Chapter 28 - VOID II

Plink! Plink!

The sound of a liquid dripping jolted Raven awake.

In the beginning, everything around him felt like a haze. His eyelids felt heavy, oh so tired. Tendrils of a sweet dream urged him embrace slumber, but no, Raven knew that he had to get a grip on himself.

After emerging victorious from a losing battle, Raven finally managed to get his eyes functional.

He felt vaguely aware of what happened to him, or precisely where he was.

"I'm in the abyss, am I not, system?"

Raven muttered out weakly.

To his dismay, his system did not come back with a deadpan like it usually did.

All Raven felt was stone cold silence.

He strained his ears, secretly hoping that the system did throw out a response.

But that seemed to be a wrong move.

The deathly stillness around him only got more pronounced, broken by his own jagged gasps and the dripping of a fluid.

Thinking that the system is probably immersed in the long game of maintaining radio silence, Raven decided to give his limbs a once over.

To his dismay, he could not locate them, all he felt was numbness.

He swore at his body to sit up straight, which seemed to be an impossible task at the moment.

Huffing and puffing, Raven managed to achieve the impossible.

He sat up straight.

Slowly his limbs came into view. They were cold, unresponsive and twisted at odd angles, especially his legs.

It seems that his hind limbs were the ones that bore the brunt of his fall.

His arms were in a better shape, although frozen stiff, at the very least they were not broken.

Raven welcomed the numb for the first time. If not for his body numb and uncooperative, the sheer pain would probably have killed him by then.

Raven wondered how the heck he was alive.

It seemed to him that he should have died long ago due to excessive blood loss.

And then it hit him.

It was his infinite mana reserve that was acting as the substitute for blood and oxygen in his body.

Raven made sure to send a mental thank you to the system.

The system did not bother responding.

Or it simply wasn't able to?

Raven decided to go with the former.

Then suddenly a massive wave of nausea crashed into him, almost making him retch.

Almost...

Raven simply had nothing in his stomach that he could puke out.

So he was safe....

At least in a way.

But instantly Raven's eyes widened in horror.

He understood why he was so dizzy.

A burning sensation enveloped his chest and throat.

Water. He needed water.

His infinite mana reserves will not be able to act as the substitute of water for long.

Plink! Plink!

The sound of water falling on the rocks cut through the silence to reach Raven's eats just at that precise moment, rendering his thirst multiply by a thousand fold.

So thirsty....

Raven knew he had to reach the water source.

If then he found out that the dripping sound was being made by something else, not water, he didn't know what he would do then.

Might as well die.

Ahh, so sleepy...

Pushing sleep far away, Raven began twisting his body to get into a comfortable position where he could move.

Standing up and walking wasn't an option, his legs wouldn't be able to bear his weight, hmph! Even stand up in his current condition.

Sighing, he somehow managed to lie down on his belly in a prone position.

Using his hands to inch forward slowly, in the direction his nose pointed slowly in a serpentine motion.

But his jerky movements lacked the elegance of a serpent.

Raven couldn't be bothered less.

Dragging his useless legs behind him, Raven slithered forward with the help of his hands, inching closer to the precious drops of water with every passing minute.

Or at least attempting to do so.
