Chapter 82: Flashback: Tell me...

The atmosphere was charged with electricity as both of them stared into each other’s eyes, battling against desires and rationality.

Nicholas gulped, feeling her soft breasts pressed against him. She was dressed in flimsy robes made for sleeping, and he couldn’t help but notice how thin the strings holding them together were. He could easily rip it off just by using a little bit of force.

He wanted to kiss her, but he didn’t want to force her into it; the thought that he was even thinking like that surprised him.

He had always liked taking things by force, and that had been his intention when he decided to come and see her.

Ever since he saw the new bride of his brother, he couldn’t describe it, but she had awakened a feeling of possessiveness within him. He had just set his eyes on her, but he wanted her...he wanted her for himself.

Ever since she parted ways with them and he had denied his brother’s request for the first time in his life, thoughts of her had plagued his mind.

Even when he thought he should stay away from her because his feelings for her were an abomination, he couldn’t control himself and had come to find her.

Their lips had just grazed each other when Luciana rolled over and jumped away from the bed, her heart drumming in her chest from what she had just done.

"Get out!" She said in a low voice but full of determination... she meant it.

"I’m sorry," he whispered, also coming to his senses. This was wrong on all levels.

"I hope this is the last time his highness visits my chambers at odd hours," she spat, her voice full of warning and fury.

"I’m sorry for doing this when I knew it was wrong, but I’m not sorry about how I feel. I know you can feel it too, the connection between us. I can’t explain it, but ever since I saw you, I can’t seem to erase you from my mind," he said, running his fingers through his hair in frustration, a look of disappointment on his face.

Luciana’s face was filled with shock and disbelief at his confession. Nicholas stood up from the bed and approached her, but she took hurried steps to get away from him.

"Don’t come near me!" She said firmly.

"I think I’m in love with you," he added, the look in his eyes seeming desperate yet sinful as if beckoning her to fall into his sinful embrace.

"That’s why I think you should choose me instead, my brother... He would soon become the emperor and soon have a harem. He would begin to neglect you and thrust you into a world full of scheming and backstabbing, but I promise you... Even though I won’t be a king, I will place the world at your feet."

Nick saw the reaction on Luciana’s face and wondered if this Luciana in front of him would be worn over so simply. He couldn’t deny that Nicholas’ allure and his charm were quite tempting and hard to resist, but he knew just how principled Luciana was, and she wasn’t someone who would swoon at those words.

Luciana stared at him wide-eyed; why was he acting like this? He was frightening her with his intense gaze, which was like whirlpools sucking her in, and his crazy words.

She lowered her gaze, too flustered by his words. Her breath hitched when he appeared in front of her again and held both her shoulders, asking her to face him.

"Look at me, Luciana," he demanded, his voice barely above a whisper. Luciana raised her gaze to look into those captivating eyes again. She held her breath, her heart thumping with nervousness when his velvety smooth voice uttered,

"Be with me, Luciana; belong to me, and I will make you the wealthiest woman in Gloryland; I will give you jewelry you can’t use up all your life and maids and servants to wait on your every whim; I will pamper you till you lack for nothing."

"No," Luciana refused.

"I can’t do that; my marriage to your brother is going to save my people from being constantly abused and treated as monsters. The people of Zubrekacadesh need me. I can only be Crown Prince David’s consort, and I must later become his empress; it’s the only way," she yelled.

’Zubrekacadesh? Was Luciana a princess of Zubrekacadesh? Wasn’t that the country everyone despised? Wait, that wasn’t the most important thing; he should focus on watching the show,’ Nick thought.

He was still watching everything since it seemed that was the reason why he was here in this timeline. He must have been purposefully sent here to see the love story between another him and Luciana. Nicholas’ eyes dangerously narrowed.

"Are you saying you would consider my proposal if I’m the crown prince?" He asked and added,

"I’m going to become the crown prince; I would even become the emperor tomorrow if you wish, so tell my brother you won’t go through with the wedding tomorrow. Marry me instead, and I promise you will be the only woman in my harem," he said with such intensity and seriousness that every muscle on his face revealed he meant every word.

"No," Luciana’s tone was resolute.

"All my life I have hoped for the day my country folks become free from stigmatization. I can’t give my people the freedom that was gained from bloodshed. From betraying my husband..."

"He’s not your husband," Nicholas cut her off.

"There won’t be any betrayal, so choose me instead; marry me, Luciana." His voice was full of anguish, causing his words to come out as a growl.

"No... I can’t. The moment I agreed to represent my people and my parents signed that peace treaty, I was his, and I will only belong to him till I die," she said valiantly, like a brave soldier.

Nicholas’s face looked like it had been dipped in ice; his gaze looked so cold, like an iceberg, and so chilling that Luciana felt cold all of a sudden.

"Ever since you began to speak, all you have spoken about is your duty. Never once have you said you don’t want me...That you don’t want this... whatever is happening between us," he said in a hoarse voice, gesturing between them.

"Tell me, Luciana, tell me that you didn’t feel anything when you first saw me and we locked gazes; tell me you didn’t feel anything when our lips grazed. Tell me you don’t want me to appear in front of you ever again, and I will leave. I will erase everything... Just tell me you don’t love me..."
