Chapter 137: Continuous Battle (1)

It has been a week since the front line was hit by the insectoid invasion.

Kenji spent two days handling work at the Alliance Army headquarters. Then, ignoring other people’s advice, he left trusted subordinates to guard Capital Octoxis and returned to the dangerous front line himself.

Yuka’s Stellar Corps had been training on a training planet for a week.

Not wanting them to follow her to a certain death, Yuka demanded strict training. She gradually increased the intensity to maximize everyone’s strength. The training was so tough that it made them cry out in exhaustion. Yet, even in such conditions, no one left the Stellar Corps.

Yuka sometimes joined them for training. She divided a group into two teams, leading one against the other in simulated battles. Everyone was stunned by her monstrous stamina. Each day, they grew more amazed by Yuka’s strength, realizing she had surpassed human limits. This greatly boosted their confidence in killing the Queen.

The team became increasingly immersed in killing insectoids on the virtual battlefield, practicing combat, and rushing for food after training.

During this week, Yuka almost daily received messages from Kenji at the front line. Besides everyday chatter, she learned much about the front-line situation from Kenji.

With mechas made by Pneyon, those with high physical strength but low psychic power could join the battle, significantly boosting combat power. This time, the response to the insectoid was timely, and a defense line was established early. So far, the insectoids had not broken through the front line to invade the Alliance.

However, the Queen had not yet appeared.

The Alliance prison had delivered the interrogation results of Humphrey. He confessed to all his crimes and revealed that he had modified the insectoids’ genes, causing evolution and mutation. The soldier insectoids that could emit sound waves were his creation.

Moreover, flying insectoids had also evolved. They could travel through space like spaceships, easily moving from one planet to another, greatly increasing the threat of the insectoids.

Humphrey had also tried to make two Queens mature at the same time but failed. As the Queen held the highest position in insectoid society and was the mother of all insectoids, only one Queen larva could mature, giving birth to other insectoids and controlling them.

Yuka thought it was fortunate that Humphrey didn’t succeed. One Queen was already a disaster; she couldn’t imagine the havoc two Queens would bring to humanity.

Humphrey also mentioned that he extracted a solution from a Queen about to mature. If applied to mechas, it could temporarily affect the insectoids’ judgment, preventing them from attacking and allowing some control over them. According to his theory, this control would become more pronounced once the Queen fully matured. However, he only managed to extract a small amount of the fluid before being imprisoned.

Yuka immediately recalled the liquid Bartland gave to Kenji on the training planet, which had caused Kenji’s sudden illness. It must have been extracted from the Queen.

Yuka warned Kenji to be careful. Kenji, also realizing this, stayed close to his mecha on the battlefield to avoid vulnerability.

On the front lines, space pirates were indeed attempting to wear down the Alliance Army. They knew that if they prolonged the battle, the Alliance forces would eventually tire, allowing the pirates to break through their defenses and invade the Alliance.

While the Queen had not yet been found, once she left her larval stage and began to mature, she would settle in one place to build a nest and lay eggs, making her less likely to move. As she grew, her size would become immense, making movement more difficult and hiding less feasible.

"The Queen must be hiding at one certain place. If the Alliance Army has enough time, we will surely find the insectoid’s nest," Kenji told Yuka.

Yuka started a video call then, and playfully asked to see Kenji’s pecs.

Kenji, blushing, put down his opticomputer.

Yuka then messaged him, "If you find the Queen’s whereabouts, tell me immediately. Ending the Queen will end the war sooner."

Kenji replied, "Be careful. Don’t take risks alone this time."

Although Yuka responded with a promise and a kiss emoji, she knew in her heart that if the Queen went rampaging, the situation would be extremely dangerous. She might still confront the Queen alone, keeping Kenji in the dark. If death was inevitable, she preferred it to be hers alone, not dragging Kenji into it.

However, when everyone thought the space pirates were planning a war of attrition, that night, countless flying insectoids quietly entered the planet guarded by the Alliance Army and launched a surprise attack.

These insectoids carried many newly hatched eggs from the Queen, hovering in the sky and dropping them into the Alliance Army’s ranks.

The eggs burst upon hitting the ground, releasing other insectoids that immediately attacked the surrounding Alliance forces, plunging the scene into chaos.

The aerial attack by the flying insects was unprecedented, catching the Alliance Army completely off guard. It was at this moment that Kenji realized the true horror of the insectoid evolution Humphrey had mentioned.

Kenji quickly ordered the activation of emergency lights to illuminate the battlefield. This helped the soldiers see and avoid friendly fire.

Despite his rapid response and organized defense, the Alliance Army struggled against the overwhelming number of insectoids, sustaining significant damage.

Just as they were gaining the upper hand against the insectoids, a group of mecha pilots appeared on the scene.

An Alliance Army soldier, recognizing the familiar mechas, joyfully shouted, "Reinforcements have arrived!"

However, Kenji, observing this group, felt something was amiss. These were indeed Alliance Army mechas, complete with identification numbers, but he hadn’t received any notification of reinforcements, and these arrivals didn’t report in.

His suspicions were confirmed when this group suddenly turned on the Alliance Army, revealing their true identity: they were space pirates.

Humphrey had sold the design of the Alliance Army’s mechas to the pirates, who had replicated them so precisely that they even copied the identification numbers.
