Chapter 789: Chapter 39: Merit Points System

Four Symbols City is very spacious, and the number of residents living there is much more than what Yue Jinghua and others had imagined, moreover, their levels of cultivation are astonishing.

Before entering Four Symbols City, the members of the July Mercenary Team possessed fairly good strength and, along with their individual skills, were considered top young masters on the continent. However, once they stepped into Four Symbols City, this sense of superiority immediately vanished.

After taking a stroll, the three of them, Yue Jinghua and her friends, felt a sense of crisis as if treading on thin ice, because the residents of Four Symbols City, just like Gui City Lord had mentioned, are mostly Dark Heavenly Masters, with the weakest among them still being at the Small Achievement of Dark Heavenly level. In comparison to them, who had just entered the city and only recently broke through to the Dark Heavenly level, their strength was not even on the same tier.

"I finally understand what it feels like to be outnumbered by masters, where even Dark Heavenly level is not as good as dogs," Yue Jinghua couldn’t help but lament.

"Jinghua, if even you say that, then what should someone like me, who barely reaches the Dark Earth level, do? This life here is just unbearable, I regret coming to Four Symbols City," Shalman complained with a frown on her lovely face, looking very frustrated.

She participated in the Xuyang Trial purely on a whim, initially only planning to be part of Qin Dongting’s "Family and Friends", little did she know she would be roped in by Yue Jinghua onto this pirate ship.

"When in Rome, do as the Romans do. There is a shop up ahead, let’s go take a look. Dark Pill cards can’t be used here; we must first check out what this Merit Points thing is about," sitting idly is not in Yue Jinghua’s nature. Until she could figure out the details of this Xuyang Trial, she decided to temporarily stay in Four Symbols City.

Shalman’s casual complaint made Yue Jinghua realize that, unlike other participants, she not only had to worry about her own survival but also had to consider the July Mercenary Team’s food, clothing, shelter, and transportation needs, since they joined the Xuyang Trial because she had persuaded them.

Aunt Chi Xi stayed behind on the Titan, where water and food were plentiful for the time being, so there was no urgent need to worry, but Yue Jinghua still had to find a way to send news out of the city from time to time, so Aunt Chi Xi wouldn’t worry.

When arriving in a new place, an acclimation process is always necessary, and as the team leader, she needed to quickly understand the local customs and conditions, especially with an uncertain future ahead.

Fortunately, Yue Xiaoqi’s past experience as a female spy came in handy, with a few simple words, she managed to turn Shalman’s worries into delight.

The three were open-minded by nature, and realizing they would have a month of free time and with Four Symbols City being a place of many wonders, with items vastly different from those on Canglong Continent, they soon unleashed their natural shopping instincts, and explored all the shops in Four Symbols City, ultimately understanding why so many experts from the continent were willing to endure an almost semi-imprisoned life to stay there.

After their tour, Yue Jinghua and others roughly understood the various situations within Four Symbols City.

They found that despite spending more than half a day, they still only covered a small part of Four Symbols City. The area from which they entered was called the Chen District, the most remote and spiritually deprived area, yet the most populated as well.

Despite this, the various shops in the Chen District, and the myriad items they sold, were enough to make any commerce group in Canglong Continent, even the Ten-Thousand Treasures Pavilion, pale in comparison.

Randomly entering a grocery store, they found a variety of medium to high-level holy artifacts, and even some worn divine artifacts on display, all at prices far more favorable than on Canglong Continent.

However, as City Lord Changsun had forewarned, Dark Pill Cards from Canglong Continent were useless in Four Symbols City, no matter how many stars they had.

If buying isn’t possible, then selling should be, right?

With this thought, Yue Jinghua attempted to sell some items from the Desire Gourd to exchange for Merit Points, only to discover that the food, Spirit Grass, and even some Elixir Pills she took out immediately decayed as soon as they left the gourd.

"What’s going on?" Not only Yue Jinghua, but Qian Luo and Shalman’s belongings experienced the same.

"You must be new here," remarked the grocery store owner, a middle-aged woman with an ordinary appearance but exuding the aura of a Dark Heavenly Peak master.

Seeing their attire and typical clueless expressions of newcomers, she laughed heartily, "The environment of Four Symbols City is quite unique. Even the winds here, influenced by the continental land wind, are unlike any others. Objects not produced within Four Symbols City rapidly decay upon exposure to these winds. This is true even for weapons; without undergoing refinement by the Star Sparrow Fire at Star Sparrow Hall, armors and weapons rust and break easily. You seem like newcomers – every new resident in Four Symbols City is entitled to a free forging opportunity, so make sure to visit Star Sparrow Hall when you get the chance."

The shop owner’s words made Yue Jinghua abandon the idea of trading items from the Desire Gourd.

The three then took the opportunity to chat with the shop owner, inquiring about the specifics of Four Symbols City.

Being talkative, the shop owner helped Yue Jinghua and the others better understand the layout of the entire city with her comprehensive explanation.

The whole Four Symbols City is structured in a ’回’ shape with the Mainland Battlefield positioned at the outer loop. However, the exact size of the Mainland Battlefield remained beyond the knowledge of the shop owner who had been living in the city for over ten years.

Four Symbols City is divided into four major districts: Sun, Moon, Star, and Chen Districts, which are interconnected but not freely traversable.

Residents of the Sun District have the freedom to traverse the entire city; Moon District residents can roam all areas except the Sun District; and so on, while Chen District residents, without direct summons from the city lord, can only move around within the Chen District.

"Like the prohibition against private fights, the interdiction against intruding into different districts is one of the fundamental rules of living in Four Symbols City. Violating this rule is met with severe punishment," the shop owner didn’t specify what the punishments would be, but her expression suggested they were harsh indeed.

"Depending on the accumulated battle achievements, moving to the Sun District requires a minimum of a million war achievements, Moon District requires ten thousand, and Star District needs a thousand," the shop owner said, wearing a Merit Ring on her finger displaying ’100’.

"They say merit points are important, but how can one acquire them? Shop owner, you mentioned living in the Star District for over ten years but only have a hundred merit points," Qian Luo inquired curiously.

The shop owner chuckled awkwardly, yet took no offense at Qian Luo’s straightforwardness, "Don’t underestimate merit points. Being achievements, the most direct way to earn them is by entering the inter-dimensional battlefield, though it’s not a place for just anyone."
