Reborn as a Mechanist with a God-Tier System-Chapter 259: The Tale of a Poor Man [1]
16th August, Year 714 A.G.
Western Biome, Canyon Hub.
It was a regular Sunday morning in the city of the Freegrid Collective, and the city was bustling with activities as people went on with their different lives.
A middle-aged man stood by the side of the road with a calm look on his face, holding a briefcase on his left hand while waiting for a cab as he occasionally looked at the hologram from his smart wrist watch to confirm the time.
[07:11am]
David spotted the middle-aged man, and immediately he adjusted his clothes and put on his best smile as he approached.
Before the middle-aged man could react, David arrived right in front of him and asked with a smile. "Sir, have you ever heard of Cabin D World?"
The man was surprised at first as he was caught off-guard, but then he frowned as he looked at the young man, conveying to him with his eyes ’can’t you see that I’m late for work?’
David saw the look in his eyes and understood it but he didn’t budge as with a smile, he continued. "Good morning sir".
He said in a passionate voice. "Cabin D World is a big international company that has roots across all the cities of the world".
The man’s frown deepened, but David’s smile only grew wider.
"The best scientists, doctors, surgeons, and researchers in the world work for our company".
"Together, they’ve created some of the most potent drugs that the world has ever seen. They do this not for the money but as charity, we’ve made it a mandate to spread our miraculous drugs to as much people as possible who need it".
"Afterall, in this dark and hopeless era, a bit of charity is needed to keep on hoping for a better future".
By now, the middle-aged man already realized that no matter what he did, this young man was not going to let him be.
He scowled but holding back his frustration like the civilized and mature man that he was, he asked. "What kind of drugs?"
David’s smile immediately blossomed. "We have drugs to cure any sickness and condition that you can think of in the world".
He gesticulated in a passionate manner. "Are you suffering from heart failure? Worry not, we have the right drugs for you".
"Are you suffering from kidney disease? You’re saved, we have the best detox products in the world. Are you suffering from rheumatism and arthritis? We have the right drugs just for you".
"Is your wife complaining about your performance in the bedroom?" He winked and chuckled. "Worry not, Cabin D World’s got you".
"We even have drugs that can cure the blind and make the deaf hear".
"..." The middle-aged man was speechless.
Seeing his expression, David chuckled. "We in Cabin D World never lie".
"As you can see or you’ve likely read in the news, our ozone layer keeps on dying every day and every year. Even ADE is not enough to truly save our planet".
"Every city in the world is thick with dust, smoke, and radiation," David shook his head sadly. "All of these are diseases and they’re killing us!"
"Even the ADE that enables us to survive poisons us. In this world, we’re all dying, it’s just that people are in different stages of death".
"And this is why Cabin D World is here for us".
He looked at the middle-aged seriously. "Sir, you may look ok now, but actually you’re not. Every single person in the world is suffering from a sickness, you just don’t know until the day it breaks you down and if you’re unlucky, you die". He said solemnly.
"This is why we at Cabin D World made it a life mission to help people, to create drugs that will help the sick, the weak, and reduce the mortality rate around the cities of the world".
Hearing this young man speak about the problems of the world in such an eloquent manner, this middle-aged man could not help but think that he was right.
This acceptance also made him think of the young man’s other words. ’Am I really sick?’ The thought made him shudder in fear.
"Um, I’m not actually sick, but..."
"That’s because you can’t tell yet!" David quickly interjected. "This is why it’s important that you get a detox medicine from us before it escalates and you die".
The middle-aged man gritted his teeth. "Are your drugs really effective?"
"Yes, of course!" David nodded vigorously. "We’re the best!"
The middle-aged man pursed his lips as countless thoughts went through his head, then he sighed and said. "I may not be sick, but my daughter has been suffering from ADE cancer for a while, do you guys have drugs for this too?" He sounded skeptical.
Instead of answering, David resolutely dipped his hand into his bag and brought out a tiny white bottle. "Here is it," he said seriously. "GK-300, here’s a potent drug that can cure any form of ADE cancer!"
"It’s NHO-approved".
The middle-aged man’s eyes widened. "Really?"
"Of course!" David nodded.
The middle-aged man’s lips quivered. "H-how much is it?"
"13 Neo Credits".
"Neo Credits?!!" The middle-aged man exclaimed in shock. "I don’t even make that much in an entire month!"
David nodded seriously. "But sir, this is about your daughter’s health and wellbeing, are you willing to see her die because of money?"
"ADE cancer is not a mundane sickness that you can afford to take trivially, this may be your last chance to save her life".
This middle-aged man’s eyelids twitched in pain and guilt, then he took a deep breath and took the bottle, looking at it and carefully scrutinizing it. He didn’t find any problems with it.
He gritted his teeth. "Does this really work?"
"Definitely sir!"
The middle-aged man nodded resolutely then he said. "Ok, I’ll make the sacrifice, tell me your account details".
David smiled. "Sir, what of the detox medicine?"
"It’s fine," the middle-aged man hesitated. "M-my daughter’s life is more important. Besides, I’m even having to borrow money for this, I can’t afford the detox medicine right now".
"Maybe after I repay this debt and save some money, I’ll come find you".
"Ok sir".
A few seconds later.
BEEP!
[Credit Alert!]
Staring at his smartphone, David grinned. ’Yes!’
’That’s 13 PV now,’ his eyes gleamed. ’I need just 821 more PV and I’ll bag my first big monthly bonus!’
