Rebirth: The Universe's Hidden Heiress-Chapter 133: Backstab (2)
Chapter 133: Backstab (2)
Toru and Kimiko, after leaving, saw a large group arrive to capture them. This made them realize the boldness and risk of their decision; they could have easily lost their lives. They were grateful for Yuka’s help.
Toru opened his opticomputer and quietly submitted an application to join the Stellar Corps.
Turning to Yuka, he said, "Yuka, thank you. I want to join the Stellar Corps too. I can work on repairing and modifying mechas. Would that be okay?"
Yuka smiled at him, "Of course, the Stellar Corps welcomes you."
The butler quickly approved Toru’s application.
Kimiko, who didn’t meet the joining criteria, thought for a moment and then said to Yuka, "Thank you, Yuka. When I become a historian, I’ll definitely write a book about you, to share your story with future generations!"
Yuka responded, "...There’s no need for that."
As the Lev moved several streets away from Central Square, Yuka instructed Black One to drop her off, while Toru and Kimiko were to be taken to the black market area.
She had to return to the hotel.
The royal family, failing to find them and unable to stop the screen’s automatic playback, started to panic. They immediately planned to contact Humphrey to use the academy’s technology to track down Toru and the others.
However, the royal family didn’t receive any response from Humphrey, and later, they were deeply stung by an announcement from the academy.
Ten minutes earlier, shortly after Kimiko left, Tanaka arrived at the Alliance’s academy and found Humphrey locked in a laboratory. Tanaka waited until all evidence was released in Central Square, and he even showed it to all academy staff.
Ignoring Humphrey’s frantic protests, the academy staff broke into his office and found even more evidence than what Toru had uncovered. They were shocked to realize that what they had believed was wrong, and the wrongly accused had been maligned.
The truth deeply affected the researchers, who were devoted to science and truth. They dragged Humphrey out of the lab, angrily demanding him to admit his crimes, and subdued him with a sedative as he struggled. ƒгeewebnovёl.com
Many long-time academy workers were reminded of how they had similarly treated Nori, feeling a deep sense of guilt. Someone quietly asked, "Can anyone contact Nori, perhaps get him back to the academy? We owe him an apology..."
Tanaka sighed, "I don’t know where he is now, but we must correct our mistakes and not betray the spirit of science." He added, "I’ll post these evidences and our apology on the interstellarnet. What do you think?"
There were no objections from the staff.
Two minutes later, the previously silent official account of the Alliance’s academy posted a message that sharply turned against the royal family.
The Alliance Academy’s official account stated:
All evidence displayed on Central Square is true.
The transaction between Humphrey, the royal family, and the space pirates is real, with evidence attached below.
Humphrey has been stripped of his position as the dean of the Alliance Academy and is barred from entering the academy henceforth.
We will soon hand him over to law enforcement and provide a proper explanation to everyone. At the same time, the Alliance Academy sincerely apologizes for the disaster caused a century ago in the Queen’s incident and offers a heartfelt apology to the wrongly accused former Vice Dean (Assistant Dean) Nori.
We promise never to conduct experiments that endanger the Alliance and will provide all technological assistance for the war against the insectoids.
We will restore Nori’s position and get him back!
Below the text were over a hundred images, more evidence than what was shown on Central Square.
With such overwhelming evidence, except for a few stubborn individuals, everyone understood that Humphrey and the royal family’s crimes were undeniable.
The Academy’s action was a resounding slap to the royal family, turning their previous statement into a joke. The royal family, caught off guard, quickly deleted their article and didn’t dare to make another statement.
Those who had previously saved screenshots of the royal family’s clarification were not going to let them off easily. There was a movement to boycott anything related to the royal family, with many people even gathering outside the palace and the homes of former nobles, demanding apologies.
In the comments of the Academy’s post, people were not quick to forgive. Someone asked the question on everyone’s mind, "Why didn’t you tell the truth earlier? If it weren’t for those two brave students revealing the facts, would you have continued to hide it?"
Tanaka saw this question and sighed inwardly. After a long hesitation, he didn’t reply. He thought to himself, ’Because we were afraid to speak, and we couldn’t.’
The three powers of that time concealed the truth from the public for their own interests, and later, the three powers continued the concealment for the same reason.
None of the three factions were innocent; revealing the truth would harm all of them.
They didn’t know which side the public would lean towards and didn’t want to give the other two factions any advantage. So, they chose to remain silent in tacit agreement.
All of them hoped this part of history would never be discovered, allowing them to remain beneficiaries of the situation, thinking, ’If everyone is fine, then all is well.’
Some ordinary people who had witnessed history knew the truth but dared not speak out, fearing for their own lives and the lives of their loved ones. Perhaps some tried to reveal this history, but before they could act, they were suppressed by one of the three powers.
Not everyone had the courage and advantageous circumstances of Toru and Kimiko. They were fearless and fortunate, with a convergence of favorable conditions: the insectoid invasion, the Alliance Army being preoccupied, the diminished status and influence of the royal family, the academy’s collusion with space pirates, assistance from influential people, and an ideal location for action where they didn’t have to fear control by the interstellarnet. This combination enabled them to accomplish what others could not.
Tanaka, upon learning that the royal family hadn’t captured anyone and that his granddaughter was temporarily safe, let out a weary sigh of relief.
Yuka, back at the hotel, was surprised at how cooperative the academy had been.
Holding her opticomputer, she saw the growing calls on the interstellarnet for Humphrey to be publicly tried and increasing support for the proposal to abolish the royal family. She realized that even if the royal family didn’t disappear, it would be greatly weakened and eventually fade away.
In the palace, the Emperor furiously said to those around him, "Don’t admit to anything! What do the actions of our predecessors have to do with us? So what if there were dealings with space pirates, will the Alliance Army dare to arrest us? They won’t! The royal family will stand forever!"
Fred, looking at the objects scattered on the floor, watched his usually kind and dignified father, and his mother who was holding him and crying incessantly, feeling as if he had fallen into an ice pit.
He now wondered if the royal family he loved and respected was really so flawed.
