Chapter 63: Yuka Passed Out (1)

In the control room, Kenji leaned forward, staring at the screen with a growing sense of excitement in his chest, anticipating Yuka’s demonstration of her true capabilities.

Deep in the no man’s land, Yuka took a deep breath. She raised her mechanical arm, firing two consecutive shots at the swarming parasite insectoids in front of her. The parasites were numerous, and even though Yuka’s shooting was imprecise, as long as she didn’t fire into the sky, she could blast many of them, making them disintegrate into streams of data.

Due to the lack of sufficient cooling time, the barrel of her gun started to overheat. Firing another shot would risk an explosion. The leading parasites had already clung to Yuka’s mechanical legs.

Glancing back at Ayoi and the others, Yuka noticed they had run far away, reaching a safe distance. freewёbnoνel.com

Yuka turned and stepped on a parasite trying to crawl past her, then slowly moved to block the path of the others, allowing most of them to climb onto her mecha. The parasites wrapped around the surface of the mecha, forcing their limbs into the joints and causing Yuka’s mecha to tilt and kneel on the street.

"What is she trying to do?" Kenji frowned, pressing his hand on the controller, ready to remind Yuka not to attempt suicide by doing nothing, which would be considered as a negative approach to the test.

In Yuka’s view, her health bar kept dropping continuously, about to hit the last segment.

Boom—Boom—

Two more cannon shots rang out. The parasites blocking the barrel were blasted away, hitting their companions.

The overheated barrel had reached its limit. Yuka forcefully pulled her mechanical arm, directing it towards her cockpit amidst the enveloping parasites.

The parasites on the cockpit slowly turned their heads.

Kenji, in the control room, widened his eyes slightly.

Boom!

The final cannon shot was aimed at Yuka herself, or rather, the parasite insectoids on her mecha.

Watching the barrel and the cannon fire explode together, Yuka saw the parasites scatter with the fragments of her mecha, her health bar suddenly dropping to zero.

Without breaking any rules, she had eliminated many parasites and achieved her goal of being eliminated from the test with just a passing score of sixty.

That was out of everyone’s expectation.

Yuka, knowing Kenji was watching, curled her lips in a slight smirk of triumph. But before she could see the message of her elimination, a sharp pain struck her temple, her whole head reeling as if someone had fired a cannon at her brain.

Yuka’s vision was filled with a chaotic halo of lights before it suddenly turned into an endless blackness.

The next moment, she passed out.

In the control room, Kenji switched the screen to monitor the white classroom, eager to see Yuka’s reaction after emerging from the training pod and how she would act.

One minute passed, then three, but Yuka hadn’t come out of the training pod.

Kenji, growing anxious, opened the usage report of the training pod and found that Yuka was still lying inside, all indicators normal.

Pushing open the door of the control room, Kenji hurried towards the training pods, heading to Yuka’s pod, ready to pull her out for a stern talking-to.

Other students, already eliminated from the test, had left their pods and were sitting nearby, waiting for the exam to end before leaving.

Seeing Kenji’s grim expression as he walked over, they felt a chill emanating from him, shrinking back in their seats, yet curiously wondering which student had dared to provoke Mr. Kuba so much so that he had to come to fetch them.

Kenji stopped in front of Yuka’s training pod. The protective shield slowly lowered, revealing Yuka still unconscious, her brow furrowed in pain, forehead sweaty, mouth slightly open, muttering incoherently and occasionally emitting pained whimpers.

The other students watching secretly saw Mr. Kuba’s normally stern face change in an instant, showing a hint of seeming panic.

However, they quickly dismissed the thought. After all, Admiral Kuba was the Alliance’s top commander who had led numerous battles and calmly escaped encirclement by space pirates, and a person like that was unlikely to show panic so easily.

Yet, the truth was that Kenji did panic for a moment upon seeing Yuka’s pale face and trembling body.

He quickly lifted her from the training pod, wrapping her tightly in his arms, and strode out of the white classroom while calling the school’s medical center.

"Name: Yuka, 18 years old, female, fainted during the test, sweating... yes, she’s mumbling," Kenji rapidly answered the doctor’s questions. "Past medical history... I don’t know... No! I’m not her boyfriend! I’m her instructor!"

The doctor noted Yuka’s symptoms, arranged for a hospital bed and exams, and told Kenji, "Okay, bring her over, don’t panic."

After the call, the doctor rubbed his ears, muttering, "Not her boyfriend, then fine. Why yell so loud? Gosh... These young people."

As Kenji ran through the school with Yuka in his arms, she was restless in her unconscious state. Her brow was furrowed, clutching tightly at Kenji’s collar, forcing him to bow his head closer to her lips.

"Gate..." Kenji heard Yuka mutter, "the Insectoid Queen... so many people..."

He frowned slightly, holding Yuka with one arm while using his free hand to check her forehead, ensuring she didn’t have a fever.

Relieved she was not feverish, he adjusted his hold to make her more comfortable, his expression gradually relaxing.

After bringing Yuka to the hospital room, Kenji stepped outside and exhaled deeply.

His opticomputer notified him that the test was almost over, which made him realize that he had been highly tense, with his thoughts entirely focused on Yuka’s safety, neglecting everything else.

He silenced the notification and sent a message to Yonda. Yonda was doing pull-ups on the playground. As soon as he received the message, he immediately went to the white classroom’s control room to continue supervising the exam.

The students who had seen Kenji carrying someone away were buzzing with curiosity.

"Who was that? Mr. Kuba seemed really concerned about her."

"I couldn’t tell, she had long hair, definitely a girl."

"Oh my god, I wish I could have such close contact with Admiral Kuba! I’d be willing to faint for it!"

"Doesn’t anyone care how she fainted? Was it the insectoids that scared her?"

"Quiet down!" Yonda banged on the door, demanding silence.

Twenty minutes later, the test ended. The students, still curious, tried to figure out who had fainted by process of elimination.

"Where’s Yuka?" Ayoi looked confused. "Maybe she left earlier?"

Alex was also puzzled.

"She fainted!" an eager student interjected, "About half an hour ago, Mr. Kuba carried her from the training pod and rushed out, probably to the school hospital."

Ayoi and Alex exchanged glances and quickly left the room.

Meanwhile, Yuka, lost in darkness, was unaware that in the half-hour since she had fainted, numerous exaggerated versions of her story had already spread. The most accepted version was that she fainted from being overly delicate and frightened by the sheer number of insectoids.

The butler, in her mental realm, kept loudly calling her name, trying to wake her, but it didn’t work.

Yuka seemed to have entered an unknown part of her psyche, trapped in uncontrollable chaos. The butler, unable to enter that space, was frantically trying to reach her.
