Chapter 139: Don’t push it

"Luciana," he whispered.

Luciana’s heart sped up at how heavy his voice sounded, dreading what he was about to say next.

"I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have lied. I was scared," she spoke first, her tears falling.

"Shhhh...I know," he coaxed.

"My beautiful wife is too kind and thoughtful; I know you would always think about others’ safety before yours," he added.

"Yes, I’m your wife, you are my husband, I should have trusted you, I should have trusted in your judgment... Forgive me," she said against his chest.

Nick felt his heart beating fast at her words.

He never dreamt there would be a day when Luciana told him such words. Everyone thought he was cold and violent but they didn’t know everything happened because of the lies and disappointments.

"You promise you wouldn’t lie to me again?" He asked.

"I promise," she said and tried to pry herself away from him but Nicholas wouldn’t allow it.

"You must have been so worried about me," she said.

"What did you expect? My wife was unconscious for days," he said.

"Wife...Have I told you how nice that sounds whenever you call me that?" She whispered, causing Nicholas to smile.

"You are the best thing that happened to me Luciana," he confessed.

"Nick, please don’t get angry about what I’m about to say," she said and paused, feeling his warm hug turn cold the next moment.

"You...do you still have the heart to spoil this beautiful atmosphere because of him?"

"I’m sorry but can you tell me what happened to the Second Prince?"

Nicholas’ jaw clenched seeing the stubbornness in her eyes.

"Luciana, you have been unconscious for four days, but the most important thing for you after you woke up wasn’t even yourself, your husband, or your unborn baby, but it is another man?" Nicholas’s voice was calm, too calm for her to fathom.

She stepped out of his embrace, raised both of her hands, and placed them on his cheeks. Luciana was shorter than Nicholas; her whole height would only reach his chest, but as soon as she cupped his face in her hands on her tiptoes.

Nicholas, who looked angry, didn’t even know when he lowered himself to her level. He inwardly cursed himself for being such a henpecked husband but he couldn’t help it.

The next moment, her hands went behind her neck and pulled him down and kissed him like her life depended on it.

Maybe her life did depend on it but Luciana didn’t care. She sucked on his lips just for a few seconds before he allowed her entrance into his mouth.

She plunged her tongue into his mouth and kissed him imitating what he did whenever he kissed her.

Nicholas didn’t know that he would experience something so sweet after all the fear he had been feeling for the past few days. Seeing Luciana take the initiative and kiss him like that felt like he was intoxicated by the sweetest wine.

He didn’t know that there was more love within him left to give out.

He wanted to give her his everything, she was all he needed. If the world were to fall apart and she was the only person left with him he would be okay. He wouldn’t accept immortality if she wasn’t offered immortality too.

For Nicholas, it was Luciana and the rest. She was his everything.

By the time Nicholas realized it, he was dominating the kiss, he knew she was now better at this than he expected, but her pace was driving him crazy, and he wanted more.

Luciana’s head was tilted upwards and her hands had grabbed fistfuls of his hair as she pushed him towards her. She loved this feeling, she felt herself going soft in his arms.

Their kissing sounds filled the room as their breaths mingled. They broke the kiss only when Luciana couldn’t take it again.

They both breathed heavily after they broke away from the kiss. Luciana’s eyes glistened with a faint shin of tears as she stared at Nicholas as if she were in a daze.

"You know me so well, my wife, don’t you?"

Luciana smiled at his words.

"I know you kept him alive because of me so please let me have a talk with him. You can do whatever you want with him if he does something to irk you after I tell him to stay away from me," she said.

"You mean I can kill him the next time he does something like this? Do I have your permission?" He asked, his eyes locked onto her every movement.

He saw her hesitate and frown before slowly nodding.

"If he tries something like this again, you have my permission."

Nicholas’ eyes widened at her words and his heart swelled, "I’ll keep your words in mind," he said and added,

"The Second Prince is still recuperating. The emperor thinks he has left the capital for urgent business, but the truth is that he’s still here in the palace," he said, and Luciana nodded.

"Can I see him?" She asked.

"Later, let’s get you something to eat first. I can’t allow my wife and my son to starve because my wife is too caring about other people," Nicholas said.

Even though Luciana wanted to see David and assess his condition as soon as possible, she knew she couldn’t be so impatient.

"Okay, let’s eat first."

"Wait, what about the crown prince of Florendel; did something happen to him on the night of the banquet?" Luciana asked and Nicholas looked at him in surprise.

"How did you know that?" Nicholas asked back.

"Did something really happen to him? Who found him?" Luciana answered his question with another question.

’So things happened just like in her past life?’ Luciana thought, her face frowning in deep thought.

"Some palace guards found him, he is still in his assigned quarters and the imperial physicians are attending to him. I think he should be out of danger now."

"Oh good," Luciana said, but feeling Nicholas’ strange gaze on her, she cleared her throat and added.

"Dora was saying something about my brother; I didn’t pay attention then, so I just decided to ask after the thought crossed my mind again."

Nicholas didn’t believe it, but remembering her words a few moments ago about how she wouldn’t keep things away from him again he nodded, deciding to believe her this time.

"Can I check on him, too, after I see the second prince?" Luciana tentatively asked.

"Don’t push it," Nicholas said but one could tell his tone wasn’t that stern.

"Nick... In the eyes of everyone he’s my brother, won’t it be strange if I don’t go and check up on him?" Luciana reasoned looking up at him expectantly.
