Chapter 84: Flashback: Get my wife

After that fateful night when Nicholas left Luciana’s chambers, the world seemed to shift. Just two days later, amidst hopes for the future and unseen doubts, the marriage ceremony between Luciana and David was held. And in what felt like the blink of an eye, two swift years passed by.

Nicholas kept his word and didn’t appear in front of Luciana. If it wasn’t an event that caused them to be in the same location or the same room, there was absolutely no contact between them.

But anytime they met, one could feel how the atmosphere surrounding them crackled with tension and electricity. It was evident in the lingering glances that only she and Nicholas could understand, each one layered with unspoken secrets.

What they hadn’t realized was that David had already noticed the strange atmosphere between them but had kept it to himself. Instead, he acted like an overly pampering and attentive husband to Luciana in public, especially when Nicholas was present.

But inwardly he was immensely jealous. He could see the longing in their eyes anytime they stared at each other.

Also, in the past two years, Nicholas was hardly present in the palace; he was on a quest to find answers about his origins. The reason he had never been interested in the throne was because the whispers of him being a bastard had long reached his ears.

He naturally believed it because of the glaring truth: he looked different from the other members of the royal family. He could also tell that there was something powerful and dangerous within him.

At first, he was quite surprised that the emperor still doted on him despite the rumors, but he soon realized the emperor was doing everything for the public to see what a good father he was.

He was just putting on a show of a loving father-son relationship for the people of Gloryland. His father had never loved him. What made him certain of this theory was when the emperor revoked his position as commander of the army without any tangible reason—the emperor was wary of him.

Within these two years, his second brother, David, had also begun to drift away from him. Their previous strong bond had weakened, putting a strain on their close friendship.

Nicholas sometimes blamed himself for what happened due to the guilt and demons in his mind and the fact that he still wanted his brother’s wife.

His feelings for Luciana had made him begin to avoid David. Especially since any time he and David tried to have a conversation, he would bring up discussions about his relationship with Luciana and torment him.

On his recent travels outside Gloryland, Nicholas, together with his right-hand man, had been ambushed by assassins, something that Nicholas found strange because he was no longer the commander of the army, and his enemies were mostly foreign people.

But he had realized the assassins seemed to know him from his days as an army commander; their sword fighting skills looked too similar to that of the Gloryland army. He didn’t want to believe it, but the only plausible explanation was that it was either the emperor or David who was behind the assassination attempt, but he was unwilling to believe it.

Luckily, due to his supernatural strength, he had managed to kill them all and save himself, but that couldn’t be said for his right-hand man and close aide, James. James was severely wounded and needed urgent medical attention. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

Nicholas knew he had to save James at all costs and had ventured into the mountains of the holy saints, a small town on the borders of the Zubrekacadesh kingdom.

There, he met Master Kendrick, a healer who had saved James’s life. Master Kendrick was also a spiritual master and the head of the village. On the day they decided to depart from the mountainous village, Master Kendrick asked to speak to Nicholas alone in secret.

"My prince, when you first arrived here in the village, I noticed a strong aura surrounding you, and at first, I had wanted to mind my own business, but I think the deities created you this way because you have a destiny to fulfill, so I want to help you," Master Kendrick said when they were alone.

He had created a soundproof barrier around them because most of the villagers had sharp hearing. Nicholas’ eyes narrowed at his words.

’All this while he had been searching for answers but found none; could it be that he was finally going to get an answer?’

"What do you think is wrong with me? Why do you want to help me?" He asked, his gaze skeptical.

"I can see a powerful seal has been placed on you. Seeing how strong it is, I am certain it was placed on you during birth to prevent your full supernatural abilities from manifesting," he said.

"A seal has been placed on me? Why would someone do that? Besides, I think I’m already stronger than all the people blessed with supernatural strength in the Windermere continent; I can even say my full supernatural abilities have manifested, so pardon me if I don’t believe you," Nicholas said.

"It’s because you were born an anomaly. The gift of supernatural strength is not the only gift you were born with. You were born with countless magical gifts; I can even say you were born with all the gifts because they are countless," Master Kendrick said, his gaze scanning him as if he were some sort of treasure.

"All the gifts?" Nicholas asked in a low voice full of surprise. For the first time in his life, he was acting human and showing such emotions on his face.

"Yes, let me count what I see on the seal," Master Kendrick said, his gaze fixed on Nicholas’ forehead, and began to call them out.

"You have super strength, super speed, and control over all the four elements—fire, water, earth, and wind. Gift of disguise, enhanced eyesight, and hearing; you also have healing abilities. That is what I can read on the seal for now," Master Kendrick said, his eyes looking shiny as if he had discovered a gold mine.

"I... I really have all those gifts that you just talked about?" Nicholas asked, stammering.

"Of course, you do, and I can help you lift the seal, but I will need your total dedication and at least two years’ commitment to breaking the seal because after I help you break the seal within one year, you must use another one year to learn how to control it; otherwise, it will be like unleashing evil into the world if I leave you alone with such power," Master Kendrick concluded.

After hearing everything Master Kendrick said, Nicholas felt as if his head was spinning with all the information he had just learned.

He didn’t need so much power churning within him and at his disposal, but like Master Kendrick said, his ability might have been given to him to serve a greater purpose, so he must recover it.

’Luciana—he cannot stay away from Luciana for two years. He must try to convince Luciana to come with him. Maybe after his absence for the past months, she might agree to come with him,’ he thought.

"I understand, Master Kendrick; I need to go and get my wife. I will return with her and be a disciple under you and receive your guidance," Nicholas said, and Master Kendrick nodded.

"Sure, being with your family during the training time would be best because I can tell you a fact: breaking the seal would be one arduous task. Family is everything. I will be waiting for your return; don’t take too long.

"Thank you for everything you have done for my friend and me; I’m grateful," Nicholas said, and they finally parted ways.

Nicholas returned to Gloryland full of hope and in high spirits. He had just entered the city gates when he saw an appalling scene in the capital.

A woman was sitting on the ground with her hair scattered messily around her, and she was being beaten in the market by a man who seemed to be a merchant.

The crowd gathered around them, watching and whispering amongst themselves, but no one stepped in to intervene.

The abuser lifted his hand high up into the skies and lowered it to strike the woman again when she lifted her gaze to glare at him, causing her hair to fall at her sides and exposing her face.

"Luciana?" Nicholas whispered, his eyes widening.

"Stop!" His authoritative voice boomed across the market, causing everyone to freeze.
