Reborn as a Hatrack in the Mystical Land-Chapter 622 - 79: Femme Fatale
"Brother Long, what is this?" Ji Yun asked, puzzled as he opened the bottle which contained an unknown powder.
"This is Dragon Eggshell Powder. Sub-Asian Dragons are fiercely protective of their young. If they smell the scent of dragon egg on the Dark Practitioner, they certainly won’t enter into a master contract. All you need to do is sprinkle it on Yue Minzhi’s battle armor, and in tomorrow’s Dragon Pulling Test, his defeat is all but guaranteed," Long Jiuzun said calmly, convinced that if this involved Long Rui, Ji Yun would not hesitate to agree.
Dragon Eggshell Powder, how did this fall into Long Jiuzun’s hands?
Realizing Long Jiuzun was instigating him to frame Yue Minzhi, Ji Yun felt a twinge of displeasure, even the wine in his mouth seemed to lose its flavor.
Although a playboy, he was certainly not stupid. Recalling Yue Jinghua’s eyes filled with an evil aura, he shivered involuntarily.
For some reason, even though the National Guardian General Residence was considered more powerful and influential than the Duke Mansion, Ji Yun found himself reluctant to offend the Duke Mansion.
"Brother Long," Ji Yun said sternly, pushing the medicine bottle back across the table, "You underestimate me. I, Ji Yun, may not be a gentleman of impeccable conduct, but I am not so despicable as to frame Yue Minzhi. Tomorrow, I will rely on my own strength to defeat Yue Minzhi and earn the favor of the Sub-Asian Dragon, making both the General Residence and Miss Long Rui reconsider their view of me."
The more Ji Yun spoke, the more enthused he became, his face flushing as if the nefarious Ji Yun of years past was not the same person.
After speaking, he gave a confident bow to Long Jiuzun and strode away.
"How’s that, did your young master not show great valor today?" Ji Yun asked proudly to the guards at his side.
"The young master is indeed commanding. Tomorrow, you will unquestionably conquer like a force unstoppable and win over the Sub-Asian Dragon," Ji Yun, burping from the alcohol, was escorted by his agreeable retainers back to Ji Residence.
"Idiot," Long Jiuzun spat disdainfully.
Ji Yun’s refusal surprised him, and his scheme to frame Yue Minzhi was consequently thwarted.
But how could Long Jiuzun be a man of simple means? After pondering for a moment, he returned to the National Guardian General Residence.
Arriving outside Long Rui’s room, he knocked on the door.
"I don’t want to see anyone," came the sulky voice of Miss Long Rui from inside.
"Ruru, it’s me," Long Jiuzun pushed the door open, only to see Long Rui hurriedly hiding something behind her.
"Isn’t that..." Long Jiuzun’s forehead creased with worry, as Long Rui was too slow to hide it, and he caught a glimpse of the strangely shaped leather sheath in her hands.
That leather was a personal treasure of Long Ao, the skin of an Eighth-level Ice and Fire Lizard Horned Beast. Being cooling in the summer and warm in the winter, with incredible defense capabilities, it should have been kept safe in the treasure vault of Dragon Residence.
"Keep your voice down," Long Rui hustled to close the door, "Don’t tell anyone about this. Anyway, all the stuff in the vault is just going to rot, so it’s better to put waste to use and let me remodel it."
Long Jiuzun could hardly bear to look at the makeshift leather armor. Long Rui’s hands were somewhat passable when swinging a sword or wielding a gun. But put a needle and thread in those hands, and it was as awkward as a scholar attempting to brandish a big saber.
Looking at the makeshift armor, clearly designed for a man, it was undoubtedly made for Yue Minzhi.
This silly girl, her heart was entirely fixated on Yue Minzhi; she didn’t give a second thought to tomorrow’s Dragon Pulling Test.
"Let me have a look; I know more about men’s clothing," Long Jiuzun pretended to inspect the leather armor. While Long Rui was distracted, he sprinkled the Dragon Eggshell Powder on the armor. After giving a few false suggestions, he returned the armor to Long Rui.
After finishing the sewing, Long Rui ran out the door joyfully with the new piece of gear in hand.
Long Jiuzun’s expression darkened, muttering to himself: "Yue Minzhi, a vial of Dragon Bone is just the beginning."
Long Rui dashed out of the General Residence and headed straight to Duke Mansion.
But upon arriving outside the Duke Mansion, Yue Jinghua hesitated again.
Yue Minzhi had just proposed to withdraw their marriage engagement, and here she was, hastening to his door; would she be rejected once more?
For a lady like Miss Long Rui to chase after a man was, in the eyes of the world, undoubtedly a most humiliating act.
But Long Rui was truly affectionate towards Yue Minzhi with a pure and straightforward nature, having a candid disposition; to like is to like, to dislike is to dislike.
She never considered how others might view her; in her eyes, the only opinion that mattered was that of Yue Minzhi.
Long Rui paced back and forth outside the Duke Mansion.
"Why bother with so much, to give or not is my choice, and whether to wear it or not is his," Long Rui gritted her teeth, raised her hand, and was about to knock on the door.
At that moment, she heard the mansion’s gate creak open.
Yue Minzhi walked out from inside, and his gaze fell upon Long Rui right away.
Long Rui’s face was flushed with a touch of redness from hurrying over, and her hair was blown askew by the wind. Seeing Yue Minzhi startled her.
"You, you," Long Rui’s tongue seemed to tie itself in knots, finding herself unable to utter a coherent sentence.
She suddenly thrust the leather armor into Yue Minzhi’s hands, then turned and ran off, leaving behind only a faint scent.
Yue Minzhi stood there stunned, the leather armor in his hands still warm from Long Rui’s touch.
The teasing laughter of a sibling came from behind: "Keep staring like that, and you’ll turn into a statue of longing."
Yue Jinghua stood behind Yue Minzhi, brimming with smiles. After mastering the Domain of the Dragon King, her spiritual abilities had significantly increased; now she could grasp everything that happened inside and outside the entire Duke Mansion without missing a single detail.
Yue Minzhi, pinching the leather armor in his hand, thought it might look a little ugly, but upon touching it, he knew this was no ordinary item.
"What’s this? A rag?" Yue Jinghua stepped forward, pretending to snatch the leather armor.
"Huahua," Yue Minzhi’s voice involuntarily rose as he hurriedly hid the clothes and armor behind him.
Realizing his own uncharacteristic behavior, Yue Minzhi’s handsome face turned red with shyness.
After such a long reunion, Yue Jinghua saw her brother, Yue Minzhi, react like this for the first time.
It was clear that Yue Minzhi was not entirely indifferent to Long Rui. With the lad inclined, and the lass interested, it was baffling that they still went ahead to dissolve the engagement—a truly incomprehensible mindset of ancient people.
"Big brother, one must have the courage to face their true feelings," Yue Jinghua shook her head helplessly, uncertain whose temperament her brother really took after.
In her memory, the Blood Sakura Duke Yue Nian was a suave and dashing figure; how he ended up with such an unexpressive son, shy even to court his own prospective wife, was beyond her.
At this moment, Yue Jinghua actually wanted to introduce her brother to Xie Yu, for if he could learn just a trick or two from him, by now he’d likely have a house full of children and grandchildren. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
"What nonsense are you talking about," Yue Minzhi grumbled, quietly slipping the clothes and armor into his chest, his eyes carrying a tinge of embarrassment.
Yue Jinghua just shrugged, "If you still fancy her, then tomorrow during the Dragon Pulling Test you’ve got to give it your all, fight for the honor of our Duke Mansion, and for yourself too."
