Chapter 50: Ch 50: Second Change

"Minso...Park Minso, are you alright? Can you hear who I am? Hey, someone, get a potion..."

"T-There is no need. I am back...I just had a vision of the future. There is no need to waste a potion on me."

Thief told his companions as he pulled himself out of the vision and back into reality. The things he saw and heard were still fresh in his mind and it took him a little time to get himself back.

Queen’s worried face slowly relaxed once she realized that Thief was alright and back with them again.

Sigh

"Is that so? I have been so worried about you since you collapsed. Are you sure you are fine?"

Queen questioned as she checked his face, his eyes and even his complexion. She tried to see if she could help him but still maintained a distance from him.

"I am fine. The vision was...just too much."

"Hmm, would you like to share what you saw? Talking about it might help you feel better."

Monkey king offered and Thief almost took that offer before he paused. He had a feeling he should not tell anyone about this vision until he was sure whether it would come true or not.

After all, would someone like Mark Dawnson, who seemed to hate the system and these games, really side with it? Would he betray humanity for the sake of someone else?

’And who was that lady with him? I have never seen her in any of the visions before? Has...something changed? Or, did I manage to see something I had never seen before?’

Whatever the case was, the one factor that mattered here was Mark. What Thief needed to do was simple — he needed to find a way to talk to Mark about all this and see what he has to say about it.

__________

"Ah, this game is so boring. There was no fighting, no killing, just a simple maze. Will all the other games be this boring as well?"

The half-dragon representative asked as they looked at the game’s results. The system screen showed the humans slowly crossing the finish line.

Compared to the other games, there were a lot more survivors who managed to make it out alive.

"We do need to give these humans an easy time once-in-a-while. It won’t be good for us either if they all died and we are not able to harvest their energies. I think the puppet master made the right decision."

"Of course, an angel like you would think that. You are all cowards as well."

The half-dragon muttered, but the angel pretended she had not heard what the half-dragon had said to her.

"I am more curious about the lack of countdown for game 8. Are you going to give humans some time off? If so, then you will have to pay the penalty, puppet master."

The god asked, looking down at the human world. The lack of a counter made him curious and everyone else noticed it as well.

"Now that you say it...there is a lack of counter. When will game 8 start?"

Everyone looked curious but the puppet master had to speak. Everyone looked at the female puppet with a curious look in their eyes.

Finally, the puppet spoke up in her monotonous voice.

"Game 8 has already started. As per the system’s recommendation, the objective has been sent to the humans. Unlike before, this will be a long-term game. We will give the humans a counter for game 9."

"Game 8 has already begun? What does that even mean? Ah, now I am getting curious as well..."

The angel spoke, her smile hiding her sadistic glee she felt at the moment. Everyone else was confused as well, but the puppet did not explain anything.

Instead, she decided to leave and she walked down the hallway the system had told her to follow.

She entered a white room and when she opened it, it was filled with tinkers. But she ignored it all and went right to the middle of it.

"Your home is gone and you are stuck at the system’s mercy. But all is not lost yet. The system is not a tyrant but a saviour, and it would like to give you another chance to save your life. Shall you succeed and earn its recognition, your world will have a chance to be saved as well. Would you like to take this chance?"

The puppet asked the female bound in the middle of the room.

Angry eyes looked back at her before they widened. The puppet noticed this and immediately allowed the other to speak.

"How many lies are you going to tell me? The system kind? Ha-! It’s the reason our world died. I lost everyone...my family, my friends and even my lover...they’re all gone..."

The female looked sharply at the puppet in front of her, but she had no emotions.

"Do you want me to feel sorry for you? Does a horse feel sorry for the grass it eats? Or did your people feel sorry for the beasts you slay to fill your own stomach? The system is similar. For it, the rest of the world is food. The sooner you understand, the less it will hurt."

The puppet told the female but it was a hard pill to swallow.

"Anyway, let’s not think about it for much longer. I am here to give you an option about what you can do. You are at a stage where you are going to be swallowed by the system, but you have a choice to make — you can either go back out and allow the system to see your worth and why your world should be brought back...or you can perish here, without accomplishing a single thing. Decide what you want to do, right now."

The puppet asked and the female hanging in the middle of the room bit her lips.

She knew that there was only one outcome for her to follow.

"I...will take the system’s offer and participate in the game."

As much as the female wanted to die, she wanted a chance given to her people as well. And if doing as the system asked was the only way...then she will give in to it...just this one.

"It’s nice to see that you came back to your senses in time. Welcome back, Seraphina of Arcana. May your journey to bring back your homeland be a fruitful one.
