Chapter 746: Chapter 382: Passing the Message_1

At midnight, I’m begging for pink.

*****......****

(Friendly reminder: There is a short section coming up that is not recommended for reading while eating. O(∩_∩)O A little bit of Ruoyan’s wicked sense of humor.)

Xiao Qi pinched his nose and called out, his eyes scanning around only to find that Liulang, who had been in the crowd, had slipped away at some point. Xiao Qi hastily scurried to Lian Manman’s side.

Lady Zhou and a few others approached closer, and the stench became even more pronounced. Zhao Xiue dodged to the side, while Lian Manman, with Xiao Qi in tow, took refuge behind Zhao Xiue, also staying further away.

Lady Zhou looked a complete mess, with disheveled hair and two scratches on her face. Her clothes were in disarray as well, but the worst were her feet. Her dark blue shoes and the hem of her pants were smeared with several patches of Liulang’s excrement.

Lian Xiuxiu and Lady Gu were not spared either; the ground was already somewhat slippery from the water poured over the cucumber bed two days before. When they had fallen, they ended up in a mess, with excrement staining the front of their clothes, the hems of their pants, and the tips of their shoes.

Liulang could eat, and he could defecate just as well. His one bout of excrement was equivalent to two of another’s. Moreover, this was his waste from a few days ago, which had now fermented. The stench of fermented excrement was incomparable and could knock a person over even when facing the wind.

Lady Zhou, Lian Xiuxiu, and Lady Gu had all vomited, their faces as wrinkled as frostbitten eggplants.

Lian Shouren, Lian Shouyi, and Lian Jizu, supporting these women, wished they could grow additional hands to cover their noses and mouths. But in reality, they only had two hands each. Lady Zhou, Lian Xiuxiu, and Lady Gu, barely able to walk on their own and depending on the three men, forced them to use both hands to support the women, turning their faces aside in great discomfort.

"Look at what you’ve done, what have you turned yourself into?" Old Master Lian said as he came up to them, feeling sorry for the disheveled state of Lady Zhou and Lian Xiuxiu. "Hurry up, help them inside."

As he spoke, Old Master Lian glanced at the vegetable garden that had been mostly ruined, his heart aching for his labor of love that had now been spoiled. Yet, he made no strong attempt to stop Lady Zhou.

Having lived with her for more than half a lifetime, Old Master knew Lady Zhou’s temperament well. Lady Zhou was competitive and strong-willed; just a bit of dissatisfaction and she couldn’t let it go. Today’s predicament was something that Lady Zhou had never experienced before. She had stifled anger in her heart, and if it couldn’t find release, she might end up falling ill.

It was necessary to let Lady Zhou vent her anger. But since both Lian Shouxin’s and Lian Shouli’s families refused to play the role of her scapegoat, and with Lady Zhou taking out her anger on the vegetables, Old Master neither dared nor had the heart to forcefully stop her.

With a sigh, Old Master led the way to the house. Once most of the people had left, Lian Manman lingered and then followed them back.

"Throw it all away, far away." Passing by the outer room, a shrill scream came from Lady Gu in the west room. She had changed out of her soiled clothes and shoes and was intent on discarding them.

The East Room was very quiet; neither Lady Zhou nor Lian Xiuxiu made any noise.

Lian Manman quickly went back to the West Wing Room with Xiao Qi and Lian Yeye. Upon entering, they recounted the whole incident to Lian Shouxin and Lady Zhang.

"I knew it was that madwoman, I just knew it." Lady Zhang said, "She’s venting with objects, worried that if she leaves, we, along with Third Uncle’s Family, will suffer because of those garden vegetables."

"We don’t care for that." Xiao Qi said.

"Exactly, we have our own vegetables to eat, and we can’t even finish them all. Not to mention now, even at the beginning of spring, when we didn’t have any chives, your grandfather told us to go cut some from the backyard, did we go?" Lady Zhang said, "Her temperament... we better pack up our things and move into the shop sooner rather than later, otherwise, who knows what trouble she’ll stir up next."

The family began to pack their things.

As Lian Manman went out to dispose of the trash, she looked towards the Upper Room. Both the East and West Rooms were quiet; Lady Zhou hadn’t caused any further trouble, seemingly frightened by what had been said earlier.

Just as Lian Manman was about to return, she saw Lady Chiang coming out of the Upper Room.

Lian Manman smiled at Lady Chiang, and Lady Chiang nodded back with a smile before turning to go back inside.

A thought crossed Lian Manman’s mind.

"Big sister," Lian Manman called out to Lady Chiang, gesturing for her to come over.

Lady Chiang hesitated but nevertheless approached. During her time living in the old house, she had never had a cross word with Lian Manman’s family. Later on, when Lady Chiang would go to Lian’s to help out in private, Lady Zhang treated Lady Chiang and Niuniu very well.
