Chapter 1845: Laura’s Ascension

-----

The training continued arduously every day. Laura sometimes felt like giving up, as things grew more and more ridiculously taxing for her.

But her master kept motivating her. The end of the month was approaching, yet she still had not reached the level necessary to become an Immortal.

Something was missing...

"There’s only two days left. This is hopeless..." Laura sighed. "What else am I missing, master?"

"Hm, nothing," the Heavenly Demon replied. "You are not missing a single thing, Laura."

"What?! Then what do I do?" she asked.

"You must realize your own self and what it entails compared to heaven and fate," the Heavenly Demon said. "Unfortunately, this is not something I or anybody can instruct you on. Everyone finds their own enlightenment. Ponder it as you meditate."

"...Okay," Laura sighed, glancing at her family spirits before sitting cross-legged. "Haaa..."

As she looked at them in silence, she lowered her gaze.

"What am I compared to heaven and fate?"

Laura began pondering while meditating.

"I’ve always felt like I’m nothing... I always worked hard just to keep my sister alive, but only thanks to Mom’s sacrifice could Fran really stay alive. I always try, but I never get anywhere. I always try, but it’s never enough. When I finally thought I would get somewhere, I was restricted and enslaved by beings above me. And when my sister finally woke up and I felt accomplished, after learning everything she achieved... I felt hollow, like everything I’ve done was nothing in comparison."

"So what am I?"

She paused for a moment. Her eyes slowly gained light, her eyebrows rising.

"It’s simple... I am someone who constantly struggles against heavenly fate... I defy heaven and fate, and... always attempt to overcome them, but always fail."

She stood up, gazing at the skies.

"Until now... I want to become strong... I want to become reliable."

She gripped her fists tightly.

"I want Mom back... I want our family back to normal!"

Laura’s aura began surging. Her powerful Soul wrapped around her entire body, attempting to merge its celestial essence with her flesh.

RUMBLE!

The skies trembled as the will of heaven manifested across the land formed from various Immortal Domains.

Laura looked upward. Heavenly Tribulations roared down—giant thunderbolts crashing toward her.

She began refining her body, letting celestial essence pour in and merge.

Slowly, she was managing...

"I can do this...! I can... Ah!"

BOOOM!

But the heavens are cruel.

A powerful thunderbolt struck her body, burning her flesh.

"Uugh...!"

She fell from the skies, staring at the heavens with a betrayed expression.

"Why..."

She closed her eyes, giving up.

"Just why do I even bother?"

Laura was someone who never gave up, but deep down she had always wished to throw everything away.

And now, at her lowest moment, she surrendered to despair.

...

But someone else refused.

"Big sis...! Don’t give up!"

A cute, adorable voice echoed behind her.

A little girl made of light hugged her tightly. Bright restorative energy spread through Laura’s body.

Her burns healed rapidly.

"Ah...!"

A gust of wind enveloped her, propelling her higher and higher.

At the same time, a fiery fist and a freezing wave intercepted another heavenly lightning bolt, shattering it before it could reach her.

She realized her Martial Artifact spirits were moving on their own, without any command.

"Don’t give up, my daughter."

"You can do this."

"Come on, big sis!"

They whispered to her...

Laura didn’t know what to say. Had she gone mad?

Or perhaps... this was really all a dream?

What she knew was that her body had already begun trying to ascend once more.

Lightning poured down.

BOOOM!

Her mother and father defended her, flames, ice, and winds surging into the skies.

Her sister kept them all healed, pouring everything she had.

Laura smiled. She laughed as celestial energy enveloped her completely, evolving and ascending every cell of her body.

"Hahaha...! I’ve really gone mad... is this my obsession? I am so pitiful."

As she laughed, her eyebrows furrowed.

Her aura surged, resembling a roaring, robust dragoness.

"So be it."

RUMBLE!

She punched the dark clouds blocking her ascension, her hands transforming into sharp dragon claws.

"I will ascend, and bring my family back with my own hands, if I have to!"

FLAAASH!

The largest thunderbolt surged downward toward Laura.

Her parents resisted it but ultimately exploded into spiritual energy and dissipated.

The lightning reached her, as if denying her the privilege of ascending any further.

Her little sister moved to defend her, but Laura pushed her back.

"What do you think you’re doing, Fran? You’re my little sister; you shouldn’t defend me or protect me... I will protect you."

Laura smiled as she hugged her scared little sister. The lightning struck with immense force.

BOOOMMM!!!

The celestial energy coursed through her body. Through her little sister’s healing embrace, she constantly healed while absorbing the power.

"I will always protect you, no matter what..."

Laura smiled silently as she watched her little sister dissipate while still hugging her.

The energies of her Martial Artifact converged at the origin of her soul and evolved alongside her.

Into an Immortal Artifact.

And her body and soul... ascended even further.

"She did it..." The Heavenly Demon laughed. "So this is a truly heaven-sent talent!"

Amidst the now-clear sky, Laura floated in midair. Her Aura overflowed with immense power, warping space around her.

"I did it..."

She felt a bubble within her growing larger and larger—her Golden Core.

It was evolving into an Immortal Domain.

"I’ll keep it inside my heart."

The domain manifested, surging outward. Its appearance was unlike any Immortal Domain ever born before.

It did not resemble a beautiful wilderness landscape filled with treasures like so many others.

Her Immortal Domain... was her neighborhood, or a perfect recreation of it.

The cafeteria where she, her mother, and sister went to eat cheesecake once a month. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

The restaurant where they enjoyed pasta and pizza.

Her little sister’s high school.

Her father’s construction site.

The small shoe factory where her mother worked.

The plaza.

And... her apartment, and inside, her home.

There were "people" within this place—faint spirits like her family.

There were cars. They were all living their own lives.

"A Living Memory...?"

She was surprised; her Immortal Domain did not match any description she had ever heard.

"I’m really weird..."

She laughed brightly, looking at the sky.

"With this power, I should at least be decently strong, right master?"

Laura faced the Heavenly Demon, who smiled at her with a content expression.

"Well done, Laura. And yes, it’s more than enough. You have evolved your constitution into what I always sought but could never achieve: a True Perfect Heavenly Demonic Dragon Physique," he said. "Your Soul has ascended into an Immortal Dragon Soul. Your Consciousness is massive, spreading everywhere. Your Martial Soul and Martial Intent are fully mastered. What’s more... your Immortal Artifact must have become tremendously strong. And your Immortal Domain must be vast."

"It is but... it’s a little weird," Laura giggled.

"Huh?" The Heavenly Demon looked inside. His calm eyes widened. "W-What...! What is this bizarre world?"
