Rebirth: The unfavored Princess is the Tyrant King's favorite-Chapter 26: Your highness, it’s terrible
Nicholas didn’t want to be suspicious of her, but the lower prison where he had just tortured Martha was in the same direction; what was she doing there? Was she going to find Martha?
"Forget the fact that I’m hungry. I was just scared to death by your pet just now, and this is the first thing you ask me?" She snapped at him with a hint of annoyance in her voice as she stared at the delicious food in front of her that she couldn’t devour because he was delaying. Due to her hunger, she had even forgotten who she was dealing with until his cold voice brought her back to her senses.
"What did you just say?"
She lifted her eyes from the large spread of food on the table and gulped as she locked eyes with his blank eyes as he stared at her emotionlessly, causing her heart to skip a beat.
’What kind of courage had possessed her to talk to this... this king of Hell without thinking it through?’
In her past life, she had come to discover that when Nicholas stared at you with his unreadable, emotionless gaze, it meant that he was close to switching to devil mode.
She immediately switched to cute mode and innocently batted her long lashes at him.
"Erm, the thing is I got lost trying to find the kitchen because I was so hungry. Who knew I’d meet Tiger? Hehehe." She finished her explanation by adding an awkward laugh at the end of her sentence and plastered a naive, foolish smile on her face.
Nicholas’ hawklike gaze scanned her as if he wanted to search into her soul and uncover all her secrets.
"Erm, so can we eat now?" She added and scratched her head. She saw Adam about to open his mouth to say something, and she beat him to it.
"Nick, can we eat alone without any audience, just the two of us? I want to spend time with my husband. That guard is looking at me as if he wants to skin me alive; it’s so scary," she said demurely with a fearful look on her face as she pointed at Adam, visibly trembling.
’Ha! He must be calling her a vixen in his mind, right? Serves him right for looking down on her!’ Luciana inwardly smirked.
Adam wanted to curse at Luciana but held back; he knew Nicholas would see through this fake act of the demon princess and put her in her place. He and Nicholas were like brothers who had shared real and woe; this demoness wasn’t going to break them apart with her schemes.
Nicholas stared at Luciana with a meaningful gaze and turned to look at his men, his gaze especially trained on Adam.
"You heard what she said, Leave us," he declared.
Adam: "..."
Adam was in disbelief. ’Didn’t Prince Nicholas see that this witch was trying to come between them?’
"Your Highness, are you going to believe..."
"Don’t make me repeat myself, Adam," Nicholas interrupted him, and Adam, although reluctant, clamped his mouth shut and respectfully turned to leave.
"She’s a witch; she did it on purpose!" Adam said when he reached Peter and Paul, they both looked at the poor guy and shook their heads at his cluelessness.
"Sigh—they had already seen just how smitten the prince was by a woman for their first time serving under him."
Seeing Adam’s black face as he walked away, Luciana inwardly felt happy. It felt like she had appeased her past self. A subtle smile formed on her lowered face as she tried to hide her happiness from him.
Nicholas, who had seen through her schemes, stared at her with a deep look in his eyes and asked,
"Are you happy now? Why are you picking on Adam when you just met him?"
Luciana’s wide eyes stared at him, and she gulped. ’Did Nicholas see through her act?’
Batting her lashes like an adorable kitten, she said in a coquettish voice.
"He was the one who was glaring at me when I was innocently minding my own business. Who told him to treat me as if I’m a troublemaker when I’m so gentle and beautiful?..."
Feeling his gaze getting more intense as he stared at her, the rest of Luciana’s words stuck in her throat as her cheeks became hot from the intensity of his gaze. It made her feel as if she was blowing her own horn.
’What did she just say? Gentle and beautiful? He knew she was indeed beautiful, but when did she become gentle?’
"Eat and stop finding unnecessary trouble; Adam is my trusted guard; don’t get on his bad side," Nicholas said.
Luciana pouted, feeling aggrieved that Nicholas was scolding her. Why was he so obsessed with her but so dense at the same time? In a moment like this, shouldn’t he take her side?
"Then tell him not to look at me as if I’m some troublemaker vixen trying to seduce you," she mumbled under her breath in a whiny voice. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
"Would you focus on eating and stop causing trouble?" he asked agitatedly.
"I’m your wife; shouldn’t you take my side?" She said, her teary eyes that looked like she was on the verge of crying glaring at him as she threw a tantrum.
"I can’t take your side in this case; you are in the wrong," he said in a matter-of-fact tone.
Luciana stared at the clueless man in front of her and didn’t know why women admired him and wanted to be married to him. Maybe they were just attracted to his handsome face and didn’t care about his aloofness and the vicious rumors surrounding him.
Even though she didn’t like him scolding her, she decided to quietly eat her meal and not cause any more trouble. As they continued to eat in silence, the sound of hurried footsteps approached them, and Paul, who looked flustered, entered the dining hall.
"Your Highness, it’s terrible; a maid pushed Lady Evelyn, attempting to cause her to miscarry; she is currently in very bad shape; the imperial physician has been summoned," Paul reported.
Luciana felt her heart skip a beat at those words; she had a strong suspicion that Lady Evelyn’s fall would surely have to do with her. Before Nicholas could ask for details, Luciana asked first,
"What is the name of the maid?" Eunuch Paul wanted to ask the princess consort if she was serious; Lady Evelyn was in danger of miscarrying the royal seed, but all she could think of was the name of the maid.
Nicholas also turned to look at her, not understanding why she would ask such a question.
"Well? Answer me," she commanded authoritatively, causing Paul to feel intimidated by the sudden chilling aura she was exuding.
"I don’t know her name, but from the whispers, she is the princess consort’s maid," Peter said.
"Dora!" Luciana yelled and ran out, forgetting about keeping her composure. Nicholas also followed, surprised at why she was behaving in such a way.
