Chapter 621: Chapter 319 Turbulence From Nowhere_2

"Tonight’s dinner and tomorrow’s breakfast, that’s both taken care of," Lady Zhang said.

Together with Mr. Loo, there were seven people in total, and they only ate less than half of the large spread of dishes.

"Once we’re done tidying up, let’s also take a rest," Lady Zhang added, "Look how soundly your dad is sleeping."

"Mother, you rest here, I’ll head back to the old house," Lian Zhizhi said as she took the keys, "I only fed the pigs and the chickens and ducks once in the morning, I need to hurry back and feed them again."

The feast for the festival today was prepared and enjoyed in the new shop. The family had come from the old house in the morning and hadn’t gone back since. After all, with the commotion Lady Zhou caused yesterday, who knew what she would be like today. On the rare occasion of the Dragon Boat Festival, the Lian Manman family naturally wanted to spend it happily and contentedly.

"That’s fine too," Lady Zhang nodded in agreement.

"Mother, I’ll go back with my sister," Lian Manman volunteered.

"Sis, I’ll go back with you too," Xiao Qi said.

"You stay here, it’s quiet," Lian Manman replied, "Rest for a bit and then go read with our brother."

"Oh," Xiao Qi agreed. Ever since he started private tutoring, he hadn’t had as much time to play as before.

"It’s a festival today, you have the day off," Lady Zhang said, "If you don’t want to rest, then go and play with Xiao Tanzhi, but remember to take some plain meatballs for him."

"Okay," Xiao Qi’s voice was noticeably more cheerful than before.

Lian Manman smiled and shook her head but didn’t say anything more. Xiao Qi was sensible, but after all, he was still young and couldn’t always be confined to studying.

Lian Manman and Lian Zhizhi left the house together and headed to the old house. The Lian Family’s courtyard was quiet, seemingly everyone had already eaten lunch. The two returned to the West Wing Room, one cooked for the pigs while the other chopped vegetable leaves and mixed them with bran to feed the chickens and ducks.

After finishing their chores, the two went back inside, and Lady Chiang came over holding Niuniu.

"I was going through the chest and found a few more patterns, which I think are quite nice. Zhizhi, Manman, you should pick some you like, and I’ll trace them for you," Lady Chiang said as she let Niuniu down on the kang bed to play by herself and took out a book from her bosom, showing the patterns inside to Lian Zhizhi and Lian Manman.

Lady Chiang was skillful and had lived in the town before, eventually spending some time in the city as well. She had many patterns that were also fashionable and pretty.

Lian Zhizhi needed to make shoes for the Wu Jiaxing and still owed Lian Manman several pairs, and she had also promised to embroider Lian Manman’s new skirt. Seeing these patterns, she certainly was delighted and began to choose right away.

Lian Manman brought over a table, took out two kinds of pastries for Niuniu to eat, and then got a stone pencil and thin paper to watch Lady Chiang trace the patterns.

"Why is it so quiet today?" Lian Manman asked Lady Chiang.

"...Erlang and Third Uncle came back for lunch and then went back to work. Granny and Old Aunt are taking a nap. In Erlang’s room, only Erlang’s wife is resting. Second Aunt took Duoduo to visit neighbors," Lady Chiang paused briefly before continuing, "Granny mentioned that they heard about a place needing a schoolroom, so your Great Uncle took your Big Uncle to discuss it. Your Big Uncle’s wife, Third Uncle’s wife, and Yeye were sent by Granny to pick wild vegetables. Jizu is reading at home."

"Jizu is indeed quite studious," Lian Manman said with a smile, "If Big Uncle can get a schoolroom to manage, that would be great."

"Indeed," Lady Chiang smiled in response, "just not sure whether it will work out."

As the three women chatted and laughed, they heard footsteps outside, followed by the door curtain being lifted, and Lian Jizu stood at the entrance with a dark expression.

"Niuniu’s mother, come out," Lian Jizu called to Lady Chiang, beckoning her.

"What’s the matter?" Lady Chiang was taken aback. She and her husband, Lian Jizu, had always been on good terms over the years. He was known for his calm demeanor and rarely ever showed her a stern face.

"If I tell you to come out, you come out," Lian Jizu said, frowning slightly.

Lady Chiang pursed her lips. Lian Jizu’s behavior was like a slap in the face in front of her cousins, and she was not pleased. Her complexion changed slightly before she put on a smile.

"Why are you scowling like that? Aren’t you afraid of scaring Niuniu, or frightening Zhizhi and Manman?" Lady Chiang reproached him, as if Lian Jizu’s appearance was not to put her down but rather a small joke between husband and wife.

As she spoke, Lady Chiang stood up, glanced back at Niuniu, hesitating whether to carry Niuniu out with her, but soon decided to leave Niuniu behind.

"Your Uncle Jizu has something to discuss with me. I will be back shortly," she said with a smile to Lian Manman and Lian Zhizhi, then she instructed Niuniu, "Behave and play nice with your Aunt Zhizhi and Aunt Manman. Don’t be naughty."

"Mhm," Niuniu murmured in a milky voice.

Lian Jizu, already growing impatient, led the way out, and Lady Chiang followed soon after.

Lian Manman and Lian Zhizhi exchanged glances, both feeling somewhat surprised.

"Uncle Jizu’s face looked pretty scary," Lian Manman whispered to Lian Zhizhi.

"Indeed," Lian Zhizhi nodded, "We’ve never seen him like this before, wonder what it could be about."

As they were puzzling over it, they heard Lian Jizu’s angry roar from outside.

"I’ll write the divorce letter right this instant and divorce you! You shameless woman!"

Lian Manman and Lian Zhizhi were both shocked. They quickly put on their shoes and got off their seats, then walked out of the West Wing Room.

At the entrance to the Upper Room, Lian Jizu forcefully pushed Lady Chiang away, storming off with rage. Lady Chiang, already crying her eyes out, tried to keep her voice low.

"What... what happened?" Lian Manman murmured, her gaze unintentionally sweeping toward the direction of the East Wing Room, where she saw the doorway curtain flutter and a glimpse of Zhao Xiue’s silhouette.

"Zhao Xiue, Zhao Xiue, come out. Let’s clear things up," Lady Chiang called out, running to the entrance of the East Wing Room after seeing Lian Jizu walk away and shouting inside.
