Chapter 33: 33

Feng Yizhou glanced at her. "Do you regret it?"

"Giving Lingquan a body?" Qingran asked dryly.

"That too," he said, lips twitching slightly. "But I meant everything else."

She let out a slow breath. "Regret is useless. Whether I regret it or not, the apocalypse is still happening. People will still die. And I—"

She hesitated, then shook her head. "I just have to survive."

Feng Yizhou studied her for a moment. "Then I’ll make sure you do."

His words were quiet, but there was no doubt in them.

Lingquan stretched lazily on her shoulder, it’s blue eyes glinting. [That’s the spirit. Now, let’s talk about something important.]

Qingran shot him a look. "What now?"

[Ding! With 22 days left to the apocalypse, host has made zero collection of weapons or medical equipment. Does host intend on whiling away her time rather than stockpile?]

"....."

"Recommend places for me to get weapons here in Xi’an? Like a fire arm black market.."

Lingquan let out a dramatic sigh. [Ah, finally, some proper planning. You should’ve asked sooner.]

A translucent screen flickered into view before her, listing several locations. Some were shady underground markets, others were private dealers known to sell weapons under the table.

[Xi’an has a few decent options,] Lingquan mused. [There’s an arms dealer near the industrial district—fairly reliable, but expensive. There’s also a black-market auction happening tomorrow night. Riskier, but you might find something worthwhile.]

Qingran scanned the list, mentally sorting through her options. Money wasn’t an issue—she had long since prepared fake identities and offshore funds for emergencies but she didn’t put much inside these accounts, so going to the auction might be her best bet.

Alot of weapon dealers were going to be there, she might find one with a cheaper rate,

Feng Yizhou leaned over slightly to glance at her screen. "You’re going for firearms first?"

"Obviously," Qingran said. "Bladed weapons are useful, but guns will be harder to get once the apocalypse starts. I need them now."

He nodded. "I’ll come with you."

Qingran raised an eyebrow. "I don’t remember asking."

"You didn’t," he said simply. "But you’re going to a black-market auction. You need some backup."

Lingquan snickered. [Oho? Is this concern I hear?]

Feng Yizhou ignored him.

Qingran exhaled through her nose. She didn’t particularly want to owe him anything, but an extra set of eyes wouldn’t hurt.

"Fine," she said. "But don’t get in my way."

Feng Yizhou’s lips quirked slightly. "I wouldn’t dream of it."

Lingquan purred. [Ah, a partnership formed out of convenience. How delightfully pragmatic.]

Qingran ignored him and turned back to the glowing map.

There was still time, tomorrow they would get what they needed and be out of Xi’an.

The drive back to the hotel was quiet, the low hum of the engine filling the space between them. Qingran leaned against the window, watching the city lights blur past. The streets of Xi’an were still alive despite the late hour—neon signs flickered, and a few pedestrians lingered outside shops, chatting in hushed tones.

Feng Yizhou kept his eyes on the road, one hand on the steering wheel, the other resting casually on the gear shift. His posture was relaxed, but Qingran knew he was always alert.

Lingquan, now comfortably curled up in her lap, let out a long, exaggerated sigh. [A car ride, a nice hotel waiting for us... I could get used to this.]

Caocao, perched on the dashboard, flicked her tail. [Enjoy it while you can. In twenty-two days, comfort will be a luxury.]

Qingran exhaled through her nose. "Don’t remind me."

Feng Yizhou glanced at her. "You still want to look for weapons tomorrow?"

"Of course." Her voice was firm. "I’ll need more than just a few knives when everything collapses."

He nodded. "I have a contact here. I’ll set up a meeting."

Qingran raised an eyebrow. "A contact?"

"I’ve been preparing for this longer than you have," he reminded her. "I had a feeling something like this would happen."

She studied his profile for a moment. There was no arrogance in his tone, just simple fact. Feng Yizhou had never been the type to move without reason.

Lingquan stretched, yawning. [You two are a little too serious for my taste.]

Caocao cast him a glance. [That’s because they’re planning to survive, not lounge around like a spoiled house cat.]

Lingquan smirked. [Oh, but I am a spoiled house cat now.]

Qingran flicked his ear, earning an indignant meow. "Enough. We’ll finalize plans when we get to the hotel."

Feng Yizhou didn’t comment, but she caught the faintest curve of his lips as he continued driving.

Feng Yizhou parked the car in the underground garage, turning off the engine. The drive back had been quiet, both of them focused on their own thoughts.

They took the elevator up, neither speaking as the soft chime announced their arrival. When they entered the suite, the warmth of the hotel air greeted them, contrasting the cool night outside.

Feng Yizhou stretched slightly before heading toward his room. "I’ll be inside."

"Goodnight," Qingran said absently.

He gave a small nod before closing the door behind him.

Qingran didn’t move right away. She walked to the couch, sinking into the plush cushions with a tired sigh. Lingquan, in his sleek black cat form, hopped onto the coffee table, his golden eyes glinting.

"Alright," she muttered, rubbing her temple. "Tell me my real situation. What’s my progress, and how much am I lacking?"

Lingquan flicked his tail before a translucent screen appeared in front of her.
