Reborn As A Ghost: Time To Build My Undead Army!-Chapter 1777: Reunion Of Souls, One Last Goodbye
------
After finally reuniting with the soul of his beloved wife, the Heavenly Demon could not bring himself to meet her gaze.
"Zhao Yanyan..." He stared at the floor, his voice thick with pain and shame.
"Dear...!" She smiled warmly, reaching out to embrace him. "Why won't you look at me? You did it! You finally saved everyone."
"No... I saved no one," the Heavenly Demon whispered, clenching his fists as tears streamed down his face. "I couldn't protect a single soul in the end. I lost all of you... because I failed you."
"Dear..." His wife wept softly as she drifted to his side and wrapped him in her arms. "Please don't blame yourself for what happened to us. You must keep living. Protect our son... and this world."
"Mother..." Wu Lieng sobbed. "Everyone...?!"
Then more souls appeared. Wu Lieng's five younger siblings, all children between two and six years old, joined them.
"Big bro?!"
"Wow, you have a beard now, hehe."
"Papa! Mama!"
"It's so bright... Where are we?"
"My children..." The Heavenly Demon broke down completely. "I'm so sorry... I'm so sorry for everything..."
He gathered their small, glowing souls into his arms, no longer able to hold back his grief. He wept openly alongside Wu Lieng.
Maria watched the scene with a gentle smile. After rescuing Lucifer and Partner and healing their wounds, she now stood with them and her entire family.
"So that dragon devoured all these people?" Partner murmured. "That's horrible..."
"So many..." Lucifer whispered. "Where do you think they're going?"
"Hmm, maybe to reincarnate and live new lives," Nyx said from her father's side. "Maybe happier ones this time! What do you think, Mama?"
"Yes... I believe so," Maria nodded softly. "Let's hold onto that hope. Hm? Arthur?"
She noticed Arthur flying toward Wu Lieng with the old man's remaining disciples, carrying a crystal orb in his hands.
"I see..."
Wu Lieng took the orb with trembling hands and wept. Soon after, the Dhampir siblings arrived, having been summoned.
The Heavenly Demon shattered the crystal, releasing every soul trapped within.
The souls of the Blood Demon Sect.
"My beloved sect..." Wu Lieng cried. "You're finally free..."
"Master!"
"Sect Master!"
"Grandpa!"
"Big bro!"
"Hi!"
"Ooh, we're in the sky?"
The disciples—some elderly, others mere children—swarmed around Wu Lieng, his living followers, and Kim Hua. They hugged and greeted one another with joy.
One final time.
"I'm sorry for everything," Wu Lieng said, voice breaking. "I'm sorry I wasn't there for you... If only I had been..."
"No, we're glad you survived, Master."
"Yeah! It wouldn't have been right if you hadn't."
The two elders chuckled, old friends of Wu Lieng, their smiles wide despite the sorrow.
"It's because you lived that we're here now."
"I feel so relieved."
"We're heading to the afterlife, huh?"
"I wonder what it's like!"
"Ah, is that Little Black?!"
The children gasped as the giant cat approached.
He slowly shrank into a small, radiant black kitten made of pure light.
"Meow!"
Little Black purred happily, rubbing against his family. They petted him, lifted him, and kissed his tiny forehead, laughing through their tears.
And among them...
"Little Blackie?"
A boy with black hair gazed at his cat.
"Meow!"
Little Black looked utterly content, finally reunited with his dearest friend.
With his owner, the boy he had vowed to protect forever.
"Blackie!"
Feng Xian giggled, scooping the kitten into his small arms.
Little Black purred deeply, kneading the boy's shirt with blissful contentment.
"Heheh! You're still such a baby, huh?"
As the boy laughed, Little Black's ghostly aura began to fade.
"Feng Xian..." Wu Lieng stepped forward. "I'm sorry I wasn't there for you... I—"
"It's okay!" Feng Xian interrupted, brows furrowed in earnest. "I'm just happy you gave me Blackie, Master! Thank you so much! Without him, I felt so lonely, hehe."
"Oh, my boy..." Wu Lieng pulled him close, tears falling onto the child's shoulder. "I hope your next life is filled with joy. I wish you every happiness."
"What about Little Black?" one of the living disciples asked quietly. "Is he staying, or...?"
"He has released his phantasmal energy," Kim Hua explained gently. "It means he has no lingering attachments. He will pass on peacefully."
"I see..." Wu Lieng turned to his disciple. "But what about you? Why haven't you...?"
"I still have my bonds with all of you," Kim Hua replied with a soft laugh. "I can't leave yet. You're all a mess, and you clearly need me."
Some chose to linger, while others, having reunited with loved ones, prepared to depart.
Little Black and Feng Xian smiled up at the brilliant white sky.
Countless souls rose higher, gradually vanishing into the light.
"Can't you help them stay longer, Mama?" Nyx asked, her voice trembling with sadness. "What if you restored their bodies? Or made new ones?"
"I cannot," Maria shook her head gently. "These souls wish to move on. There is no reason to force them to remain. Unlike our enemies who committed evil and deserve time to reflect, these people... they are innocent, my dear."
"I know..." Nyx sighed, resting her head on her mother's shoulder as Maria carried her. "I love you, Mom..."
"I love you too," Maria smiled, kissing her forehead.
"And Dad too!" Nyx added.
"Haha, I love you as well," Lucifer chuckled softly, planting a kiss on Nyx's cheek.
"Goodbye, my dear," the Heavenly Demon's wife said, waving gently. "Please take care of yourself. Be the good man you've always been. I will love you forever, no matter what. Even in my next life... I will find you again."
"Haha... saying such things..." The Heavenly Demon managed a tearful laugh. "Very well. I will wait for you, my beloved. Always."
"I love you, my son," she said, kissing Wu Lieng's forehead. "No matter how the years have changed you, I still see my brave little boy—the crybaby who always stood up for what was right. You make me so proud."
"Mother..." Wu Lieng wiped his tears. "Thank you. I will keep making you proud."
"Well said!" She smiled brightly. "Now, children, it's time. Have you said your goodbyes?"
"Bye, Dad! Bye, bro!"
"Byeeee!"
"Take care!"
"I love you both!"
"Hehe, bye-bye!"
The five little ones waved enthusiastically as their mother carried them away.
She glanced back one last time at her husband and son, her expression serene and full of trust.
"This world is in good hands."
The light enveloped her, and she and her children faded into the distant horizon.
For a long moment, the world seemed to hold its breath. Everyone gazed at the empty white sky long after the last soul had vanished.
Though the ending was peaceful, a quiet emptiness settled in every heart.
One that would take time to heal...
"Let's go home, son," the Heavenly Demon said at last, a faint smile breaking through his grief.
"Yes... let's go, Father," Wu Lieng nodded.
