Chapter 757: Chapter 7: Swept the House

The first die stopped rolling.

"One point," an anxious gambler rushed to announce the score.

The other two dice were still spinning, with "two points" and "three points" faintly emerging as the trends on their six faces.

Lady Xieleng’s smile grew more pronounced; one, two, three, that was a sweepstakes loss.

As the two dice slowed down, the more clearly defined "one, two, three" points came into view, Lady Xieleng said, "Captain Yue, it seems you have lost terribly this time..."

"Oh dear, that is indeed a dreadful loss," Yue Jinghua clapped her hands and exclaimed, "One... one... one, Leopard King."

With her declaration, the second and third dice finally came to a halt.

Inside the porcelain bowl, three one-point hearts faced up, mockingly "staring" at Lady Xieleng.

Cheng Qianshou’s eyes were still bleeding when he heard Yue Jinghua announce "Leopard King"; he squeezed his way toward the gambling table in disbelief, murmuring that it was impossible.

"It’s really the Leopard King, three one points, oh my, Leopard King versus triple sixes, this is divine."

"Ten times the bet, how much did I just stake, I’ve struck it rich, I’ve struck it rich!"

"It’s over; I just bet a hundred thousand Dark Pills."

Faced with the sudden turn of the gambling result, some gamblers were in awe, others in ecstasy.

"Impossible, how could it be the Leopard King," Cheng Qianshou was muttering like a madman, unable to expel the stifled anger within him, blood spurted from his mouth and he fell to the ground like a javelin.

The people in the gambling house looked at each other in dismay, none daring to speak a word amidst the chaos.

Lady Xieleng stood petrified by the gambling table; her proud face alternating between pale and green, her lips smeared with colorful rouge instantly turned ashen.

"You’ve been very gracious," Yue Jinghua said with a beaming smile, "A bet is a bet, Lady Xieleng."

The chips on the table, along with the gamblers’ chips, added up to at least tens of millions. With ten times the odds, the staggering amount of chips, even the wealthy Xieleng Family could not possibly settle it all at once.

After regaining her composure, Lady Xieleng ordered someone to carry away the unconscious Cheng Qianshou and then invited Yue Jinghua and Chen Jiangyin out of the gambling house.

The Ten-Thousand Treasures Pavilion lost this sum of money in front of over a hundred gamblers; trying to renege on the bet was now impossible.

After weighing her options, Lady Xieleng had no choice but to invite Yue Jinghua to discuss the matter separately.

She personally brewed some excellent post-rain rainbow tea, invited Yue Jinghua and Chen Jiangyin to take their seats, and pulled out a smile that looked worse than a cry: "Captain Yue, in this gamble, our Ten-Thousand Treasures Pavilion has indeed lost. It’s just that the amount of the bet is too large. Regarding the method of settlement this time, can we sit down and discuss it properly?"

"Sure, sure, Madam Xieleng is a senior figure in the mercenary world. Just return that ring to us, and the debt repayment can be amicably negotiated," Yue Jinghua, who had suddenly in turn become the creditor from the debtor, was in a splendid mood and spoke quite generously.

As soon as she heard that the other party insisted on getting back that ring, which whereabouts were unknown, Madam Xieleng’s carefully maintained face involuntarily twitched. She forced a smile and said with difficulty: "That ring has really been lost."

"Lost? Then repay the debt, repay it in full all at once, not a day more," Yue Jinghua’s face changed as quickly as a fickle child. Without further words, she slapped the table with resounding smacks, urging Madam Xieleng to repay the money.

"Captain Yue, I really am powerless regarding that ring. If you insist on the recommendation ring, I can procure another one from the hands of the Geyue Mercenary Guild, and your companion can still use that ring to participate in the Mercenary Newcomer King Competition," Madam Xieleng was already so angry that her insides were twisting into knots.

As an experienced Mercenary King and the current Family Head of the Xieleng Family, Madam Xieleng indeed had means to secure another identical recommendation ring from the local Geyue Mercenary Association.

But that ring was supposed to be for that despicable illegitimate son, and thinking about it made Madam Xieleng feel tightness in her chest.

She had truly tied her own hands this time. She had intended to hinder Qin Dongting’s participation in the Newcomer King Competition to clear the path for her son Bo Xiyu’s victory, but after all her scheming, Yue Jinghua had turned the tables on her.

What made Madam Xieleng even more infuriated was yet to come. Yue Jinghua was not just any Tom, Dick or Harry who could be fobbed off with any random ring.

"No way, I just won with leopard, and the bet was not just any ring but also a Dark Pill. A single ring is not enough; at the very least, you owe us ten rings," Yue Jinghua demanded the sky-high price rashly, which left Madam Xieleng dumbfounded.

"Ten? How is that possible? Do you think recommendation rings are cabbages to buy in bulk on the streets?" Madam Xieleng had been driven close to collapse by Yue Jinghua’s demands, having seen shameless people, but never one so shameless.

This was the official recommendation ring for the Mercenary Newcomer King Competition. Each Mercenary King had only one, and each Mercenary Branch had only five. Even within the Geyue Mercenary Association, the remaining recommendation rings would never exceed ten.

Yue Jinghua’s demand for ten rings was simply an outrageous demand.

"If not ten, then just any seven or eight would do. I’ve thought about it, each member of our July Mercenary Team is excellent and should qualify to participate in the Newcomer King Competition—giving one ring to each isn’t too much to ask," Yue Jinghua quickly reasoned, "Myself, Qian Luo, Shalman, Qin Dongting, Compass, Feng Buhui; since Aunt Chi Xi is overaged, I’ll even save you one ring. If not ten, there are always six, right? If you don’t have six, then repay the money right now, repay the money."

Madam Xieleng’s shoulders shook with anger, she glanced at Chen Jiangyin, then at Yue Jinghua, who wore the face of a local rascal.

A wicked idea suddenly dawned on her.

She lost to Yue Jinghua at the gambling table, but she refused to believe that, with the Xieleng Family’s years of heritage and the good relations with the Mercenary Headquarters as well as various Mercenary Branches, she couldn’t crush Yue Jinghua in the Mercenary Newcomer King competition.

Since her own son Bo Xiyu was directly recommended by the Geyue Mercenary Association, Madam Xieleng still had one recommendation ring left. If she went to the Mercenary Headquarters to ask for a few favors, six rings would certainly not be an issue.

If she was to deal with Yue Jinghua, she might as well uproot her so-called July Mercenary Team entirely.

The malicious light in Madam Xieleng’s eyes flared, but her face was smiling enchantingly, "Alright, six recommendation rings, I will have them delivered to Captain Yue by noon tomorrow."

"Madam Xieleng is indeed someone who talks quickly and acts decisively. Now that we’ve settled the matter of the ring, let’s calculate the rest of the debt settlement. I’m willing to waive the tenfold debt that Ten-Thousand Treasures Pavilion owes me, but I have one condition," Yue Jinghua sipped the tea Madam Xieleng brewed and said lightly.
