Chapter 680: May the Holy Light Bless You ♂

Early morning. Yaeger got out of bed and made a point of visiting the guest room to enjoy the pitiful wails of Vera 1 and 3, a little spiritual cultivation, as she called it.

She then joined the four little cuties for a delicious breakfast. Watching them eat so elegantly filled Yaeger with genuine comfort. The scene reminded her of watching her own daughters gradually grow up. After all, when they were starving before, these little ones had acted more like wild beasts than civilized girls.

After happily finishing breakfast, Yaeger checked in on Baiding Island’s condition together with Little Blue. The site was still under construction. It didn’t look like they were building a dueling platform, but rather a large plaza.

No ships or suspicious individuals were spotted nearby.

“Keep monitoring the area for me. Also, stay on top of any changes happening on Aqua Blue Star,” Yaeger instructed.

“Got it! I’ll do my best!” Little Blue responded with a cheerful smile. Her gaze, however, flicked discreetly toward Vera 2, Vera 17, and Vera 18. The three girls instantly felt a chill run down their spines and began trembling all over.

Yaeger returned to her room, lay down slowly on the large bed, and closed her eyes to log into the game. The next sixteen hours would be spent inside the virtual world.

With a flash of white light, Yaeger appeared in the guest room of the village chief’s home. As she opened the door, she caught sight of Angelica entering from outside.

“Good morning, Princess,” Angelica greeted warmly as she set down two buckets of water.

“Morning,” Yaeger replied. She walked over and lifted one of the buckets to help.

Angelica tried to say it wasn’t necessary, but Yaeger had already turned toward the kitchen. Quickly grabbing the other bucket, Angelica hurried to catch up, a sweet warmth rising in her chest.

As she watched the water flow from the bucket into the cistern, Yaeger fell into deep thought. ‘Magic and magitech in this world are quite advanced, yet so little of it is used to improve daily life. There is definitely room for plenty of upgrades.’

This would be another profitable opportunity. The corners of her lips curled slightly at the thought.

Once the water tank was full, Angelica started preparing breakfast. Fifteen minutes later. Yaeger and Angelica sat down to enjoy their second breakfast of the day.

“Anything unusual happening in the village?” Yaeger asked after taking a sip of vegetable soup.

“Nothing out of the ordinary… Wait, Princess, I did hear some villagers mention that a group of outsiders was loitering near the village gate late at night. And just now when I went out, I saw a few more of them still there. It felt… off,” Angelica said with concern.

“Is that so? Don’t worry about them. If they cause trouble, feel free to beat them to death,” Yaeger replied casually.

She had already anticipated that players would come here eventually. Unlike natives, players didn’t need to worry about injuries or illness. Things like plague posed no obstacle to them.

“Beat them to death?” Angelica exclaimed in surprise.

“Yes. No need to hold back,” Yaeger replied with a relaxed smile.

“Ahaha…” Angelica gave a slightly awkward laugh.

Aoma Village wasn’t known for being a fierce or aggressive place. Its people only snapped when pushed to the brink. If the plague had struck another region, Angelica would’ve likely been tied to a stake and burned to vent people’s frustrations.

“I’ll be heading out later. I might not come back tonight, so don’t bother making dinner for me,” Yaeger said, wiping her lips with a napkin.

“Okay,” Angelica nodded without asking where she was going. ‘Princess is always so busy… If only I could help her more.’ Frustrated by her own lack of strength, Angelica made a silent vow to grow stronger as quickly as possible.

After finishing breakfast, Yaeger put on her mask and left the village chief’s home. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

At the village entrance, a dozen or so players squatted idly. They clearly wanted to go in and find someone, but the two guards standing like statues at the gate gave them no chance.

‘Are these outsiders stupid or something?’ The young soldier rolled his eyes. According to the night shift guards, there had been dozens of these outsiders camped outside the village all night.

Spending the night just outside a plague-stricken village? Pure madness.

‘The way they keep eyeing the place is making my skin crawl,’ the young soldier muttered internally, frowning.

From a distance, Yaeger cast a glance their way before withdrawing her gaze. With a light tap of her toes, she vanished in an instant.

Aureole Town. It was a small town, not much larger than Aoma Village. Stone walls encircled its perimeter, and a number of tense-faced guards stood watch at the main gate. It seemed that news of the plague at the docks had already reached here.

“Why won’t you let us in?” A player standing outside the gate protested in frustration. Behind him stood ten other players, clearly part of the same group.

“There’s an outbreak nearby. We’ve been ordered from above to deny entry to all outsiders. Now move along!” The guard captain waved his hand and barked the command with a stern expression.

He had received orders that very morning: Aureole Town was to strictly control entry, with no exceptions for non-residents.

“Your NPCs have a plague. What’s that got to do with us?” A Holy Knight player clenched his fists and spoke with growing irritation.

“Yeah, exactly!”

“I just saw someone go in a moment ago, and now you’re saying we can’t enter? That’s blatant discrimination!”

The other players joined in, clearly disgruntled. Why could these NPCs go in freely, while they, the players, were left outside? Was this kind of bias really fair?

“So frustrating! How are we even supposed to play this game anymore?!” One player was so angry he was trembling, nearly on the verge of tears.

“I said no entry, and I meant it! All of you, disperse!” The guard captain waved again, and the soldiers immediately stepped in, forcing the players back from the gate and barring them from approaching.

Elsewhere, without anyone noticing her arrival, Yaeger stood atop the town’s wall. Watching the commotion below, she smiled faintly, then moved in a blur, silently dropping down into the town.

The streets were nearly deserted, with many houses tightly shuttered.

‘Plagues are truly terrifying for ordinary people,’ Yaeger thought as she surveyed the quiet, almost desolate scene.

“Layna didn’t tell me where she lives. Finding her’s going to be a bit of a hassle.” While Aureole Town wasn’t much bigger than Aoma Village, finding one person without any leads was no small task. It would take time and effort.

Rather than rushing off, Yaeger entered a narrow, empty alleyway, leaned against the wall, and began to think. ‘With all the doors and windows shut tight, I can’t just go around knocking on every house.’

Glancing down at her outfit, she shook her head. ‘I look way too suspicious like this.’

“I should’ve asked for her exact address when I had the chance.” Yaeger muttered with a hint of frustration. But what was the use now? Things in this world were rarely that simple.

‘Wait… I almost forgot! Layna’s an alchemist. Even if she’s back home, she’d still be brewing potions.’ Yaeger was more than familiar with the distinct smell of her potions and workspace.

“Perfect. At least I have something to go on.” With that, she took off, darting across the rooftops like a wraith. It didn’t take long before she arrived outside a slightly dilapidated house. A familiar scent occasionally drifted out from within.

She knocked on the door and waited for a while. Soon, a familiar voice called out: “Coming!” A moment later, the door opened, revealing a face she knew well.
