Chapter 1834: Chased By Several Factions

-----

"Laura, we’re being followed by at least four people," Maria said. "Come on, let’s hide. They’re here."

Maria pulled her sister behind a building. The two peered out as the first pursuer stepped into view: an ordinary-looking young man in his early twenties.

But his skin was unnaturally pale, his short black hair stark against it, and his eyes glowed vivid red.

"A Vampire," Maria whispered.

"Ah shit... they’re here already?!" Laura hissed. "But why are they following us? Is it because they want to turn you into one of them?! Ugh..."

"Are they an official guild?" Maria asked.

"No, mostly underworld organizations and cults..." Laura replied. "Really nasty guys... you don’t want to get involved in what they do unless you want to die or become their slaves. That’s what Joseph always tells us."

Maria watched silently as the Vampire man searched the area, clicking his tongue in frustration.

Suddenly, something stirred near the trash bins. A small green-skinned creature with a single eye and a bald head crowned in red horns emerged.

"Gryakaeee!"

It was a goblin-like cyclops monster.

"Ah, get lost."

The man swung his hand. A claw of blood energy sliced through the air.

The poor creature was severed into three pieces and collapsed in a heap.

"Sniff, sniff... Hm, I know you’re somewhere. That’s a really nice shampoo you have."

The Vampire smiled viciously as he prowled the streets, hunting the sisters.

He was more than a little creepy.

Before he could locate them, however...

Another figure stepped through the hole in the barrier.

"Another one?!"

Laura’s eyes widened. This time it was a woman with clear brown skin, golden eyes, clad in a flowing white dress and golden sandals. She wore abundant jewelry and carried a staff shaped like a rising bird, topped with a red jewel.

"A magician from Thebes?!"

Laura was even more stunned when the two intimidating figures met. They locked eyes in tense silence.

"Rat from the Crimson Order, begone from here. I saw her first."

"Huhu, and what about it? Whoever finds her gets to have her."

"Do you want the Light of Ra to burn you to a crisp?"

"I’m fairly sure that before you can even hit me with that, your head will be rolling on the ground... lady."

Both released their powerful Auras. The air grew thick with pressure as the forces clashed. Laura’s eyes widened; her hands trembled. Both exuded strength far beyond her rank.

"S...! S Rank!"

"Pfff, small fries."

Maria shrugged. She had expected at least some real heavy hitters, but these were just lowly minions.

Moments later, two more figures entered through the breach: men with short blonde hair and blue eyes—clearly twins.

They carried Blessings of Olympus and froze briefly upon seeing the Vampire and the magician.

"Damn it, they got here first?!"

"I told you we should have recruited her at the association building!"

The Vampire and the magician glared at them, eyes glowing with menace.

"Ah, some brats from Olympus..." the Thebian magician sighed.

"Two at that," the Vampire clicked his tongue.

"Oi, are you looking for the girl named Francisca?" one twin asked.

"We were planning to recruit her before she even registered. Our big brother Joseph should have intercepted her, but he couldn’t find her. We heard he rushed home for something urgent," the second twin said.

Maria laughed inwardly, realizing Joseph had been too ashamed to admit he lost to her.

"Hmph, I’ll find her before you!" The Vampire leaped onto a building and vanished into the distance.

"Hey, wait! Damn rat!" The Thebes woman roared and chased after him.

The twins shrugged and began searching the area.

"What do we do now?" Laura whispered.

"T-They’re all S Rank monsters! We’re going to die if we resist, Fran!" Laura was sweating profusely.

"Monsters?" Maria chuckled. "Hahaha, naaaah."

Maria laughed softly as she sensed a nearby Gate—a dimensional breach leading to a fragment of another world.

She extended her Consciousness and Intent toward it, luring the creatures out and triggering a Monster Break.

"Gryaaakaaaa!"

Dozens of one-eyed goblins poured through, swinging clubs wildly. Large one-eyed ogres followed, then a towering cyclops emerged, scanning the territory to see if it would make a suitable lair for his tribe.

They kicked over trash cans and rummaged for anything edible. A group soon caught a scent in the air, grinned, and rushed toward it, calling the rest.

In the end, the army of over a hundred green-skinned creatures found their prize.

A person.

"Huh."

The Thebes magician glared at the charging monsters with bored disdain and sighed.

"Begone."

Her golden staff blazed with divine power, unleashing beams of sunlight.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

The monsters burned alive instantly. The giant cyclops barely survived, reaching her and swinging his massive club.

Yet as she met its gaze with sharp golden eyes, she smiled viciously. Her Aura warped, summoning a giant force field from a floating golden machine at her side.

CLAAANK!

The cyclops’ fists exploded into pieces on impact. The monster screamed in agony, collapsing before its head was blasted apart by another beam.

BOOOM!

"Well, that thing was moderately strong. Was it a boss monster?"

Pondering, she kicked the severed head aside and sighed.

Maria watched the entire scene with sharp green eyes.

She felt slightly irritated.

These "monsters" weren’t mindless beasts; they were sentient beings from a devoured world. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

Their world fragment was merely fuel to strengthen a world yet to be consumed.

Or a steppingstone to conquer a new one if it proved weak enough.

It was a vicious cycle.

Frustrated that these beings could do so little, she decided to give them a small gift.

Maria reversed [Creation of Death] into [Creation of Life].

The monsters suddenly flared with golden flames and rose again. Their souls shone brightly.

Their bodies regenerated instantly, astonishing the woman who had just killed them.

"What?!"

As she stared in disbelief, Maria boosted their stats dramatically.

She even reversed the Nightmare power she normally implanted in Undead, turning it into the power of Dreams.

Thus, they gained Dream Auras despite lacking Dream Hearts. Space twisted around them as they laughed with pure joy at their resurrection.

"What the hell is this?!"

The woman retreated and attacked desperately. Though she killed a few, the monsters closed in, wielding their newfound abilities.

Within minutes she was trapped between swinging clubs and bizarre dream magic. The cyclops slowly raised its fists and crushed her into pulp.

CRAAASH!

Maria smiled at the scene and nodded.

"Fuck these guys from Thebes."
