes, Princess Consort, I didn’t think you’d hide something like that from us. I also received news from the other concubines that you have refused to allow them to come near the prince and have hogged all his time and attention to yourself. You cannot do as you please just because you’re the main wife," the empress dowager reprimanded.

"It was I who told my wife to keep the information of my ill health from you. Besides, it was nothing serious. And about the concubines, the princess consort has nothing to do with it; it was all me," Nicholas’s hoarse voice, full of indulgence and dominance, said.

The emperor’s gaze moved towards the man lying on the bed, and he saw an interesting sight; Nick was staring at him with his signature aloof gaze, but one could see a hint of protectiveness within his eyes directed at the princess consort.

Nicholas wanted to sit up, but his body felt slightly heavy at the moment, making him feel weak all over; it was as if he had been lying down for a long while. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Luciana realized his hoarse voice and didn’t instruct the maids but hurriedly poured some water into a cup and brought it to Nicholas. He was feeling a little stronger now and sat up.

Luciana brought the water to his lips, and after he finished drinking the water, Luciana decided to move away.

But before Luciana could walk away, he pulled her to the bed and onto his lap, possessively wrapping his hands around her, causing both the emperor and the empress dowager to stare at his actions in shock.

Adam, James, Amirion, and all the servants present also instinctively lowered their gaze at the intimate scene. Even Luciana felt her face burning from embarrassment, but when she tried to get out of his hold, his hands felt like heavy chains binding her in place, so she gave up trying.

"Would you read the situation in the room and show some respect to your elders?" The emperor’s tone was full of dissatisfaction.

"We’re in our bedchambers; you are the ones who barged in here without being invited. You have seen it for yourself; I’m fine, so you can return to where you came from. I want to spend time with my wife," Nicholas said, and Luciana shivered at the tension.

’What was wrong with Nick today? He was acting out of turn.’

"Let her go. We need to talk," the emperor commanded authoritatively.

"Make me," Nicholas challenged, and everyone froze. The temperature in the room became downright chilly.
