Chapter 605: Chapter 311 New Store Opening_2

To mark the opening of the new shop, Lian’s had hired two more Hall-Runners and a wife to help in the kitchen. Wu Lang and Xiao Qi no longer needed to help in the shop, and Lian Shouxin no longer had to run the hall himself. He truly took on the role of Shopkeeper and also oversaw the cash handling.

Lady Zhang still took charge in the kitchen, but the hiring of additional general workers had lightened her load significantly.

Lian Manman continued to handle accounting in the back, managing the finances.

On the selected auspicious day, amidst the sound of firecrackers, the signboard of Lian’s was taken down from the front of the old shop and personally hung by Lian Shouxin at the entrance of the new shop.

Wang Youheng, Mr. Loo, Shopkeeper Wu, Lizheng, Old Master Lian, Old Huang, Wu Yugui, Wu Yuchang, and others were invited as guests of honor. Additionally, what surprised the villagers was the presence of Wang Youhuai, standing right next to Wang Youheng in the guest lineup.

This was Manman’s idea. She asked Wang Youheng to act as a mediator and prepared several gifts for Scholar Wang’s wife’s longevity celebration. She also wrote an invitation asking Scholar Wang to attend the opening banquet at their new shop. After receiving the invitation, Scholar Wang invited Lian Shouxin inside, exchanged a few words, and mentioned that he didn’t have the time but agreed to send his son, Wang Youhuai, to attend the banquet for the opening of Lian’s new shop.

The fact that Scholar Wang gave them face couldn’t be solely attributed to Wang Youheng’s influence.

On the day of the new shop’s opening, the upstairs was prepared for the honored guests, while downstairs, it was business as usual, serving breakfast. To add a festive touch, and of course, to attract more customers, they offered a promotion: buy three soup-filled buns and get one free. Additionally, every customer who dined in the shop received a small dish of stir-fried vegetables.

The filling of the soup buns, the stir-fried vegetables, and the soups and porridges sold by the shop all contained the delectable "Broth Gem."

For the business on this day, Manman wasn’t looking to make a profit; it was all to let more customers taste the food enhanced by the "Broth Gem". She believed that after this tasting, they would prefer Lian’s as their first choice for similar dishes in the future.

"Has the filling for these buns improved again?" exclaimed Wang Youheng, biting into a bun upstairs, "It’s even more delicious than before, good."

The other guests who tasted the buns nodded in agreement.

Downstairs, the regular customers of Lian’s undoubtedly preferred the spacious new premises, brand new tables and chairs, and pristine dishes and utensils. Manman had generously invested in the opening of the new shop.

When they tried the soups and porridges, even more people started to sing praises.

"No wonder Lian’s business is booming, just look how fresh this soup is."

"Indeed, today’s soup tastes fresher than before... Waiter, another bowl of soup, please."

"This family does business with integrity; even their steamed buns are hefty, always more than you expect, never less."

"Shopkeeper Lian’s place is clean, and the food is reassuring to eat."

After a busy half day, Manman sat on the kang in the back room, her eyes curving into crescent moons as she looked at the new money box that was twice the size of the old one but still couldn’t accommodate the mound of Copper Coins that had spilled onto the kang.

"My goodness, how much money is this!" exclaimed Lady Zhang, standing on the floor, somewhat dazed with joy.

"Two thousand two hundred eighty-five Wen." Manman stated the amount without even looking at the ledger because, with the various giveaways today and after deducting various costs, the profits were close to fifteen hundred Wen Money.

"That’s a tael and a half of Silver!" Lady Zhang said as she sat down on the kang with a dreamy expression.

"I didn’t expect so many people to come today," said Shouxin, joining her on the kang.

"Dad, the old shop was too small before, and though the wealthy wanted to come eat, they found it too crowded or the shop not respectable enough. Now, with our new, spacious, and presentable shop, those people are willing to come." Manman explained.

"Yes, that makes sense," Wu Lang agreed, nodding. Having studied at the private school in town for some time, Wu Lang’s social circle had widened, and he had learned much more.

"Today we had a promotion, so of course, more people came, but it’s hard to say how it will be tomorrow," Lian Shouxin said with some uncertainty.

"Dad, don’t worry. After tasting the food in our shop today, they’ll probably find it hard to go back to eating at other places. Word of mouth will spread, and our shop will only draw more customers," Manman assured him with a smile.

"Right, we have a treasure, the ’Broth Gem,’" Xiao Qi whispered, seeing that no outsiders were around.

Indeed, the tiny "Broth Gem" had proved its worth today, showing that it would become a powerful guarantee for Lian’s ever-growing wealth.

After the excitement, the family began discussing future plans.

"The old shop still has some time on its lease; let’s use it for storage. The kang in there can be used to dry clams and such," suggested Lady Zhang.

"For this new shop here, besides selling soups, steamed buns, and stuffed buns, should we also sell other dishes? Old Huang even suggested that we start offering stir-fried dishes," said Shouxin.

"Let’s stick with these for now," Manman decided after some thought. "We’re mainly serving breakfast right now. For those who buy steamed buns, don’t we have a few side dishes? That’s enough to keep us busy at the moment. We will consider more options depending on the situation later."

"However, my opinion is that the key for our shop’s food lies in quality, not quantity," Manman added.

"That’s true," Wu Lang nodded. "Our shop’s location is mainly to serve the people on the mountain with breakfast. To add more stir-fried dishes would depend on how things go in the future."

"The Dragon Boat Festival is coming up soon, should we make some zongzi for sale for a few days?" Manman suggested as she flipped through the almanac beside her.
