Reborn as a Weak Earthling, I Became the Most Overpowered Mage Alive-Chapter 91: Ch : Aiming for the Soft hearted- Part 2
"Are you sure we are doing the right thing? A lot of people might lose their lives because of our decision..."
Lilianna asked as conflict still stirred in her heart. She was not sure if walking away had been the right decision.
But at the same time, she felt relieved that Seraphina had dragged her away from the conflict. She was not sure if she wanted to take responsibility for others’ lives either.
The situation was one where she felt like she had to make a decision, but she could not bring herself to make one. Clara seemed to be in a similar state.
"Do you want to go back and help? There is still some time. I might have made the decision for you, but you don’t have to follow through with it. You have your own free will."
Andrew pointed out, but Lilianna’s expression immediately shifted to an awkward one.
"That is not what I meant... I just..."
She had no need to say more. What she was feeling was something everyone in the group had been through. But unlike Clara and Lilianna, who were going through this for the first time, the others had already made peace with their past.
"Just think it through. Make sure you do something that won’t come back to haunt you later."
Andrew reminded her as he recalled his own past.
There had been too many decisions that he made which came back to haunt him. There were times he still thought back to and wondered if he could have done things better.
However, the past was the past, and even if Andrew wanted to, he could not change how things had turned out to be.
They all returned back to their base, and the beacon was reinstalled. Peace returned to their base and, slowly, things went back to normal.
It was around dinner time when Clara brought up the topic again, and she looked determined.
"I... have decided. I want to help that base out, but I don’t want to stay at that base. I feel like I would regret it if I do not at least do something to help. So I will try growing as much food as I can here and then deliver it to the other base once it’s time."
She sounded determined.
Clara had not said anything until now, and it was because she was busy thinking about how she should bring it up.
Seeing her courage gave Lilianna the courage to speak up as well.
"I... also feel like I have to help. I stayed quiet because I did not want to go against Seraphina’s wishes, but I... feel like I would regret it if I did not help and a lot more people died because of me." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
The pair’s words made the base go quiet. They knew that it was too much to ask for, but they still felt like they had to try.
At least for their own sanity’s sake, they had to make sure their voices were heard.
Sigh
"Alright, I get it. Don’t give me such a scared look. If you want to help those people out, then you are more than welcome to do that."
Seraphina agreed, and the female pair let out a relieved sigh.
"Then, should we head back and tell them the good news?"
Clara asked as she quickly stood up to leave. The guilt she had been feeling about leaving people to fend for themselves was slowly starting to ebb away, but not fully.
They headed out of the cabin and pulled the beacon once more. But as soon as they got out, there were loud explosions coming from the direction of Thief’s base.
"W-What’s happening? All this noise...? Have the monsters started attacking already? B-But he said that it would be in two days...?"
Lilianna questioned as they quickly ran to get to Thief’s base.
At this point, Andrew believed that something must have gone wrong... or maybe Thief just got the dates wrong. Both were possible outcomes.
"We can ask that later. Emperor and I will go on ahead. Seraphina, you accompany the girls and make sure they remain safe."
Andrew told her, and she nodded before she slowed down to match the pair’s speed.
Andrew believed in his group’s abilities, so he quickly reached the battleground and unleashed his attack.
His magic caused the monsters to perish as soon as they came into contact with it, and Emperor was not holding back either.
They quickly joined the ranks of people fighting against these monsters, but there were just too many monsters to fight against. Their numbers were not coming down, and Andrew took a quick look at the barrier capacity.
[Base Capacity exceeded]
[Base Capacity: 105/100]
’Tsk, we need to get people out of the base, or these monsters won’t stop attacking...’
"Those who are fighting, slowly start to move away from the base. It will be safer that way."
Queen had the same thought as them, and she quickly yelled. A single swipe of her sword froze the enemies, and the people around her looked worried but did as they were told.
[Base Capacity: 90/100]
As soon as that message came, the barrier was reinstalled, and everyone inside breathed a sigh of relief.
Andrew noticed Seraphina leading Clara and Lilianna inside, and they immediately started to help with the relief operations.
Once they were safe, Seraphina joined the fight outside against the monsters.
Their numbers were not decreasing, and more and more people were getting injured fighting.
At this rate, these monsters might end up eradicating everyone outside the barrier.
’We need to make the base capacity bigger somehow. We need more beacons...’
Andrew had one, but he was not going to hand it over to Thief. He was sure that he would never get it back if he gave it away.
So he needed to go around and potentially find another one as soon as he could.
’What a hassle...’
"Tsk, we need more beacons as soon as possible."
Andrew told Emperor, and he nodded.
"I know the location of a few nearby that are really hard to find. I will go and bring some back. Try to hold these monsters back until then."
Emperor quickly took off after he said those words, and Andrew was left to deal with the mess that was being left behind.
