Chapter 85: Ch 85: Familiar Phantom

’What should I do? Should I... betray Andrew and everyone else? I... do not know what to do anymore.’

Angeline was worried about her future actions, but there was one thing she was certain of-they she could not keep hiding herself out here. In the end, she decided to head back inside the cabin.

Andrew watched her from the window and caught her staring into the distance. He could not see anyone outside the barrier, but he had a feeling Angeline was caught in something messy.

’I better keep an eye on her. I have a feeling she will do something foolish.’

The guilty look on Angeline’s face betrayed the confident smile she was showing Andrew. But she did not make a comment and waited for Clara to wake up.

After 15 more minutes of resting, Clara finally woke up and looked refreshed.

"That... felt good. Is it time for us to head back?... Angeline, is everything alright? You look... a little worried and pale..."

Clara asked Angeline and reached to touch her face. Angeline immediately pulled herself back with a flush on her face, and she gave Clara a startled expression.

"I-I am fine... I think. I was just a little lost in my thoughts. I-Is it time for us to head back? We should go."

She agreed, but Clara still gave her a worried look. But before she could ask what happened, she noticed Andrew’s expression telling her not to ask any questions.

So she swallowed her question and followed both Andrew and Angeline out.

Andrew had already pocketed the beacon for this place, and he was going to bring it back to their base.

They reached their base in no time and somehow found no monsters in sight. They were welcomed by the hungry people who looked at them with expectant eyes. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

"Everyone, we are back. And we brought you food."

Clara declared as she moved toward the makeshift kitchen and took out some food. She also gathered seeds to sow and used her abilities to make them grow.

While that was happening, everyone else settled down. Andrew joined Lilianna, Seraphina, and Emperor. But he kept an eye on Angeline as well, who had joined her group.

"Did something happen? You are almost glaring at Angeline. Is something worrying you?"

Lilianna was the one who asked this question first. She looked between him and Angeline a few times in a questioning manner.

Andrew was not surprised that she had caught his worries first, and he decided to answer her.

"Nothing has happened... yet. But make sure to keep an eye on Angeline. I have a feeling she will try to do something stupid soon."

Andrew did not go into details about his suspicions, but mainly because he was not sure about them. He was willing to wait and give Angeline a chance.

Besides, if worse came to pass, he had another beacon with him which they could use to protect themselves. For now, he would rather not harm fellow humans.

However, not everyone had the same priorities as him. The small group of refugees waited to see Angeline join them, and they offered her food.

Even the temp-leader ate the food with a sour expression on his face. He looked like he wanted to complain, but kept his mouth shut in the end.

As they ate the food, they noticed that Angeline looked worried, and they immediately asked her what was worrying her.

"Did something happen, Angeline? You look worried and distracted. Did that bastard do... something to you-?"

The rude player asked, and Angeline shook her head.

"I-It’s nothing like that. I just..."

She wondered if she should share what happened with her companions, but she hesitated. She did not want to get their hopes up about their ex-leader and then put them in danger.

But it also did not feel right to keep what their leader had told her to herself. She needed a second opinion...

So she shared her experience, and as expected, her party looked worried and divided.

"You mean... you met our leader? And he asked us to join him by bringing him a beacon? Then what are we waiting for? Let’s get that beacon to him as soon as possible... why are you all giving me this look?"

The rude pseudo-leader asked as he crossed his arms. Angeline wanted to say something, but she was beaten by someone else.

"I... don’t want to leave this place. Truthfully, I think the leader can look after himself, and once this game is over, we can go and meet him again. But for now, we need to prioritize our safety."

Someone from the group spoke up, and no one objected.

These words caused the pseudo-leader to feel angry, and he almost hit someone. But Angeline stopped him.

"Tsk, why are you stopping me, Angeline? Do you hear the shit he’s saying? How can he doubt our leader like this?"

The pseudo-leader asked, but Angeline took a patient breath and spoke up.

"I... actually agree with him, Shawn. These people have been nothing but kind to us all. We should not betray them like this. I am sure our leader would agree... hey-! Shawn, what are you doing? Come back-!"

Angeline called, but the angry man had already stormed off and opened the door.

"I will take a walk to clear my head. Do not come after me. I just need some alone time."

He told everyone before he slammed the door shut behind him. Angeline just looked worried, wondering what would happen next.

She almost wanted to go after him, but it did not feel right to her to do that.

"Ugh, that idiot-! We are safe for now. Why does he want to risk his life and put us all in danger? Our leader is not that kind of person to ask us to put our lives in danger like this. Use a little common sense at least."

Someone from the group spoke up, and Angeline agreed. Their leader was compassionate and caring. There was no way he would have asked her to risk her life.

And now... she might have made things worse for this group by telling them what she saw. She would have to keep an eye on Shawn to make sure he does not do anything stupid.
