Rebirth: The Universe's Hidden Heiress-Chapter 140: Kenji Got Sick (2)
Chapter 140: Kenji Got Sick (2)
"Admiral Kuba!"
Kenji’s collapse sent everyone into panic.
The space pirate’s mecha, responsible for the attack, was severely damaged by the crew.
The Alliance’s soldiers were unaware of what the enemy had thrown. Witnessing Kenji losing connection with his mecha for the first time, they rushed in chaos.
A subordinate pushed through the crowd, extracting Kenji from the cockpit and rushing him to the medical bay at the frontline’s rear.
Kenji, always their pillar, had fallen. Although a new Admiral swiftly took over command, unease grew among the ranks.
The medical team, alarmed by Kenji’s wildly erratic vital signs, administered a painkiller, standing helplessly aside.
The subordinate, in a state of frenzy, paced beside Kenji’s bed, thinking about what to do. This attack was worse than any before. The painkillers were ineffective, and Kenji was losing consciousness.
Suddenly, he remembered someone.
Rushing to Kenji’s opticomputer, he apologized inwardly and clicked on it. Then he quickly unlocked it, found Yuka’s contact, and made a frantic call for help.
On the training planet, Yuka, commanding the Stellar Corps in a mock battle, paused as the butler spoke in her mind, "Master, Kenji is calling."
Ever since Yuka and Kenji started dating, the butler started calling Kenji by his name and its attitude wasn’t as good as before.
Yuka was a bit angry. She was about to tell the butler not to answer Kenji’s call when she heard the butler say, "Master, he sent another message. He says: ’Commander Taira, help! Admiral Kuba is sick again, and it’s really bad this time!’"
Yuka and the butler were stunned for a second. Then, Yuka turned and dashed through the dense forest map. As she ran, she spoke to the butler, "Contact my dad. Ask him to arrange the fastest spaceship. I need to go to the frontline!"
"And," Yuka continued in her mind, speaking to the butler, "ask my dad if Nori has any medicine for Kenji’s illness."
The butler quickly sent Yuka’s instructions to Hideki. Hideki replied swiftly, "Nori says no, but he has pain relief medicine. He wants you to bring Kenji to his lab. He has something to tell you."
The butler saved Nori’s contact and address in Yuka’s opticomputer.
Hideki, true to his reputation as the wealthiest, booked the closest luxury spaceship to the training planet. It arrived at the transfer station a minute before Yuka, waiting for her to board.
Yuka sprinted onto the ship and opened her opticomputer to return Kenji’s call. Kenji’s subordinate answered quickly. Yuka, anxious, asked, "How is Kenji? Is it serious?"
The subordinate, not daring to delay or lie, told her the truth, "The boss is in bad shape. He’s unconscious, convulsing, and his body’s readings are all abnormal."
Yuka felt her heart being squeezed, throbbing with pain. She steadied her breathing and quickly told the subordinate, "Give him more painkillers. Don’t use any other medicine before I get there."
After ending the call, Yuka clenched her teeth and rushed into the spaceship’s cockpit. She sat in the co-pilot’s seat and told the captain, "Go as fast as possible. I need to reach the frontline immediately!"
The captain, paid triple the fee, accelerated to maximum speed, reducing a journey of several hours to just two.
As soon as the hatch opened, Yuka dashed out, asking the subordinate who came to meet her, "Where’s Kenji?"
The subordinate hurriedly took Yuka to the medical department. Seeing Kenji on the bed, pale and sweating, Yuka almost couldn’t breathe with heartache.
She gently pushed Kenji’s mobile bed out of the medical department and turned to the subordinate, "You go start the spaceship. I’m taking Kenji somewhere he can be treated."
In the Alliance, on a remote star...
"Master, an unknown threat has entered. Three humans, two men and a woman, and one of them seems weak," the robot tapped Nori’s leg, reminding him again.
Nori put down the medicine bottle, annoyed, and said to it, "Open the door, let them in."
Outside, Yuka was eyeing the large metal door, thinking about breaking in violently, when it opened from the inside. She quickly pushed Kenji’s bed, running into the underground lab.
Kenji’s subordinate, following behind, was about to step forward, but the metal door slammed shut mercilessly in front of him, leaving him outside.
The robot led the way swiftly in front of Yuka. She, pushing Kenji, followed it through a maze of corridors, finally reaching Nori’s lab.
Seeing Nori’s back, Yuka shouted, "Nori, save Kenji, I’ll pay you, whatever research funds you need!"
Nori’s forehead vein throbbed. He turned, blocked Kenji’s rushing bed with his hand, and took out a blue potion and a syringe from his pocket. After a quick disinfection, he injected Kenji.
Kenji, who had been breathing heavily and convulsing on the bed, immediately calmed down. Yuka, seeing Kenji was fine, collapsed weakly into a chair nearby, letting out a breath, and said weakly to Nori, "Thank you."
"Your dad already paid me for the research," Nori, hands in pockets, told Yuka, "You don’t need to pay more. What I need to tell you now is, this medicine doesn’t help his disease much. It only eases his pain temporarily, and brings back his consciousness for twelve hours."
Before Yuka could speak, Nori continued, "Kenji’s illness has things to do with the Queen. Since your friend has investigated and found that Humphrey conducted human experiments, you must know that Kenji was one of the subjects. His body was injected with many of the Queen’s cells. It’s surprising he hasn’t mutated and died yet. He’s very resilient."
Nori turned, picked up another blue potion from the table, threw it to Yuka, and said, "You should also know, the Queen controls its insect offspring using psychic power, right?"
Yuka caught the potion Nori threw and slowly shook her head.
In her last life, indeed, some had tried to invade the Queen’s brain, to cut off its connection with other insects, but all failed. In their Martial World, those who cultivated had their own spiritual awareness. But the Queen had her own too, very strong, and no one could invade her psychic realm; she kills any invaders as soon as she found out.
Yuka pondered, ’Spiritual Awareness and psychic power... are they related?’
