Reborn; A Slave to the World-Chapter 79: Umbral Forge
Chapter 79: Umbral Forge
I can hear a hammer clanging ahead of me against metal so this forge may actually have someone who still lives within this darkness. I might be able to get some information from whoever is there working on whatever it is that they have on the forge.
Those monsters don’t seem to be around me as much as before so I shouldn’t have to worry about them. It makes me wonder how many saw what I did to the other ones that tried to approach me.
Being ruthless here is smart with the kind of environment it seems to be, I’d rather keep it like this until it is restored.
Artemis makes his way towards the forge while keeping an ear out for any possible enemies around him. Surprisingly nothing else seems to jump out at him as he finally arrived at the front of the forge where he’s greeted by a giant.
It was definitely a giant with the kind of height that it has compared to him, this was definitely a rare sight for anyone to see. Giants weren’t seen in quite some time within the actual world.
The giant was wearing a black leather apron, wielding a giant hammer and it seems to have sky blue eyes with long brown hair going past its shoulders.
I didn’t think giants were real in this world until I saw this one here in the abyss, what an interesting place. I’ve seen a lot of different things here compared to the normal world so it is definitely interesting.
"A human is here for the first time in 100 years, what a time to be alive." The giant says while lifting it’s hammer.
Clang! Clank! His hammer smashes against a piece of metal that he seems to be working on.
I know giants have quite the life span but 100 years is a long time for one to be here without a single sight of a human. Wouldn’t that mean that there hasn’t been a shadow user in that long?
I’m baffled by the thought of that since I was confident that some sort of person had to be here before me. This also proves that it isn’t just something made by the girl who’s been giving me vague responses.
This place has been around for quite some time, but it’s definitely been a lot longer than 100 years.
Artemis looks at the anvil that the giant is working on, it’s definitely massive. "That’s a long time not to see a human, or anyone for that matter." Artemis replies with a bit of a sympathetic tone to his voice.
The hammer stops before it hits the anvil. "Who are you anyway?" He asks with a curious look in his eyes.
"I’m Artemis." He introduces himself while slowly sheathing his sword.
I don’t think the giant will be an enemy that I have to worry about so I’ll keep my weapon put away for the time being. He hasn’t given me a reason to have it out and the monsters from before don’t seem like they’ll be bothering me.
"Silos. I presume you must be the new shadow wielder." He responds.
What a name for a giant but I guess they’ve always had some unique names, at least according to the history in books I’ve read. Most giants haven’t been seen in a long time... Almost as if they died out during the ages of war.
Artemis looks up at him, taking in the moment that he gets to meet and speak with a giant. "I am, I’m not sure what I am looking for here." Artemis says with a bit of a confused tone in his voice.
"Hahaha. No one ever seems to know what they are looking for here." He laughs before responding.
It’s not your average location to explore so it makes sense to me on why no one would know what to look for. The Abyss is a place of mystery in my opinion.
We’ve got to figure everything out on our own if we are going to get stronger or strong enough to make a difference. "Why is it like this here?" Artemis questions.
"The Abyss lost its king long ago so it’s been waiting for the right ruler to come along to claim the throne." Silos answers while sitting down his hammer.
Even the abyss use to have a king that rules over it— To imagine what that must’ve been like is kind of crazy, someone ruling over a place like this.
I’m definitely far from being able to rule over the abyss, especially with my current goal in the main world. Not that I was going to put myself in the shoes of a king since it doesn’t seem to be for me.
"So it’s like this because there is no one to rule over it, how interesting." Artemis says while looking around.
I didn’t think one king could make such a difference on the landscape here itself. I wonder why the girl didn’t step up to be the queen of the abyss.
She’s been helping me with the power she provides so it wouldn’t be the end of the world if she stepped up. Or maybe I’m missing something with her since I don’t have any answers to my questions.
"I don’t think you are going to be the Lord here but I know you are here in search of strength." Silos speaks with a more serious tone behind his words.
It feels kind of harsh to hear a giant say that to me, even if that’s the truth. "I’m assuming lots of others have also come in search of strength?" Artemis questions.
The giant stands up from its seat. "Many have but none ever seem to return after it’s given to them." Silos answers with a bit of disappointment in his voice.
I’ve learned more from this giant than I have the girl who gives me the help with my powers. That is kind of annoying to think about.
