Chapter 1625: Chapter 828: A Special Gift (Part 2)

"Go get a coat and an umbrella, and send two people to escort Master Chu back to his courtyard." Shen Liu instructed while putting on a cloak and a snow hat.

Immediately, two young maidservants came with an umbrella and cloak, leading Master Chu downstairs first.

When Lian Manman family saw Shen Liu dressed like this, they knew he was about to go downstairs and naturally stepped aside.

"Sixth Master, are you going out, or are you about to retire?" Lian Manman asked with a smile.

Shen Liu’s gaze fell on Lian Manman’s face as if he was pondering something. Outside, the snow continued to fall, but tonight’s snow seemed rather leisurely and carefree, with scattered snowflakes fluttering in the breeze. Because Lian Manman was standing sideways by the railing, some snowflakes drifted inside and onto her face.

Shen Liu raised his hand, shielding the side of Lian Manman’s face. Two snowflakes touched Shen Liu’s fingers and instantly melted. Yet, one snowflake fell right between Lian Manman’s brows.

Before Lian Manman realized, she only felt a coolness on her brow, and then she saw Shen Liu’s hand before her eyes. Instinctively, Lian Manman blinked her eyes, her long, thick eyelashes brushing across Shen Liu’s palm.

Shen Liu felt a tickle in his palm, as if his heart was gently brushed by a soft brush. This feeling made Shen Liu’s hand pause there.

Shen Liu lowered his head while Lian Manman raised hers, squinting slightly, eyes wide open, their eyes met, each seeing the sparkle in the other’s eyes. It was undoubtedly the most beautiful sight in this snowy night.

Lian Manman’s eyes flickered twice as she took a step back. Shen Liu did not retreat, nor did he withdraw his hand; instead, he extended a finger and gently touched Lian Manman’s brow.

Lian Manman quickly glanced back, and luckily, her family was watching the lanterns outside, paying no attention to this side. Lian Manman breathed a sigh of relief and then sneaked another glance at Shen Liu.

Shen Liu’s eyes held a smile, his eyes shining brightly under the lantern light.

At this moment, the maidservant who went to get the umbrella finally arrived. Lian Manman family came tonight for the banquet, not expecting snow, hence they did not bring an umbrella.

Shen Liu led the way with Lian Manman family following behind as they descended from Phoenix Tower.

"I want to take a look at the lantern market. You’re heading home in the same direction, would you like to join me?" After going downstairs, Shen Liu stood still and spoke to Lian Manman family.

It turned out he wasn’t going to rest or handle other matters, but simply wanted to stroll through the lantern market. Considering Shen Liu’s high position and busy schedule, he remained a young man.

"Well..." Lian Manman family exchanged glances, momentarily unsure how to respond.

In fact, their way home wasn’t exactly convenient, and although it was snowing, such snow didn’t significantly affect the lantern market. At this point, maneuvering through the lantern market traffic with their carriage would be quite difficult.

Nonetheless, following Shen Liu for a stroll through the lantern market was appealing. While others remained undecided, Xiao Qi’s big eyes were already sparkling.

Before the family could respond, they heard chaotic footsteps and horse hooves. Several soldiers led horses over, followed by a sturdy woman carrying a sedan chair, stopping at the steps.

"I’ve sent your carriage back." Shen Liu said, "Your mother can sit in the sedan chair, and you can ride horses with me."

Everything arranged by Shen Liu left everyone speechless, except...

"Sixth Master, I don’t know how to ride a horse, never have..." Lian Manman said hesitantly.

"Then... are you planning to sit in the sedan chair?" Shen Liu asked.

Lian Manman looked at the sedan chair, then at the tall horses led by the soldiers. She certainly didn’t want to sit inside the sedan chair; what fun would the lantern market be then? She wanted to ride a horse, but she was honest about her riding skills—she had none. Wandering in the bustling city to see lanterns wasn’t child’s play. She didn’t want to create a scene of a startled horse at the lantern market this night.

Lian Manman stood there, tangled up and speechless.

In Shen Liu’s memory, Lian Manman had always been wise and decisive. It was rare to see her show such an expression, causing him to smile. But Lian Manman felt frustrated seeing Shen Liu so relaxed, seemingly mocking her, and she sneakily rolled her eyes at him when others weren’t looking.

"Hehe..." Shen Liu chuckled twice after receiving the eye roll.

Lian Manman secretly clenched her fist, a hint of ferocity in her eyes.

Shen Liu cleared his throat twice and clapped his hands. Immediately, they heard horse hooves. A sturdy woman led a black horse from behind Phoenix Tower, stopping at the steps.

Lian Manman’s gaze was instantly drawn to this horse. Even with limited knowledge of horses, she could tell at a glance that it was a rare, fine steed. This black horse had no stray hairs, and when it emerged from the shadow, it almost blended into the night. Its limbs were strong, body sleek, just right in proportion, and walked with elegance and vitality. Lian Manman could almost envision it running.

"...Came from the west, already trained, very gentle, just right for you to ride..." Shen Liu said slowly.

"Sixth Master, are you saying this horse is a gift for me?" Lian Manman widened her eyes, ecstatic, barely believing her ears.
